Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Openingswoord
Op deze vierde paaszondag
wordt Jezus verbeeld als de ‘Goede Herder’.
Als christenen mogen wij ons door Hem laten leiden.
Hij wil voor ons de wegwijzer zijn in het leven.
Wat een geschenk is dat niet:
Een goede herder die zich over ons ontfermt
en die ons bijstaat om een zinvolle levensweg uit te bouwen.
In dankbaarheid zijn we hier samen
om te luisteren naar zijn stem.
Moge die stem ons allen raken.
Dat er onder ons ook mensen opstaan
die bereid zijn zich met hun leven te engageren
als priester, diaken of religieus,
als parochieassistent of pastoraal werker.
De Goede Herder verzamelt ons en zoekt wie zijn afgedwaald.
Laten we ons bij het begin van deze viering vinden
door zijn liefde en barmhartigheid.
EERSTE LEZING Hand. 13, 14.43-52
Voortaan richten wij ons tot de heidenen.
In die dagen reisden Paulus en Barnabas
langs Perge naar Antiochië in Pisidië,
waar zij op de sabbat de synagoge binnengingen.
Na afloop van de dienst in de synagoge
liepen vele Joden en godvrezende proselieten
met Paulus en Barnabas mee;
dezen spraken hen toe en drongen er bij hen op aan
in de genade van God te volharden.
De volgende sabbat kwam bijna de hele stad bijeen
om naar het woord van God te luisteren.
Bij het zien van die grote menigte
werden de Joden zeer afgunstig
en beantwoordden de uiteenzetting van Paulus
met beschimpingen.
Toen verklaarden Paulus en Barnabas in alle vrijmoedigheid:
“Tot u moest wel het eerst het woord van God gesproken worden,
maar omdat gij het afwijst
en uzelf het eeuwige leven niet waardig keurt,
daarom richten wij ons voortaan tot de heidenen.
Want aldus luidt de opdracht van de Heer tot ons:
Ik heb u bestemd als een licht voor de heidenen,
opdat gij redding zoudt brengen
tot aan het uiteinde van de aarde.”
Toen de heidenen dit hoorden waren zij verheugd en verheerlijkten het woord van God,
en allen die tot het eeuwig leven waren voorbestemd
namen het geloof aan.
Het woord des Heren verbreidde zich door heel die streek,
maar de Joden hitsten de godvrezende vrouwen op
die uit de toonaangevende kringen kwamen en ook de voornaamste burgers uit de stad;
zij veroorzaakten een vervolging tegen Paulus en Barnabas
en verjoegen hen uit hun gebied.
Dezen schudden het stof van hun voeten ten teken dat zij met hen gebroken hadden
en gingen naar Ikonium.
De leerlingen waren echter vervuld van vreugde
en van de heilige Geest.

Wij zijn zijn kudde en zijn volk.
Juicht voor de Heer, alle landen,
dient met blijdschap de Heer,
treedt voor zijn aanschijn met jubel.
Waarlijk, de Heer is God,

wij zijn kudde, zijn volk.
Hij is ons goed gezind,
eindeloos is zijn erbarmen,
zijn trouw van geslacht op geslacht.
TWEEDE LEZING Apok. 7, 9.14b-17
Het Lam zal hen weiden en voeren naar de waterbronnen van het leven.
Ik, Johannes, zag een geweldige menigte, die niemand tellen kon,
uit alle rassen en stammen en volken en talen.
Zij stonden voor de troon en voor het Lam,
gekleed in witte gewaden en met palmtakken in de hand.
Toen zei een van de oudsten tot mij:
“Dat zijn degenen die komen uit de grote verdrukking,
die hun gewaden hebben wit gewassen
in het bloed van het Lam.
Daarom staan zij voor de troon van God
en dienen Hem dag en nacht in zijn tempel,
en Hij die op de troon is gezeten
zal zijn tent over hen uitspreiden.
Zij zullen nooit meer honger of dorst lijden,
geen zonnesteek of woestijngloed zal hen treffen,
want het Lam in het midden van de troon
zal hen weiden en voeren naar de waterbronnen van het leven
en God zal alle tranen van hun ogen afwissen.”

