Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
De parabels die over ‘het laatste oordeel’ gaan, liggen ons niet goed. De taal ervan is scherp en hard. Ze pakken ons hard aan. Toch willen ze vooral een oproep tot oprechte bekering zijn. Wij mogen blijven vertrouwen op een God die liefdevol en barmhartig voor zijn mensen is. Oproepen tot bekering is misschien wel een vorm van liefhebben. Het is het beste willen voor de ander. Hebben wij daar oor voor?
EERSTE LEZING Jer. 18, 1-6
Als leem in de hand van de pottenbakker zijt gij in mijn hand, huis van Israël.
Uit de Profeet Jeremia
Dit woord van de Heer kwam tot Jeremia :
“Ga naar het huis van de pottenbakker.
“Daar zal Ik u laten horen wat Ik heb te zeggen.”
Ik ging naar het huis van de pottenbakker.
Deze was juist aan het werk op de schijf.
Toen de pot die hij aan het boetseren was
onder zijn handen mislukte,
begon hij met de leem een andere pot te maken,
die hem wel beviel.
Daarop kwam het woord van de Heer tot mij :
“Huis van Israël,
kan Ik niet met u doen als deze pottenbakker
– zo luidt de godsspraak van de Heer -?
“Als leem in de hand van de pottenbakker
zijt gij in mijn hand, huis van Israël.”
TUSSENZANG Ps. 146(145), 2abc, 2d-4, 5-6
Gelukkig wie hulp zoekt bij Jakobs God.
De Heer zal ik loven mijn leven lang,
mijn God zal ik alle dagen bezingen.
Vertrouwt op geen vorst, die mens is als wij,
hij kan het geluk niet schenken.
Eens geeft hij de geest, keert terug naar de aarde,
dan is het gedaan met zijn macht.
Gelukkig wie hulp zoekt bij Jakobs God,
zijn hoop stelt op God de Heer ;
op Hem die hemel en aarde gemaakt heeft,
de zee met al wat daar leeft.

Alleluia.
Wees mij barmhartig en laat mij leven, Heer,
dan blijf ik aan wat Gij verordent trouw.

EVANGELIE Mt. 13, 47-53
De goede vissen werden uitgezocht en in manden gedaan,
de slechte werden weggeworpen.
Uit het heilig evangelie van onze Heer Jezus Christus volgens
Matteüs
In die tijd zei Jezus tot de menigte :
“Het Rijk der hemelen gelijkt op een sleepnet
dat, in zee geworpen,
vissen van allerlei soort bijeenbracht.
“Toen het vol was trok men het op het strand ;
men zette zich neer
om de goede vissen uit te zoeken en in manden te doen,
de slechte echter werden weggeworpen.
“Zo zal het ook gaan op het einde van de wereld :
De engelen zullen uittrekken
om de slechten tussen de rechtvaardigen uit te zoeken
en in de vuuroven te werpen.
“Daar zal geween zijn en tandengeknars.
“Hebt gij dit alles begrepen ?”
Zij antwoordden Hem :
“Ja.”
Hij zei hun :
“Daarom is iedere schriftgeleerde
die onderwezen is in het Rijk der hemelen,
gelijk aan een huisvader
die uit zijn schat nieuw en oud te voorschijn haalt.”
Toen Jezus deze gelijkenissen had beëindigd
ging Hij vandaar weg.

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis
126. Laten wij ook iets oppakken uit de lange kloostertraditie. Aan het begin begunstigde zij in zekere zin de vlucht uit de wereld door zo te trachten zich te verwijderen van de decadentie van de stad. Daarom zochten de monniken de woestijn, ervan overtuigd dat het de geschikte plaats was om de tegenwoordigheid van God te herkennen. Vervolgens wilde de heilige Benedictus van Norcia dat zijn monniken in gemeenschap leefden en daarbij gebed en studie verenigden met handwerk (Ora et labora). Dit invoeren van handwerk dat van spirituele betekenis is doortrokken, bleek revolutionair zijn. Men leerde rijping en heiliging te zoeken in een vervlechting van bezinning en arbeid. Deze manier van het beleven van de arbeid stelt ons meer in staat tot de zorg en het respect voor het milieu, vervult onze relatie met de wereld van een gezonde soberheid.

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience this joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.
Available every morning from 7 am
Consideration
The parables that deal with ’the last judgment’ do not sit well with us. Their language is sharp and harsh. They are hard on us. Yet, above all, they want to be a call to sincere conversion. We may continue to trust in a God who is loving and merciful to his people. Calling to repentance is perhaps a form of loving. It is wanting the best for others. Do we have ears for this?
FIRST READING Jer. 18, 1-6
You are in my hand, house of Israel, as clay in the potter’s hand.
From the prophet Jeremiah
This word of the Lord came to Jeremiah :
“Go to the house of the potter.
“There I will let you hear what I have to say.”
I went to the potter’s house.
He was just working on the disc.
When the pot that he was modelling
failed under his hands,
he began to make another pot with the clay,
that pleased him.
Then the word of the Lord came to me:
“House of Israel,
can I not do unto you as this potter did?
– Is this how the Lord speaks about God?
“As clay in the potter’s hand
thou art in my hand, house of Israel.”

Happy who seek help from Jacob’s God.
The Lord will I praise all my life,
My God will I sing all the days of my life.
Trust in no prince, who is a man like us,

At that time Jesus said to the crowd :
“The kingdom of heaven is like a dragging net
which, when thrown into the sea,
when thrown into the sea, brought together fish of every kind.
“When it was full, they pulled it down onto the beach ;
they sat down
to pick out the good fish and put them in baskets,
but the bad ones were thrown away.
“So shall it be at the end of the world :
The angels will go out
to pick out the bad ones among the righteous
and cast them into the furnace of fire.
“There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
“Have you understood all this?”
They answered Him :
“Yes.”
He said to them :
“Therefore every scribe
who is instructed in the kingdom of heaven,
is like a householder
who brings out of his treasure new and old.”
When Jesus had finished these parables
He went away from there.

On Care of the Common Home
126. Let us also pick up something from the long monastic tradition. At the beginning they favoured, in a certain sense, escape from the world by trying to get away from the decadence of the city. That is why the monks sought the desert, convinced that it was the right place to recognise the presence of God. Saint Benedict of Norcia then wanted his monks to live in community, combining prayer and study with manual work (Ora et labora). This introduction of manual work imbued with spiritual meaning proved revolutionary. People learned to seek maturity and sanctification in an interweaving of reflection and work. This way of living labour makes us more capable of caring for and respecting the environment, fills our relationship with the world with a healthy austerity.
