Uitnodiging
Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Jezus opende in zijn tijd nieuwe horizonten. Dat doet Hij ook voor ons, vandaag. Hij dwingt ons de ramen te openen. Vaak denken we dat alleen in onze moderne samenleving en de Kerk van vandaag waarden en tradities in vraag gesteld worden. Het evangelie van vandaag toont hoe groot de tegenstellingen waren tussen hen die de letter van de wet vooropstelden, en degenen die Jezus’ boodschap concreet wilden maken in hun leven. Wanneer ervaar ik deze spanning zelf? Hoe sterk weegt die op mijn levenswijze?
EERSTE LEZING 2 Tess. 2, 1-3a. 14-17
Houdt u aan de overleveringen waarin gij door ons zijt onderwezen.
Uit de tweede brief van de heilige apostel Paulus aan de christenen van Tessalonica
Broeders en zusters,
Wij moeten u verzoeken
in verband met de komst van onze Heer Jezus Christus
en onze hereniging met Hem
niet zo gauw uw bezinning te verliezen,
en u niet te laten opschrikken
door profetieën, uitspraken of brieven
die van ons afkomstig zouden zijn, en die beweren
dat de dag van de Heer is aangebroken.
Laat u door niemand iets wijsmaken !
God heeft u geroepen
door onze verkondiging van het evangelie,
opdat gij
de heerlijkheid van onze Heer Jezus Christus zoudt verwerven.
Dus, broeders en zusters,
staat vast en houdt u aan de overleveringen
waarin gij door ons zijt onderwezen,
hetzij mondeling hetzij schriftelijk.
Moge de Heer Jezus Christus zelf,
moge God, onze Vader
die ons zijn liefde heeft betoond, en ons in zijn genade
eeuwige troost en blijde hoop heeft geschonken,
uw harten bemoedigen
en sterken met alle goeds, in woord en daad.
TUSSENZANG Ps. 96(95), 10, 11-12,13
Rechtvaardig zal de Heer de wereld regeren.
Zegt tot elkander : de Heer regeert !
Onwrikbaar heeft Hij de aarde geschapen,
de volken bestuurt Hij met billijkheid.
Dan straalt de hemel en jubelt de aarde,
de zee neuriet mee met al wat daar leeft ;
de velden zwaaien met al hun gewassen,
de woudreuzen buigen hun kruin.
Zij juichen de Heer toe omdat Hij komt,
Hij komt als koning der aarde.

de volkeren eerlijk en trouw.

“Wee u, schriftgeleerden en Farizeeën, huichelaars !
“Gij betaalt wel tienden van munt, anijs en komijn,
maar het gewichtigste van de Wet :
Rechtvaardigheid, barmhartigheid en trouw
verwaarloost ge.
“Het ene moet men doen en het andere niet nalaten.
“Blinde leiders, die de mug uitzift en de kameel doorslikt !
“Wee u, schriftgeleerden en Farizeeën, huichelaars !
“De buitenkant van beker en schotel maakt ge schoon,
maar van binnen zijn ze gevuld met roof en genotzucht.
“Blinde Farizeeën, reinigt eerst de beker van binnen,
dan wordt de buitenkant van zelf rein.”

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis
152. Het gebrek aan woningen is een ernstig probleem in veel delen van de wereld, zowel in de plattelandsgebieden als in de grote steden, ook omdat de staatsuitgaven gewoonlijk slechts een gedeelte van de vraag dekt. Niet alleen de armen, maar ook een groot gedeelte van de maatschappij komt serieuze moeilijkheden tegen om een eigen huis te hebben. Het eigendom van een huis is van groot belang voor de waardigheid van de persoon en de ontwikkeling van het gezin. Het betreft een centrale kwestie in de menselijke ecologie. Als op een bepaalde plaats zich reeds chaotische agglomeraten van wankele huizen hebben ontwikkeld, dan gaat het vóór alles om die wijken te urbaniseren en niet de bewoners ervan hun wortels te ontnemen en hen te verdrijven. Wanneer de armen in vervuilde voorsteden of gevaarlijke agglomeraten wonen, “ is het noodzakelijk om deze mensen elders te vestigen opdat de ellende niet wordt opeengestapeld, moet op voorhand een passende informatie worden verstrekt waarbij een keuze aan fatsoenlijke huizen wordt geboden en waarbij de belanghebbenden rechtstreeks bij het proces worden betrokken”. Tegelijkertijd zou de creativiteit ertoe moeten leiden de armoedige wijken binnen een gastvrije stad te integreren. “Hoe mooi zijn de steden die ongezond wantrouwen weten te overwinnen en hen die anders zijn, integreren en die van die integratie een nieuwe factor van ontwikkeling maken! Hoe mooi zijn de steden die ook in hun architectonisch plan vol ruimtes zijn die verbinden, relaties tot stand brengen, de erkenning van de anderen bevorderen!”.

Consideration
Jesus opened new horizons in his time. He does the same for us today. He forces us to open the windows. We often think that it is only in our modern society and in the Church of today that values and traditions are questioned. Today’s gospel shows how great the contrasts were between those who put the letter of the law first and those who wanted to make Jesus’ message concrete in their lives. When do I experience this tension myself? How much does it weigh on my way of life?
FIRST READING 2 Tess. 2, 1-3a. 14-17
Hold fast to the traditions in which you have been taught by us.
From the Second Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Christians of Thessalonica
Brothers and sisters,
We must beseech you
in connection with the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
and our reunion with Him,
do not lose your minds so soon,
and not to be startled
by prophecies, sayings or letters
that are said to come from us, and which claim
that the day of the Lord has come.
Do not be fooled by anyone!
God has called you
through our preaching of the gospel,
that you may
acquire the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
So, brothers and sisters,
stand fast and hold fast to the traditions
in which you have been taught by us,

152. The lack of housing is a serious problem in many parts of the world, both in rural areas and in large cities, partly because state expenditure usually covers only part of the demand. Not only the poor, but also a large section of society encounters serious difficulties in owning a home. Ownership of a house is of great importance for the dignity of the person and the development of the family. It is a central issue in human ecology. When chaotic agglomerations of ramshackle houses have already developed in a particular place, the priority is to urbanise those neighbourhoods and not to deprive their inhabitants of their roots and drive them away. When the poor live in polluted suburbs or dangerous agglomerations, “(it is necessary) to relocate them so that the misery does not accumulate, appropriate information must be provided in advance, offering a choice of decent houses and directly involving stakeholders in the process”. At the same time, creativity should lead to integrating the poorest neighbourhoods within a welcoming city. “How beautiful are the cities that manage to overcome unhealthy mistrust and integrate those who are different and make that integration a new factor of development! How beautiful are the cities that are also in their architectural plan full of spaces that connect, create relationships, promote the recognition of others!”.