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis
45.Op sommige plaatsen in de stad en op het platteland heeft de privatisering van de ruimte de toegang van de burgers tot gebieden van een bijzondere schoonheid moeilijk gemaakt; elders heeft men “ecologische” woonbuurten geschapen die alleen maar ter beschikking van weinigen staan en waar men ervoor zorgt te vermijden dat anderen binnenkomen om een kunstmatige rust te verstoren. Vaak vindt men een mooie stad, vol goed verzorgde groene ruimtes in enkele “veilige” gebieden, maar zo is het niet in minder zichtbare zones, waar de gedumpten van de maatschappij leven.

Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience this joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.
Available every morning from 7 am
Opening words
On this fourth Sunday of Easter
Jesus is portrayed as the “Good Shepherd”.
As Christians we may let ourselves be led by Him.
He wants to be our guide in life.
What a gift that is:
A good shepherd who takes care of us
and who helps us to build a meaningful way of life.
In gratitude we are here together
to listen to his voice.
May that voice touch us all.
May there also arise among us people
who are prepared to commit themselves with their lives
as a priest, deacon or religious,
as a parish assistant or pastoral worker.
The Good Shepherd gathers us and seeks those who have gone astray.
Let us find ourselves at the beginning of this celebration
by his love and mercy.
FIRST READING Act 13, 14.43-52
Henceforth we address ourselves to the Gentiles.
From the Acts of the Apostles
In those days Paul and Barnabas travelled
Perge to Antioch in Pisidia,
Where they entered the synagogue on the Sabbath.
After the service in the synagogue
Many Jews and God-fearing proselytes
walked with Paul and Barnabas;
these spoke to them and urged them
to persevere in the grace of God.
The next Sabbath, almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.
At the sight of this great crowd
the Jews became very jealous
and responded to
Paul’s account with taunts.
Then Paul and Barnabas boldly declared:
“To you the word of God had to be spoken first,
but because you reject it
and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life,
we now turn to the Gentiles.
For thus the command of the Lord is given to us:
I have appointed thee to be a light unto the Gentiles,
that you may bring salvation
to the ends of the earth.”
When the Gentiles heard this they rejoiced and glorified the word of God,
and all who were destined to eternal life
accepted the faith.
The word of the Lord spread through all that region,
but the Jews incited the God-fearing women, who came from the leading circles and also the leading citizens of the city;
they brought about a persecution against Paul and Barnabas
and drove them out of their territory.
The latter shook off the dust from their feet as a sign that they had broken with them
and went to Ikonium.
But the disciples were filled with joy
and of the Holy Spirit.

Refrain
We are his flock and his people.
Rejoice for the Lord, all nations,
serve the Lord with gladness,
stand before him with gladness.
Verily, the Lord is God,
He is the Creator and Master,

SECOND READING Apok. 7, 9.14b-17
The Lamb will lead them to the springs of life.
From the Revelation of the holy apostle John
I, John, saw a great multitude, which no one could count,
from every race and tribe and people and language.
They stood before the throne and before the Lamb
clothed in white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.
Then one of the elders said to me:
“These are the ones who are coming out of the great tribulation,
who have washed their robes white
in the blood of the Lamb.
Therefore they stand before the throne of God
and serve Him day and night in His temple,
and He who sits on the throne
will spread out His tent over them.
They will never again hunger or thirst,
no sunstroke or desert flood shall afflict them,
for the Lamb sitting in the midst of the throne
shall lead them unto the fountains of life
and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.”

45. In some urban and rural places, the privatisation of space has made it difficult for citizens to access areas of particular beauty; elsewhere, “ecological” housing estates have been created which are only available to the few and where care is taken to avoid others entering to disturb an artificial peace. One often finds a beautiful city, full of well-tended green spaces in a few “safe” areas, but it is not so in less visible zones, where the dumped people of society live.
