Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Christelijke gerechtigheid wordt wel eens verwoord in drie grondhoudingen: zelfgave, bekering en gebed. Als wij iets geven moge er dan iets van ons hele mens-zijn in vervat zijn. Voortdurende bekering is noodzakelijk. Het betekent omkeren op onze wegen omdat ons duidelijk is geworden dat er iets niet goed zit. Het is altijd opnieuw trachten in Gods richting te gaan. Ons bidden is vooral ons hart voor God openen. Hem in ons werkzaam laten worden. Het is tijd maken voor Hem en luisteren naar wat Hij ons te zeggen heeft.
EERSTE LEZING 2 Kor. 9, 6-11
God houdt van een blijmoedige gever.
Broeders en zusters,
Bedenkt: wie karig zaait zal karig oogsten;
wie overvloedig zaait zal overvloedig oogsten.
Laat ieder wat hij in zijn hart besloten heeft
ten uitvoer brengen, zonder pijn en zonder dwang,
want God houdt van een blijmoedige gever.
En God heeft de macht u met alle gaven te overstelpen
zodat gij, altijd in alle opzichten van al het nodige voorzien,
nog ruimschoots overhoudt voor elk goed werk.
Zo staat er ook geschreven:
“Hij heeft overvloedig gegeven aan de armen,
zijn milddadigheid zal immer blijven”.
Hij die de zaaier zaad verschaft en voedsel om te eten
zal ook u zaaigoed verschaffen en het vermenigvuldigen
en de oogst van uw milddadigheid doen gedijen.
Zo wordt gij in ieder opzicht verrijkt
en kunt gij alle soort vrijgevigheid beoefenen.
En deze is op haar beurt, door onze bemiddeling
oorzaak van dankbetuiging aan God.
TUSSENZANG Ps. 112(111), 1-2, 3-4, 9
Gelukkig de man die ontzag heeft voor God.
Alleluia.
Gelukkig de man die ontzag heeft voor God,
die vreugde vindt in zijn geboden.
Zijn kroost zal machtig zijn in het land,
gezegend zal zijn het geslacht van de vrome.
Welvaart en rijkdom sieren zijn huis,
hij zal zijn gerechtigheid nooit verliezen.
Hij is voor de vromen een licht in de nacht,
weldadig, barmhartig, rechtvaardig.
Met mildheid deelt hij aan armen uit,
hij zal zijn gerechtigheid nooit verliezen,
zijn macht en zijn aanzien vermeerderen steeds.

Ik ben de weg, de waarheid en het leven, zegt de Heer ;

Uw Vader die in het verborgene ziet zal het u vergelden.
In die tijd zei Jezus tot zijn leerlingen:
“Denkt erom:
beoefent uw gerechtigheid niet voor het oog van de mensen,
om de aandacht te trekken;
anders hebt gij geen recht op loon
bij uw Vader die in de hemel is.
“Wanneer gij dus een aalmoes geeft,
bazuin het dan niet voor u uit
zoals de huichelaars doen in de synagoge en op straat,
opdat zij door de mensen geprezen worden.
Voorwaar, Ik zeg u:
Zij hebben hun loon al ontvangen.
“Als gij een aalmoes geeft
laat uw linkerhand dan niet weten wat uw rechter doet
opdat uw aalmoes in het verborgene blijve;
en uw Vader die in het verborgene ziet
zal het u vergelden.
Wanneer ge bidt,
gedraagt u dan niet als de schijnheiligen
die graag in de synagogen
en op de hoeken van de straten staan te bidden
om op te vallen bij de mensen.
Voorwaar, Ik zeg u:
Zij hebben hun loon al ontvangen!
Maar als gij bidt,
ga dan in uw binnenkamer,
sluit de deur achter u,
en bidt tot uw Vader, die in het verborgene is;
en uw Vader, die in het verborgene ziet, zal het u vergelden.
Wanneer gij vast,
zet dan geen somber gezicht zoals de schijnheiligen;
zij verstrakken hun gezicht
om de mensen te tonen dat zij aan het vasten zijn.
Voorwaar, Ik zeg u:
Zij hebben hun loon al ontvangen.
Maar als gij vast,
zalft dan uw hoofd en wast uw gezicht
om niet aan de mensen te laten zien dat gij vast,
maar vast voor uw Vader die in het verborgene is
en uw Vader die in het verborgene ziet, zal het u vergelden”

