De Heer verzamelt alle volkeren in de eeuwige vrede van het Rijk van God.

Uit de Profeet Jesaja

Visioen van Jesaja, de zoon van Amos,
over Juda en Jeruzalem.
Op het einde der dagen
zal de berg waarop de tempel van de HEER staat,
oprijzen boven alle bergen
en uitsteken boven alle heuvels.
Alle volkeren zullen erheen stromen
en talloze naties erheen trekken.
Zij zullen zeggen:
“Kom, laat ons optrekken naar de berg van de HEER,
naar de tempel van Jakobs God.
“Hij zal ons zijn wegen wijzen
en wij zullen zijn paden bewandelen.
“Want uit Sion komt de Wet,
het Woord van de HEER uit Jeruzalem.
“Oordelen zal Hij de volkeren,
rechtspreken over de talloze naties.
“Zij zullen hun zwaarden omsmeden tot ploegijzers,
hun speren tot sikkels.
“Geen volk zal nog het zwaard trekken tegen een ander,
en niemand zal nog leren oorlog voeren.
“Huis van Jakob, kom,
Iaat ons wandelen in het licht van de HEER.”

Ons heil is nabij.

Broeders en zusters,

Gij weet
dat het uur om uit de slaap te ontwaken
reeds is aangebroken.
Thans is ons heil dichterbij
dan toen wij tot het geloof kwamen.
De nacht loopt ten einde, de dag breekt aan.
Laten wij ons dus ontdoen van de werken der duisternis
en ons wapenen met het licht.
Laten wij ons behoorlijk gedragen
als op klaarlichte dag,
en ons onthouden van braspartijen en drinkgelagen,
van ontucht en losbandigheid, van twist en nijd.
Bekleedt u met de Heer Jezus Christus
en koestert geen zondige begeerten meer.

In die tijd zei Jezus tot zijn leerlingen:
“Zoals het ging in de dagen van Noach,
zo zal het gaan bij de komst van de Mensenzoon.
Zoals de mensen in de dagen voor de zondvloed
doorgingen met eten en drinken,
met huwen en ten huwelijk geven,
tot op de dag waarop Noach de ark binnenging,
en zij niets vermoedden
totdat de zondvloed kwam en allen wegrukte:
Zo zal het gaan bij de komst van de Mensenzoon.
Dan zullen er twee op de akker zijn:
De een wordt meegenomen, de ander achtergelaten:
Twee vrouwen zullen met de molen aan het malen zijn:
De een wordt meegenomen, de andere achtergelaten.
Weest dus waakzaam,
want gij weet niet op welke dag uw Heer komt.
Begrijpt dit wel:
Als de eigenaar van het huis wist
op welk uur van de nacht de dief zou komen,
zou hij blijven waken en in zijn huis niet laten inbreken.
Weest ook gij dus bereid,
omdat de Mensenzoon komt op het uur
waarop gij het niet verwacht.”

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis

Laudato Si’ – Gezegend zijt Gij (1-2)

1. “Wees geprezen, mijn Heer”, zong de heilige Franciscus van Assisi. In dit mooie lied herinnerde hij ons eraan dat ons gemeenschappelijke huis ook als het ware een zuster is met wie het bestaan delen, en als een mooie moeder die ons in haar armen neemt: “U zij de lof, mijn Heer, om onze zuster aarde, die ons voedt en leidt en verscheidene vruchten voortbrengt met kleurrijke bloemen en gras”. 

2. Deze zuster protesteert om het kwaad dat wij haar hebben aangedaan, vanwege het onverantwoorde gebruik en het misbruik van de goederen die God in haar heeft gelegd.  Wij zijn opgeroeid met het idee dat wij haar eigenaar en heer waren, bevoegd om haar te plunderen. Het geweld dat in het, door de zonde gewonde hart van de mens aanwezig is, wordt ook zichtbaar in de ziektesymptomen die wij in de bodem, het water, de lucht en de levende wezens gewaarworden. Daarom is er onder de meest in de steek gelaten en slecht behandelde armen onze onderdrukte en verwoeste aarde, die “kreunt en barensweeën lijdt” (Rom. 8, 22) . Wij vergeten dat wij zelf aarde zijn. Ons lichaam zelf wordt gevormd door de elementen van de planeet, haar lucht geeft ons adem en haar water schenkt ons leven en verkwikt ons.

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every morning from 7 a.m.

 

Opening word

Advent is a time
of expectant anticipation and intense longing,
a time also of joyful hope.
Together we set out on our journey.
Salvation is announced to us,
the beginning of a new day,
light in the darkness.
We can look forward to a new encounter with Him
who already meets us here in the Eucharist.

 

FIRST READING             Isa 2:1-5

The Lord gathers all nations in the eternal peace of the Kingdom of God.

From the Prophet Isaiah

Vision of Isaiah, the son of Amos,
about Judah and Jerusalem.
At the end of days
the mountain on which the temple of the LORD stands,
will rise above all the mountains
and tower above all hills.
All peoples will stream to it
and countless nations flock to it.
They will say:
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD ,
to the temple of Jacob’s God.
“He will show us his ways
and we will walk his paths.
“For out of Zion comes the Law,
the Word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
“He will judge the nations,
judge the countless nations.
“They shall turn their swords into ploughshares,
their spears into sickles.
“No people shall yet draw sword against another,

Now our salvation is nearer
than when we came to faith.
The night is coming to an end, the day is dawning.
So let us rid ourselves of the works of darkness
and arm ourselves with the light.
Let us behave properly
as in broad daylight,
and abstain from brawls and drinking bouts,
from fornication and debauchery, from strife and envy.
Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ
and cherish no more sinful lusts.

so shall it be at the coming of the Son of Man.
As the people in the days before the flood
went on eating and drinking,
with marrying and giving in marriage,
until the day Noah entered the ark,
and they suspected nothing
until the flood came and snatched all away:
So shall it be at the coming of the Son of Man.
Then there will be two in the field:
One will be taken away, the other left behind:
Two women will be grinding with the mill:

On caring for the common home

 

Laudato Si’ – Blessed art Thou (1-2)

1. “Be praised, my Lord,” sang St Francis of Assisi. In this beautiful song, he reminded us that our common home is also like a sister with whom we share existence, and like a beautiful mother who takes us in her arms: “Praise be to you, my Lord, for our sister earth, which nourishes and guides us and brings forth several fruits with colourful flowers and grass”.

2. This sister protests for the evil we have done to her, because of the irresponsible use and misuse of the goods God has put in her.  We grew up thinking that we were her owner and lord, authorised to plunder her. The violence present in the, sin-wounded heart of man is also evident in the symptoms of disease we perceive in the soil, water, air and living things. Therefore, among the most abandoned and ill-treated poor is our oppressed and devastated earth, which “groans and suffers travail” (Rom. 8:22) . We forget that we ourselves are earth. Our body itself is shaped by the elements of the planet, its air gives us breath and its water gives us life and refreshes us.
