Uitnodiging
Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

OPENINGSWOORD
Op deze vierde zondag van de advent,
rond een krans vol licht,
zijn we getuige van een hartelijke ontmoeting
tussen Maria en Elisabet.
Vol van de Heilige Geest
bezingen ze de liefde die God hun heeft toegezegd.
Als we eucharistie vieren,
treden we in hun voetspoor.
Immers waar mensen elkaar in liefde en vriendschap ontmoeten
en hun geloofsverhaal delen,
daar klinkt een dank- en vreugdelied voor God.
EERSTE LEZING Mich. 5, 1-4a
Uit u zal iemand komen die over Israël gaat heersen.
Uit de Profeet Micha
Dit zegt de Heer :
“Gij, Betlehem Efrata,
het kleinste onder Juda’s geslachten,
uit u zal geboren worden
hij die over Israël moet heersen.
“In het verre verleden ligt zijn oorsprong,
in lang vervlogen dagen.”
Daarom zal de Heer hen
niet langer overlaten aan hun lot
dan tot de tijd
dat de moeder haar kind gebaard heeft.
Dan komt de rest van zijn broeders weer samen
met de zonen van Israël.
Dan neemt hij de macht in handen
en zal hen hoeden
door de kracht van de Heer,
door de verheven naam van de Heer zijn God.
In veiligheid zullen zij wonen,
omdat zijn macht zal reiken
tot aan de uiteinden der aarde.
Hij zal een man van vrede zijn.
Antwoordpsalm Ps. 80(79), 2ac en 3b, 15-16, 18-19
Keervers
God, richt ons weer op,
en wij zullen gered zijn.
Die Jozef leidt als een kudde,
die troont op de cherubs, verschijn met luister.
Werp uw macht in de strijd,
kom om ons bij te staan.
God van de Heerscharen, keer toch terug,
zie neer uit de hemel en let op uw wijngaard.
Bescherm wat uw eigen hand heeft geplant,
het stekje dat Gij hebt gekweekt.
Laat uw hand op uw gunsteling rusten,
op het kind dat Gij grootgebracht hebt.
Nooit meer zullen wij U verlaten;
bewaart Gij ons leven, dan prijzen wij U.
TWEEDE LEZING HeBr. 10, 5-10
Ik ben gekomen om uw wil te doen.
Uit de brief aan de Hebreeën
Broeders en zusters,
Als Christus in de wereld komt, zegt hij tot de Vader:
“Slachtoffers en gaven hebt Gij niet gewild,
maar Gij hebt Mij een lichaam bereid.
“Brandoffers en zoenoffers konden U niet behagen.
“Toen zei Ik:
Hier ben Ik.
“Zoals er in de boekrol over Mij geschreven staat:
Ik ben gekomen, God, om uw wil te doen.”
Eerst zegt Hij dus:
Slachtoffers en gaven
brandoffers en zoenoffers hebt Gij niet gewild,
die konden U niet behagen
hoewel de wet voorschrijft dat ze gebracht moeten worden.
En dan zegt Hij:
Hier ben Ik,
Ik ben gekomen om uw wil te doen.
Hij schaft dus het eerste af om het tweede te laten gelden.
Door die wil zijn wij geheiligd, eens en voor altijd,
door het offer van het lichaam van Jezus Christus.

EVANGELIE Lc. 1, 39-45
Waaraan heb ik het te danken dat de moeder van mijn Heer naar mij toekomt?
Uit het heilig evangelie van onze Heer Jezus Christus volgens
Lucas
In die dagen reisde Maria met spoed naar het bergland,
naar een stad in Juda.
Zij ging het huis van Zacharias binnen en groette Elisabet.
Zodra Elisabet de groet van Maria hoorde,
sprong het kind op in haar schoot.
Elisabet werd vervuld met de heilige Geest
en riep met luide stem:
“Gij zijt gezegend onder de vrouwen
en gezegend is de vrucht van uw schoot.
“Waaraan heb ik het te danken
dat de moeder van mijn Heer naar mij toekomt?
“Zie, zodra de klank van uw groet mijn oor bereikte,
sprong het kind van vreugde op in mijn schoot.
“Zalig zij die geloofd heeft dat tot vervulling zal komen
wat haar vanwege de Heer gezegd is.”

