Met Pinksteren herdenken we het neerdalen of uitstorten van de Heilige Geest op aarde.
Uitnodiging
Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

OPENINGSWOORD
Zonder adem is er geen leven.
Het is Gods levensadem, de Heilige Geest,
die ‘Heer is en het leven geeft’.
Die Geest is werkzaam in heel de schepping,
maar wij erkennen Hem ook
als levensprincipe voor onze Kerk
en voor ons eigen leven.
Vandaag bidden wij met aandrang:
‘Kom, Heilige Geest, en ontsteek in ons het vuur van uw liefde’.
Moge ons hart ontvankelijk zijn
om de goddelijke liefdeskracht in ons aan het werk te laten gaan.
EERSTE LEZING Hand. 2, 1-11
Zij werden allen vervuld van de heilige Geest en zij begonnen te spreken.
Toen de dag van Pinksteren aanbrak
waren allen bijeen op dezelfde plaats.
Plotseling kwam uit de hemel
een gedruis alsof er een hevige wind opstak
en heel het huis waar zij gezeten waren was er vol van.
Er verscheen hun iets dat op vuur geleek
en dat zich, in tongen verdeeld, op ieder van hen neerzette.
Zij werden allen vervuld van de heilige Geest
en zij begonnen te spreken in vreemde talen,
naar gelang de Geest hun te vertolken gaf.
Nu woonden er in Jeruzalem Joden,
vrome mannen,
die afkomstig waren uit alle volkeren onder de hemel.
Toen dat geluid ontstond liepen die te hoop
en tot hun verbazing
hoorde iedereen hen spreken in zijn taal.
Zij waren buiten zichzelf en zeiden vol verwondering:
“Maar zijn allen die daar spreken dan geen Galileeërs?
Hoe komt het dan
dat ieder van ons hen hoort spreken
in zijn eigen moedertaal?
Parten, Meden en Elamieten,
bewoners van Mesopotámië, van Judea en Kappadócië,
van Pontus en Asia,
van Frygië en Pamfylië,
Egypte en het gebied van Líbië bij Cyréne,
de Romeinen die hier verblijven,
Joden zowel als proselieten,
Kreténzen en Arabieren,
wij horen hen in onze eigen taal spreken van Gods grote daden.”

Zend uw Geest
en maak uw schepping weer nieuw.
Verheerlijk, mijn ziel, de Heer,

TWEEDE LEZING Rom. 8, 8-17
Allen die zich laten leiden door de geest van God, zijn kinderen van God.
Uit de brief van de heilige apostel Paulus aan de christenen van Rome
Broeders en zusters,
Zij die zelfzuchtig leven,
kunnen God niet behagen.
Maar uw bestaan wordt niet beheerst door de zelfgenoegzaamheid,
maar door de geest,
omdat de Geest van God in u woont.
Zou iemand de Geest van Christus niet hebben,
dan behoort hij Hem niet toe.
Als Christus in u is,
blijft wel uw lichaam door de zonde
de dood gewijd,
maar uw geest lééft,
dankzij de gerechtigheid.
En als de Geest van God,
die Jezus van de doden heeft opgewekt, in u woont,
zal Hij die Christus Jezus van de doden heeft doen opstaan,
ook uw sterfelijk lichaam eenmaal levend maken
door de kracht van zijn Geest, die in u verblijft.
Broeders en zusters,
wij hebben dus verplichtingen,
maar niet aan onszelf, om zelfgenoegzaam te leven.
Als gij zelfzuchtig leeft, zult gij zeker sterven.
Maar als gij door de Geest
de praktijken van de zelfzucht versterft,
zult gij leven.
Allen die zich laten leiden door de Geest van God,
zijn kinderen van God.
De geest die gij ontvangen hebt, is er niet een van slaafsheid
die u opnieuw vrees zou aanjagen.
Gij hebt de geest van het kindschap ontvangen
die ons doet uitroepen:
‘Abba, Vader!’
De Geest zelf bevestigt het getuigenis van onze geest
dat wij kinderen zijn van God.
Maar als wij kinderen zijn,
dan zijn wij ook erfgenamen,
en wel erfgenamen van God, tezamen met Christus,
daar wij delen in zijn lijden om ook te delen in zijn verheerlijking.

Kom, o Geest des Heren, kom
uit het hemels heiligdom,
waar Gij staat voor Gods gezicht.
Kom der armen troost, daal neer,
kom en schenk uw gaven, Heer,
kom, wees in de harten licht.
Kom, o trooster, heil’ge Geest,
zachtheid die de ziel geneest,
kom, verkwikking zoet en mild.
Kom, o vrede in de strijd,
lafenis voor ’t hart dat lijdt,
rust die alle onrust stilt.
Licht dat vol van zegen is,
schijn in onze duisternis,
neem de harten voor U in.
Zonder uw geheime gloed
is er in de mens geen goed,
is de ziel niet rein van zin.
Was wat vuil is en onrein,
overstroom ons dor domein,
heel de ziel die is gewond,
maak weer zacht wat is verstard,
koester het verkilde hart,
leid wie zelf de weg niet vond.
Geef uw gaven zevenvoud
ieder die op U vertrouwt,
zich geheel op U verlaat.

