Uitnodiging
Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Paulus neemt afscheid van zijn leerlingen in Efeze. Hij vertrouwt de geloofsleerlingen aan God zelf toe. Wat Paulus is begonnen zal hij voltooien. Anderen wachten op de Blijde Boodschap. De Heer heeft ze in handen van mensen gegeven die Hij heeft geroepen Hem te volgen. Waar zij ook terecht komen, de Geest van God begeleidt en bezielt hen. Zij zullen altijd wel harten vinden die openstaan voor het Evangelie.
EERSTE LEZING Hand. 28, 16-20.30-31
Paulus bleef te Rome en predikte er het Rijk Gods.
Uit de handelingen van de Apostelen
Na aankomst in Rome kreeg Paulus verlof
op zichzelf te wonen met de soldaat die hem bewaakte.
Drie dagen later ontbood hij de voornaamste Joden bij zich.
Toen zij bijeengekomen waren, zei hij tot hen :
“Mannen broeders,
ofschoon ik niets gedaan heb tegen ons volk
of tegen de voorvaderlijke gebruiken,
ben ik vanuit Jeruzalem
als gevangene uitgeleverd aan de Romeinen.
“Dezen wilden mij na verhoor in vrijheid stellen
omdat ik niets had bedreven waarop de doodstraf stond.
“Maar omdat de Joden zich hiertegen verzetten
zag ik me gedwongen mij op de keizer te beroepen,
dit echter niet
als had ik enige klacht in te brengen tegen mijn volk.
“Dat is dus de reden
waarom ik verzocht u te mogen zien en u toe te spreken.
“Het is om de verwachting van Israël
dat ik deze ketenen draag.”
Volle twee jaar vertoefde Paulus daar in een eigen huurwoning
en ontving allen die bij hem kwamen.
Hij predikte het Rijk Gods
en gaf onderricht in de leer over de Heer Jezus Christus
in alle vrijmoedigheid,
zonder enige belemmering.
TUSSENZANG Ps. 11(10), 5, 6, 8
God is rechtvaardig, het recht is Hem lief,
gerechten zullen Hem zien.
De Heer in zijn heilige tempel,
de Heer, Hij troont in de hemel.
Zijn ogen zien op ons neer,
zijn blikken doorvorsen de mensen.
Goeden en slechten doorziet Hij,
Hij haat wie het onrecht bemint.
Want God is rechtvaardig, het recht is Hem lief,
gerechten zullen Hem zien.

Alleluia.
De Geest der waarheid zal Ik tot u zenden, zegt de Heer,
en Hij zal u tot de volle waarheid brengen.

Dit is de leerling die dit geschreven heeft, en zijn getuigenis is waar.
Uit het heilig evangelie van onze Heer Jezus Christus volgens
Johannes
In die tijd,
toen Petrus zich omkeerde, zag hij
dat de leerling van wie Jezus veel hield, hen volgde ;
dezelfde die ook bij de maaltijd tegen Jezus’ borst had geleund
en had gezegd :
Heer, wie is het die U zal overleveren ?
Toen Petrus hem nu zag, vroeg hij aan Jezus :
“Wat dan met hem ?”
Waarop Jezus hem zei :
“Als Ik hem wil laten blijven tot Ik kom,
is dat uw zaak?
“Gij moet Mij volgen !”
Zo ontstond onder de broeders het gerucht
dat die leerling niet zou sterven.
Doch Jezus had hem niet gezegd dat hij niet zou sterven
maar :
Als Ik hem wil laten blijven tot Ik kom,
is dat uw zaak ?
Dit is de leerling
die van deze dingen getuigt en dit geschreven heeft,
en wij weten dat zijn getuigenis waar is.
Er zijn nog veel andere dingen die Jezus gedaan heeft.
Maar als ze een voor een beschreven worden,
dan zou naar mijn mening zelfs de hele wereld
te klein zijn voor de boeken die men dan zou moeten schrijven.

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis
72. De Psalmen nodigen het menselijk wezen herhaaldelijk uit om God de Schepper te prijzen, Hij die “de aarde uitstrekte over het water, want eeuwig is zijn genade” (Ps. 136, 6) . Maar ook de andere schepsels nodigen uit tot lofprijzing: “Zon en maan, verheerlijkt Hem, prijst Hem, stralende sterren, Looft Hem, hoogste hemeltransen, water dat boven het uitspansel staat. Laat hen nu prijzen de naam van de Heer, want zijn bevel heeft hen allen geschapen” (Ps. 148, 3-5) . Wij bestaan niet alleen door de macht van God, maar vóór Hem en met Hem. Daarom aanbidden wij Hem.

May I hereby draw your attention to

This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience this joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.

Consideration
Paul says goodbye to his disciples in Ephesus. He entrusts the pupils of faith to God himself. What Paul has begun, he will complete. Others are waiting for the Good News. The Lord has given them into the hands of people whom He has called to follow Him. Wherever they go, the Spirit of God guides and animates them. They will always find hearts that are open to the Gospel.
FIRST READING Acts 28, 16-20, 30-31
Paul remained in Rome and preached the Kingdom of God there.
From the Acts of the Apostles
After arriving in Rome Paul was given leave
to live on his own with the soldier who was guarding him.
Three days later he summoned the leading Jews.
When they were assembled, he said to them :
“Men and brethren,
even though I have done nothing against our people
or against the ancestral customs,
I have been delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem to the Romans.
“The latter wished to release me after interrogation
because I had committed nothing punishable by death.
“But because the Jews opposed this
I was forced to appeal to the emperor,
but not
as if I had some complaint to make against my people.
“This, then, is the reason
I asked to see you and speak to you.
“It is for the expectation of Israel
that I bear these chains.”
For the full two years Paul stayed there in a rented apartment
and received all who came to him.
He preached the Kingdom of God
and taught the doctrine of the Lord Jesus Christ
with all boldness,
without any hindrance.

God is just, the law is dear to Him,
courts shall see Him.
The Lord in His holy temple,
the Lord, He is enthroned in heaven.
His eyes look down upon us,
His glances penetrate men.
He sees through the good and the bad,

the courts shall see Him.

This is the disciple who wrote this, and his testimony is true.
From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John
At that time,
when Peter turned around, he saw
that the disciple whom Jesus loved very much was following them ;
the same one who at the meal had leaned against Jesus’ breast
and had said :
Lord, who is it that will hand you over?
When Peter saw him now, he asked Jesus :
“What about him?”
Whereupon Jesus said to him :
“If I want him to stay until I come ,
is that your business ?
“You must follow Me!”
Thus a rumour arose among the brethren
that this disciple would not die.
But Jesus had not told him that he would not die, but:
If I want him to stay until I come,
is that your business?
This is the disciple
who testifies of these things and has written this,
and we know that his testimony is true.
There are many other things that Jesus did.
But if they are described one by one,
then in my opinion even the whole world
would be too small for the books that would have to be written.

72. The Psalms repeatedly invite the human being to praise God the Creator, He who “stretched out the earth over the waters, for His grace is everlasting” (Ps. 136:6) . But also the other creatures invite to praise: “Sun and moon, glorify Him, praise Him, shining stars, praise Him, highest heavens, waters that are above the firmament. Let them now praise the name of the Lord, for His command has created them all” (Ps. 148:3-5) . We exist not only by the power of God, but also before Him and with Him. Therefore we worship Him.