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis
206. Een verandering in levensstijl zou een gezonde druk kunnen uitoefenen op degenen die de politieke, economische en maatschappelijke macht hebben. Dat gebeurt, wanneer consumentenorganisaties bereiken dat door een boycot van bepaalde producten, ondernemingen worden aangezet hun gedrag te veranderen en hen dwingen de belasting van het milieu en hun productiemethoden te heroverwegen. Het is een feit dat wanneer door maatschappelijke druk de winsten van ondernemingen worden aangetast, deze zich gedwongen voelen hun productiewijze te veranderen. Dit herinnert ons aan de maatschappelijke verantwoordelijkheid van de consument. “Kopen is te allen tijde niet alleen een economische, maar ook een morele handeling”. Daarom daagt “het thema van de milieuvervuiling het gedrag van ieder van ons uit”.

Consideration
Christian righteousness is sometimes expressed in three basic attitudes: self-giving, conversion and prayer. When we give, may it contain something of our whole humanity. Continuous conversion is necessary. It means turning back on our ways because it has become clear to us that something is not right. It is always trying again to go in God’s direction. Our prayer is above all to open our hearts to God. Letting Him become active in us. It is making time for Him and listening to what He has to say to us.
FIRST READING 2 Corinthians 9, 6-11
God loves a cheerful giver.
From the Second Letter of the Apostle Paul to the Christians of Corinth
Brothers and sisters,
He who sows sparingly will reap sparingly;
He who sows plentifully will reap plentifully.
Let each one carry out what he has decided in his heart, without pain and without constraint,
for God loves a cheerful giver.
And God has the power to lavish you with all gifts, so that you, always provided with all that you need,
there will be plenty left over for every good work.
Thus it is also written:
“He has given abundantly to the poor,
his generosity shall never cease”.
He who gives the sower seed and food to eat
will also provide you with seed and multiply it
and cause the harvest of your generosity to prosper.
Thus will ye be enriched in every way
And ye may practise every kind of generosity.
And this, in turn, is a cause of thanksgiving to God, through us.

Do not practice your righteousness before the eyes of men,
in order to attract attention;
Otherwise you will have no right to a reward
with your Father who is in heaven.
“When therefore ye give alms,
do not trumpet it in front of yourselves
as the hypocrites do in the synagogue and in the street,
that they may be praised by men.
Verily, I say unto you:
They have already received their reward.
“When ye give alms
let not thy left hand know what thy right hand is doing
that thy alms may be kept in secret;
And your Father, who sees in secret
will repay you.
When you pray,
do not behave like the hypocrites who like to
stand in the synagogues
and on the corners of the streets to pray
in order to be noticed by men.
Verily, I say unto you:
They have already received their wages!
But when ye pray,
go into thy inner chamber,
close the door behind thee,
and pray to your Father, who is invisible;
And your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.
When ye fast,
turn not a gloomy face like the hypocrites;
They stiffen their faces
to show men that they are fasting.
Verily I say unto you:
They have already received their reward.
But when ye fast,
anoint thy head and wash thy face

206. A change in lifestyle could exert a healthy pressure on those who have political, economic and social power. This happens when consumer organisations achieve that by boycotting certain products, companies are induced to change their behaviour and force them to reconsider the burden on the environment and their production methods. It is a fact that when social pressure affects the profits of companies, they feel compelled to change their production methods. This reminds us of the social responsibility of consumers. “Buying is at all times not only an economic, but also a moral act”. Therefore, “the issue of environmental pollution challenges the behaviour of each and every one of us”.
