Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Op dit feest van Christus Koning
vieren we een Mens die Koning is van een visionair rijk.
Er gelden andere normen dan in een rijk van deze wereld.
Het is een rijk waar de eersten de laatsten zijn,
waar de grootste de dienaar is van allen,
waar de koning de voeten van de dienaren wast
en zich verplaatst op een ezel,
waar de kleinen zetelen op de tronen
waarvan de machtigen zijn verdreven.
Een koninkrijk waar de dood in al zijn vormen overwonnen is.
EERSTE LEZING Dan. 7, 13-14
Zijn heerschappij is een eeuwige heerschappij.
Uit de profeet Daniël
In die tijd nam Daniël het woord en zei:
“In mijn nachtelijk visioen zag ik met de wolken des hemels
iemand aankomen die op een mens geleek.
“Hij ging naar de Hoogbejaarde en werd voor hem geleid.
“Toen werd hem heerschappij gegeven,
luister en koninklijke macht;
alle volken, stammen en talen brachten hem hun hulde.
“Zijn heerschappij is een eeuwige heerschappij die nooit
vergaat,
zijn koninkrijk gaat nooit ten gronde.”

Aan Hem die ons liefheeft

In die tijd riep Pilatus Jezus bij zich en zei tot Hem:
“Zijt Gij de koning der joden?”
Jezus antwoordde hem:
“Zegt gij dit uit uzelf
of hebben anderen u over Mij gesproken?”
Pilatus gaf ten antwoord:
“Ben ik soms een jood?
“Uw eigen volk en de hogepriesters
hebben U aan mij overgeleverd.
“Wat hebt Gij gedaan?”
Jezus antwoordde:
“Mijn koningschap is niet van deze wereld.
“Zou mijn koningschap van deze wereld zijn
dan zouden mijn dienaars er wel voor gestreden hebben
dat Ik niet aan de joden werd uitgeleverd.
“Mijn koningschap is evenwel niet van hier.”
Pilatus hernam:
“Gij zijt dus toch koning?”
Jezus antwoordde:
“Ja, koning ben Ik.
“Hiertoe werd Ik geboren
en hiertoe ben Ik in de wereld gekomen
om getuigenis af te leggen van de waarheid.
“Al wie uit de waarheid is, luistert naar mijn stem.”

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis
125. Als wij proberen te denken aan wat de geëigende relaties van de mens met de wereld die het omgeeft, zijn, is het noodzakelijk een juiste opvatting over arbeid te hebben, omdat, als wij spreken over de relatie van de mens tot de dingen, zich de vraag stelt omtrent de zin en het doel van de invloed van de mens op de werkelijkheid. Wij hebben het niet alleen over het handwerk of het bewerken van de aarde, maar over iedere activiteit die een of andere verandering van het bestaande inhoudt, van het uitwerken van een maatschappelijke studie tot het project van een technologische ontwikkeling. Iedere vorm van arbeid veronderstelt een idee over de relatie die het menselijk wezen kan of moet aanknopen met wat anders is dan hij. De christelijke spiritualiteit heeft samen met de contemplatieve verwondering over de schepsels die wij in de heilige Franciscus van Assisi vinden, ook een rijk en gezond idee ontwikkeld over arbeid, zoals wij dat bijvoorbeeld ontmoeten in het leven van de zalige Charles de Foucauld en zijn leerlingen.

Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.

Opening words
On this feast of Christ the King
we celebrate a Man who is King of a visionary realm.
There are other standards than in a kingdom of this world.
It is a kingdom where the first are the last,
where the greatest is the servant of all,
where the king washes the feet of the servants
and moves around on a donkey,
where the little ones sit on thrones
From which the mighty are driven away.
A kingdom where death in all its forms is conquered.
FIRST READING Dan. 7, 13-14
His dominion is an everlasting dominion.
From the prophet Daniel
In those days Daniel took the floor and said:
“In my vision by night
I saw in the clouds of heaven someone coming who looked like a man.
“He went to the Most High and was led before him.
“Then he was given dominion,
splendour and royal power;
all nations, tribes and languages paid him homage.

“My kingship is not of this world.
“If my kingship were of this world,
my servants would have fought to keep me
that I had not been delivered to the Jews.
“But my kingship is not of this world.

On Care of the Common Home
125. When we try to think of the proper relations of man to the world which surrounds it, it is necessary to have a correct conception of labour, because when we speak of man’s relation to things, the question arises as to the meaning and purpose of man’s influence on reality. We are not only talking about manual work or the cultivation of the earth, but about any activity that involves some kind of transformation of the existing, from the elaboration of a social study to the project of a technological development. Every form of work presupposes an idea of the relationship which the human being can or must enter into with what is different from him. Christian spirituality, together with the contemplative wonderment about creatures that we find in St Francis of Assisi, has also developed a rich and healthy idea of work, as we find, for example, in the life of Blessed Charles de Foucauld and his disciples.