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis
153.De kwaliteit van leven in de steden houdt grotendeels verband met het vervoer, dat vaak een oorzaak is van groot leed voor de inwoners. In de stad rijden veel auto’s rond die door een of twee personen worden gebruikt, waardoor het verkeer druk wordt, het niveau van de vervuiling omhooggaat, enorme hoeveelheden niet hernieuwbare energie worden verbruikt en het bouwen van meer wegen en parkeergarages, die het stedelijk netwerk schaden, noodzakelijk wordt. Veel deskundigen zijn het eens over de noodzaak voorrang te geven aan het openbaar vervoer. Sommige noodzakelijke maatregelen zullen echter met moeite vreedzaam door de maatschappij worden geaccepteerd zonder een wezenlijke verbetering van dat vervoer, die ten gevolge van de overbevolking in veel steden een onwaardige behandeling van de mensen, ongemak of schaarse frequentie van de voorzieningen en onzekerheid met zich meebrengt.

OPENING WORD
On this fourth Sunday of Advent,
around a garland of light,
we witness a heartfelt encounter
between Mary and Elisabeth.
Full of the Holy Spirit
they sing of the love that God has promised them.
When we celebrate the Eucharist,
we follow in their footsteps.
After all, where people meet in love and friendship
and share their story of faith,
there sounds a song of thanks and joy for God.
FIRST READING Mich. 5, 1-4a
Out of you will come one who will rule over Israel.
From the prophet Micah
This is what the Lord says:
“Thou, Bethlehem Efrata,
the least of all the families of Judah,
of thee shall be born
He who is to reign over Israel.
“In the far distant past is his origin,
in days long gone.”
Therefore the Lord will
leave them no longer to their fate
until the time
when the mother has given birth to her child.
Then the rest of his brethren will come together again
with the sons of Israel.
Then he will take the power in his hands
and shall guard them
by the power of the Lord,
through the exalted name of the Lord his God.
In safety they shall dwell,
for his power shall reach
to the ends of the earth.

From the letter to the Hebrews
Brothers and sisters,
When Christ comes into the world, he says to the Father:
“Sacrifices and gifts Thou hast not desired,
but Thou hast prepared Me a body.
“Burnt offerings and peace offerings could not please Thee.
“Then I said:
Here am I.
“As it is written in the scroll concerning Me:
I am come, O God, to do thy will.”
So first He says:
Sacrifices and gifts
burnt offerings and peace offerings, which thou didst not desire,
which could not please thee
though the law prescribed that they should be brought.
And then He says:
Here am I,
I have come to do thy will.
So He abolishes the first in order to make the second valid.
By this will we are sanctified, once and for all,
through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ.

Behold the handmaid of the Lord,

In those days Mary travelled in haste to the mountain country,

She entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.
As soon as Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary,
the child leapt up into her womb.
Elisabet was filled with the Holy Spirit
and cried out with a loud voice:
“Blessed art thou among women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
“To what do I owe it
that the mother of my Lord comes to me?
“Behold, as soon as the sound of thy greeting reached my ear,
the child sprang up in my womb with joy.
“Blessed is she who has believed that it will come to pass
what is said to her from the Lord.”

153.The quality of life in cities is largely linked to transport, which is often a cause of great suffering for the inhabitants. There are many cars in the city that are used by one or two people, which makes the traffic heavy, raises the level of pollution, consumes huge amounts of non-renewable energy and makes it necessary to build more roads and car parks that damage the urban network. Many experts agree on the need to prioritise public transport. However, some necessary measures will hardly be accepted peacefully by society without a substantial improvement of that transport, which, due to overcrowding in many cities, is an undignified treatment of people, inconvenience or scarcity of services and uncertainty.
