Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Niet tegen de cultus als zodanig zijn de verwijten van Amos gericht, maar tegen cultus gepaard met sociale onrechtvaardigheid. Dit is een rode draad doorheen het boek. Alle corrupte gebruiken worden vermeld, maar het ergste is de corruptie van het gerecht zelf. De afwijzing door Amasja de priester doet de deur dicht: Er is geen heil meer mogelijk. De dag die Israël verwachtte was een dag van heil, en overwinning op de vijanden, zegt Amos. Het zal een dag zijn van destructie, van duisternis i.p.v. licht, een dag van verschrikking. Zo wordt heilsgeschiedenis onheilsgeschiedenis en worden alle verwachtingen de kop ingedrukt.
EERSTE LEZING Am. 8, 4-6.9-12
Ik zal honger brengen in het land, geen honger naar brood,
maar om het woord van de Heer te horen.
Uit de Profeet Amos
“Hoort dit, gij die strikken spant voor de armen
om de misdeelden in het land te verdelgen,
gij die redeneert :
Wanneer is de nieuwe maan voorbij ?”
Dan kunnen wij ons koren verkopen !
“En wanneer de sabbat ?
“Dan kunnen wij ons graan uitstallen.
“Dan verkleinen wij de korenmaat,
dan verhogen wij de prijs
en bedriegen wij met een valse weegschaal.
“Dan kopen wij de kleine man voor geld,
de arme voor een paar schoenen,
en verhandelen wij zelfs het uitschot van ons koren.”
“Op die dag – zo luidt de godsspraak van de Heer –
doe Ik de zon ondergaan op het middaguur,
verduister Ik de aarde op klaarlichte dag.
“Dan verkeer Ik uw feesten in rouw,
al uw liederen in weeklachten ;
om alle heupen leg Ik een rouwkleed
en alle hoofden scheer Ik kaal.
“Ik zal het land doen rouwen als over een enig kind ;
de laatste dag van dit land zal bitter zijn.
“Zie, de dagen komen – zo luidt het orakel van God de Heer –
dat Ik honger breng in dit land,
geen honger naar brood, geen dorst naar water,
maar honger en dorst om het woord van de Heer te horen.
“Dan zullen zij zwerven van zee naar zee,
dwalen van het noorden naar het oosten
overal zoekend naar het woord van de Heer,
maar zij zullen het niet vinden.
TUSSENZANG Ps. 119(118), 2, 10, 20, 30, 40, 131
Niet van brood alleen leeft de mens,
maar van alles wat uit de mond van God voortkomt
(Mt 4, 4b)
Gelukkig die acht slaan op wat God verordent,
Hem zoeken met heel hun hart.
Met heel mijn hart richt ik mij tot U :
laat mij niet afwijken van uw geboden.
Mijn geest wordt verteerd van verlangen
naar alles wat Gij hebt bepaald.
Ik heb de weg van de trouw gekozen,
ik houd mij aan wat Gij bepaaldt.

Ik wil liever barmhartigheid dan offers.
Uit het heilig evangelie van onze Heer Jezus Christus volgens
Matteüs
In die tijd ging Jezus verder,
Hij zag iemand aan het tolhuis zitten die Matteüs heette,
en Hij zei tot hem :
“Volg Mij.”
De man stond op en volgde Hem.
Terwijl Hij nu in diens woning aan tafel aanlag,
kwamen ook vele tollenaars en zondaars
met Jezus en zijn leerlingen aanliggen.
Toen de Farizeeën dat zagen zeiden ze tot zijn leerlingen :
“Waarom eet uw Meester met tollenaars en zondaars ?”
Hij hoorde dit en zei :
“Niet de gezonden hebben een dokter nodig, maar de zieken.
“Gaat heen en leert wat het zeggen wil :
Ik wil liever barmhartigheid dan offers.
“Ik ben niet gekomen om rechtvaardigen
maar zondaars te roepen”

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis
99. Volgens de christelijk opvatting van de werkelijkheid loopt de bestemming van de hele schepping via het mysterie van Christus, die vanaf het begin tegenwoordig is: “Het heelal is geschapen door Hem en voor Hem” (Kol. 1, 16) . De proloog van het Johannesevangelie (Joh. 1, 1-18) laat de scheppende activiteit van Christus als goddelijk Woord (Logos) zien. Maar deze proloog verrast door zijn bewering dat dit Woord “vlees is geworden” (Joh. 1, 14). Een Persoon van de Drie-eenheid heeft zich gevoegd in de geschapen kosmos en het lot ervan tot aan het kruis heeft gedeeld. Vanaf het begin van de wereld, maar op een bijzondere wijze te beginnen bij de menswording, is het mysterie van Christus op een verborgen wijze werkzaam in het geheel van de natuurlijke werkelijkheid zonder daardoor de autonomie ervan aan te tasten.

Consideration
Amos’ reproaches are not directed against the cult as such, but against the cult combined with social injustice. This is a common thread throughout the book. All corrupt practices are mentioned, but the worst is the corruption of the court itself. The rejection by Amasha the priest closes the door: No more salvation is possible. The day that Israel expected was a day of salvation, and victory over the enemies, says Amos. It will be a day of destruction, of darkness instead of light, a day of terror. Thus, the history of salvation becomes the history of doom and all expectations are crushed.
FIRST READING Am. 8, 4-6.9-12
I will bring famine into the land, not hunger for bread,
but to hear the word of the Lord.
From the Prophet Amos
“Hear this, you who lay snares for the poor
to destroy the poor in the land,
ye who reason :
When will the new moon be over?
Then we can sell our corn!

“Then we buy the little man for money,

“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
“Go and learn what it means:
I want mercy rather than sacrifice.
“I have not come to call the righteous
but to call sinners”.

According to the Christian conception of reality, the destiny of all creation passes through the mystery of Christ, who is present from the beginning: “The universe was created by him and for him” (Col 1:16). 4 The prologue of John’s Gospel (Jn 1:1-18) shows the creative activity of Christ as divine Word (Logos). But this prologue surprises by asserting that this Word “became flesh” (Jn 1:14). A Person of the Trinity has joined the created cosmos and shared its destiny until the cross. From the beginning of the world, but in a special way beginning with the Incarnation, the mystery of Christ has been working in a hidden way in the whole of natural reality, without affecting its autonomy.
