Uitnodiging
Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Wij voelen allen aan wat Paulus hier zegt. Wij weten niet eens hoe wij behoren te bidden. Wij zijn vaak dor; vinden geen woorden; vinden geen vreugde in het gebed. Alle grote meesters van de spiritualiteit beschrijven deze toestand. De zoekende mens komt uit op een punt waarop hij moedeloos en lusteloos is. Hij zou wel willen opgeven. De oplossing is dan de schreeuw naar God die men vruchteloos zoekt. Die schreeuw is juist een schreeuw van de heilige Geest die ons openbreekt. De antwoordpsalm tracht iets weer te geven van die roep.
EERSTE LEZING Rom. 8, 26-30
God bevordert in alles het heil van die Hem liefhebben.
Uit de brief van de heilige apostel Paulus aan de christenen van Rome
Broeders en zusters,
De Geest komt onze zwakheid te hulp.
Want wij weten niet eens hoe wij behoren te bidden,
maar de Geest zelf pleit voor ons
met onuitsprekelijke verzuchtingen.
En Hij die de harten doorgrondt
weet waar de Geest op zint,
want Hij pleit voor de heiligen naar Gods bedoeling.
Intussen weten wij
dat God in alles het heil bevordert van die Hem liefhebben,
van hen die volgens zijn raadsbesluit geroepen zijn.
Want die Hij te voren heeft gekend,
heeft Hij ook te voren bestemd
tot gelijkvormigheid met het beeld van zijn Zoon,
opdat Deze de eerstgeborene zou zijn onder vele broeders.
Die Hij heeft voorbestemd heeft Hij ook geroepen.
Die Hij riep heeft Hij gerechtvaardigd
en die Hij rechtvaardigde heeft Hij verheerlijkt.
TUSSENZANG Ps. 13(12), 4-5, 6
Heer mijn God, ik rekende op uw genade.
Ach, luister toch, verhoor mij, Heer mijn God!
Verdrijf de doodsslaap, maak mijn oog weer helder,
gun mijn bestrijder niet dat hij wint.
Mijn tegenstanders zouden juichen om mijn val
terwijl ik rekende op uw genade.
Heer, maak mij door uw bijstand blij van hart,
dan zal ik steeds uw weldaden bezingen.

“Spant u tot het uiterste in
om door de nauwe deur binnen te komen,
want, Ik zeg u, velen zullen proberen binnen te komen
maar zij zullen daar niet in slagen.
“Als eenmaal de huisvader is opgestaan en de deur gesloten heeft
en als gij dan buiten op de deur begint te kloppen
en begint te roepen : Heer, doe open!
zal Hij u antwoorden : Ik weet niet waar gij vandaan komt.
“Dan zult ge opwerpen :
In uw tegenwoordigheid hebben wij gegeten en gedronken,
en in onze straten hebt Gij onderricht gegeven.
“Maar weer zal zijn antwoord zijn :
Ik weet niet waar gij vandaan komt.
“Gaat weg van Mij, gij allen, bedrijvers van ongerechtigheid.
“Daar zal geween zijn en tandengeknars,
wanneer gij Abraham, Isaäk en Jakob en al de profeten
zult zien in het Rijk Gods,
terwijl ge zelf buitengeworpen zult zijn.
“Zij zullen komen uit het oosten en het westen,
uit het noorden en het zuiden,
en zij zullen aanzitten in het Koninkrijk Gods.

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis
100. Het Nieuwe Testament spreekt ons niet alleen van de aardse Jezus en zijn zo concrete en liefdevolle relatie met de wereld. Het laat ons dit ook zien als de Verrezene en Verheerlijkte, aanwezig in heel de schepping met zijn universele heerschappij: “Want in Hem heeft God willen wonen in heel zijn volheid, om door Hem het heelal met zich te verzoenen en vrede te stichten door het bloed aan het kruis vergoten, om alles in de hemelen en op de aarde te verzoenen, door Hem alleen” (Kol. 1, 19-20). Dit richt ons op het einde der tijden, wanneer de Zoon de Vader alles zal overhandigen, zodat “God alles in alles is” (1 Kor. 15, 28). Zo doen de schepselen van deze wereld zich aan ons niet meer voor als een puur natuurlijke werkelijkheid, omdat de Verrezene ze op mysterieuze wijze omgeeft en richt op een bestemming van volheid. Dezelfde bloemen op het veld en de vogels die Hij verwonderd aanschouwde met zijn menselijke ogen, zijn nu vol van zijn lichtende tegenwoordigheid.

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience this joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.

Consideration
We all feel what Paul is saying here. We do not even know how to pray. We are often barren; find no words; find no joy in prayer. All the great masters of spirituality describe this state. The seeking man comes to a point where he is discouraged and listless. He would like to give up. The solution is then the cry out to God that one is fruitlessly seeking. This cry is precisely a cry of the Holy Spirit that breaks us open. The antiphon attempts to convey something of this cry.
FIRST READING Rom 8:26-30
In everything God promotes the salvation of those who love Him.
From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of Rome
Brothers and Sisters,
The Spirit comes to help our weakness.
For we do not even know how to pray,
but the Spirit himself intercedes for us
with unspeakable sighs.
And he who searches the heart
knows what the Spirit is after,
for He intercedes for the saints according to God’s purpose.
Meanwhile we know
that God in all things promotes the salvation of those who love Him,
those who are called according to His counsel.
For those whom He has known beforehand,
He has also destined beforehand
to be conformed to the image of His Son,
that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

but they will not succeed.
“When once the father of the house has risen and shut the door
and when ye then begin to knock at the door outside
and begin to cry out : Lord, open up!
He will answer you: I do not know where you have come from.
“Then you will raise your voice:
In thy presence we have eaten and drunk,
and in our streets thou didst teach.

100. The New Testament speaks to us not only of the earthly Jesus and his so concrete and loving relationship with the world. It also shows us this as the Risen and Glorified One, present in all creation with his universal reign: “For in him God has willed to dwell in all his fullness, to reconcile the universe through him and to make peace through the blood shed on the cross, to reconcile everything in heaven and on earth through him alone” (Col 1:19-20). This points us to the end of time, when the Son will hand over everything to the Father, so that “God is all in all” (1 Cor. 15, 28). Thus, the creatures of this world no longer present themselves to us as a purely natural reality, because the Risen One mysteriously surrounds them and directs them towards a destination of fullness. The same flowers in the field and the birds that He gazed upon with human eyes are now full of His luminous presence.