De Geest zal u alles leren
In die tijd zei Jezus tot zijn leerlingen:
“Als gij Mij liefhebt,
zult ge mijn geboden onderhouden.
Dan zal de Vader op mijn gebed
u een andere Helper geven
om voor altijd bij u te blijven.
Als iemand Mij liefheeft
zal hij mijn woord onderhouden;
mijn Vader zal hem liefhebben
en Wij zullen tot hem komen en verblijf bij hem nemen.
“Wie Mij niet liefheeft
onderhoudt mijn woorden niet;
het woord dat gij hoort is niet van Mij
maar van de Vader die Mij gezonden heeft.

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis
73. De geschriften van de profeten nodigen ertoe uit om op moeilijke ogenblikken de kracht te hervinden door naar de machtige God te kijken die het heelal heeft geschapen. De oneindige macht van God brengt ons ertoe voor zijn vaderlijke tederheid te vluchten, want in Hem verenigen zich genegenheid en kracht. In werkelijkheid houdt iedere gezonde spiritualiteit in, tegelijkertijd de goddelijke liefde ontvangen en met vertrouwen de Heer aanbidden om zijn oneindige macht. In de Bijbel is de God die bevrijdt en redt, dezelfde als de God die het heelal heeft geschapen, en deze twee goddelijke handelwijzen zijn nauw en onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden. “Ach, Heer mijn Heer! Gij hebt de hemel en de aarde gemaakt in uw grote macht, met opgestoken arm. Niets is onmogelijk voor U (…) Gij hebt uw volk, Israël, uit Egypte gevoerd met tekenen en wonderen” (Jer. 32, 17.21) . “De Heer is een God van eeuwigheid, Hij heeft de verste hoeken der aarde geschapen. Hij wordt niet moe noch uitgeput, zijn inzicht is niet te doorgronden. Hij geeft aan de vermoeide weer sterkte, aan de onvermogende een overvloed van kracht” (Jes. 40, 28b-29) .

At Pentecost we commemorate the descent or outpouring of the Holy Spirit on earth.
Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
reading the Gospel daily?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience this joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.
Available every morning from 7 am
OPENING WORD
Without breath there is no life.
It is God’s breath of life, the Holy Spirit,
who ‘is Lord and gives life’.
That Spirit is at work in all creation,
but we also acknowledge him
as the principle of life for our Church
and for our own lives.
Today we pray with urgency:
Come, Holy Spirit, and kindle in us the fire of your love.
May our hearts be receptive
to allow the divine power of love to work in us.
FIRST READING Acts 2, 1-11
They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak.
From the Acts of the Apostles
When the day of Pentecost came
all were gathered in the same place.
Suddenly there came from heaven
a noise as if a violent wind had come up
and the whole house where they were sitting was filled with it.
Something like fire appeared to them

Brothers and Sisters,
Those who live selfishly
cannot please God.
But your existence is not ruled by self-satisfaction
but by the Spirit,
because the Spirit of God dwells in you.
If someone does not have the Spirit of Christ
then he does not belong to Him.
If Christ is in you,
though your body remains consecrated to death
consecrated to death,
but your spirit lives,
thanks to righteousness.
And if the Spirit of God
who raised Jesus from the dead, dwells in you,
He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also quicken your mortal body one day,
will also quicken your mortal body once
by the power of His Spirit, who dwells in you.
Brothers and sisters,
we have obligations, then,
but not to ourselves, to live selfishly.
If ye live selfishly, ye shall surely die.
But if by the Spirit you let disappear
the practices of selfishness
ye shall live.
All those who are guided by the Spirit of God
are children of God.
The Spirit which ye have received is not one of slavishness
that would cause you to fear again.
You have received the spirit of the childhood
which makes us cry out:

The Spirit Himself confirms the testimony of our spirit
that we are children of God.
But if we are children,
then we are also heirs,
and heirs of God, together with Christ,
since we share in his sufferings in order also to share in his glorification.

73. The writings of the prophets invite us to regain strength in difficult moments by looking to the mighty God who created the universe. The infinite power of God leads us to flee from His fatherly tenderness, for in Him affection and strength are united. In reality, any healthy spirituality involves simultaneously receiving divine love and confidently worshipping the Lord for His infinite power. In the Bible, the God who liberates and saves is the same as the God who created the universe, and these two divine actions are closely and inextricably linked. “Ah, my Lord! Thou hast made the heavens and the earth in Thy great power, with upraised arm. Nothing is impossible for You (…) You brought Your people, Israel, out of Egypt with signs and wonders” (Jer. 32, 17.21) . “The Lord is a God of eternity, He created the farthest corners of the earth. He is not weary nor exhausted; His understanding is unfathomable. He gives strength to the weary, and abundance of strength to the needy” (Is. 40, 28b-29) .
