Uitnodiging
Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Openingswoord
Hoe ontzagwekkend groot
is het wonder dat God klein wordt als een mensenkind.
Hoe onuitsprekelijk vreugdevol
is het goede nieuws van het Woord dat mens is geworden.
Ook aan ons wordt vrede en redding toegezegd,
ook vandaag wil God midden onder ons wonen.
Laten we ons hart daarvoor openstellen
en Hem danken om zijn goedheid en zijn trouw.
EERSTE LEZING Jes. 52, 7-10
Alle grenzen der aarde hebben het heil van onze God aanschouwd.
Uit de profeet Jesaja
Hoe lieflijk op de bergen de voeten van de vreugdebode,
die vrede meldt,
goed nieuws verkondigt,
die heil komt melden,
die zegt tot Sion: Uw God regeert!
Hoort!
Uw torenwachters verheffen hun stem,
zij jubelen tegelijk
want zij zien, oog in oog,
de terugkeer van de Heer naar Sion.
Barst los in jubel, allen samen,
puinen van Jeruzalem,
want de Heer heeft zijn volk getroost;
Hij heeft Jeruzalem verlost.
De Heer heeft zijn heilige arm ontbloot
voor de ogen van alle volkeren;
en alle grenzen der aarde
hebben het heil van onze God aanschouwd.

Geheel de aarde aanschouwde

TWEEDE LEZING Hebr. 1, 1-6
God heeft tot ons gesproken door de Zoon.
Uit de brief aan de Hebreeën
Broeders en zusters,
Nadat God eertijds
vele malen en op velerlei wijzen
tot onze vaderen gesproken had door de profeten,
heeft Hij nu, op het einde der tijden
tot ons gesproken door de Zoon,
die Hij erfgenaam gemaakt heeft van al wat bestaat
en door wie Hij het heelal heeft geschapen.
Hij is de afstraling van Gods heerlijkheid
en het evenbeeld van zijn wezen.
Hij houdt alles in stand door zijn machtig woord.
En na de reiniging der zonden te hebben voltrokken
heeft Hij zich neergezet
ter rechterzijde van de majesteit in den hoge,
ver verheven boven de engelen,
zoals Hij hen ook overtreft
in de waardigheid die zijn deel is geworden.
Heeft God ooit tot een engel gezegd :
“Gij zijt mijn Zoon ;
Ik heb U heden verwekt ?” Of :
“Ik zal een vader voor Hem zijn en Hij zal mijn zoon zijn ?”
Wanneer Hij evenwel
de Eerstgeborene opnieuw de wereld binnenleidt, zegt Hij :
“Alle engelen Gods moeten Hem hulde brengen.”

Wij staan in het volle licht van deze heilige dag:
komt, laten we de Heer aanbidden.
Want heden daalde een groot licht op aarde neer.

EVANGELIE Joh. 1, 1-18
Het Woord is vlees geworden en heeft onder ons gewoond.
Begin van het heilig evangelie van onze Heer Jezus Christus volgens
Johannes
In het begin was het Woord
en het Woord was bij God
en het Woord was God.
Dit was in het begin bij God.
Alles is door Hem geworden
en zonder Hem is niets geworden
van wat geworden is.
In Hem was leven
en dat leven was het licht der mensen.
En het licht schijnt in de duisternis
maar de duisternis nam het niet aan.
Er trad een mens op, een gezondene van God ;
zijn naam was Johannes.
Deze kwam tot getuigenis,
om te getuigen van het Licht
opdat allen door Hem tot geloof zouden komen.
Niet hij was het Licht
maar hij moest getuigen van het Licht.
Het ware Licht,
dat iedere mens verlicht,
kwam in de wereld.
Hij was in de wereld ;
de wereld was door Hem geworden
en toch erkende de wereld Hem niet.
Hij kwam in het zijne,
maar de zijnen aanvaardden Hem niet.
Aan allen echter die Hem wel aanvaardden,
aan hen die in zijn Naam geloven
gaf Hij het vermogen
kinderen van God te worden ;
Zij zijn niet uit bloed
noch uit begeerte van het vlees
of de wil van een man,
maar uit God geboren.
Het Woord is vlees geworden
en heeft onder ons gewoond.
Wij hebben zijn heerlijkheid aanschouwd,
zulk een heerlijkheid
als de Eniggeborene van de Vader ontvangt,
vol genade en waarheid.
Wij hebben Johannes’ getuigenis over Hem toe hij uitriep :
“Deze was het van wie ik zei :
Hij die achter mij komt is vóór mij,
want Hij was eerder dan ik .”
Van zijn volheid hebben wij allen ontvangen ;
genade op genade.
Werd de Wet door Mozes gegeven,
de genade en waarheid kwamen door Jezus Christus.
Niemand heeft ooit God gezien ;
de Eniggeboren God
die in de schoot van de Vader is,
Hij heeft Hem doen kennen.

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis
30. Terwijl de kwaliteit van beschikbaar water voortdurend verslechtert, wordt op sommige plaatsen de tendens steeds sterker deze schaarse hulpbron te privatiseren, die is veranderd in koopwaar, onderworpen aan de wetten van de markt. In werkelijkheid is de toegang tot veilig drinkwater een wezenlijk, fundamenteel en universeel recht van de mens, omdat het het overleven van de mensen bepaalt en daarom is het een voorwaarde voor het uitoefenen van de andere rechten van de mens. Deze wereld heeft een zware maatschappelijke schuld jegens de armen, die geen toegang hebben tot drinkwater, omdat dit betekent dat hun het recht op een leven in lijn met hun onvervreemdbare waardigheid wordt ontzegd. Deze schuld wordt gedeeltelijk ingelost door grotere economische bijdragen om schoon water en zuiveringsinstallaties te leveren bij de armste bevolkingen. Maar men constateert een verspilling van water in de ontwikkelde landen, maar ook in de ontwikkelingslanden die grote reserves bezitten. Dat maakt duidelijk dat het waterprobleem gedeeltelijk een kwestie van opvoeding en cultuur is, omdat er geen bewustzijn is van de ernst van deze gedragingen in een context van grote ongelijkheid.

Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience this joy by opening their hearts
to the healing effect of God’s word.

Opening words
How awe-inspiringly great
is the miracle of God becoming small as a human child.
How unspeakably joyful
is the good news of the Word made human.
We too are promised peace and salvation,
even today God wants to live among us.
Let us open our hearts to this
and thank Him for His goodness and His faithfulness.
FIRST READING Isa 52:7-10
All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
From the prophet Isaiah
How sweet the feet of the messenger of joy on the mountains,
who announces peace,
proclaiming good news,
who comes to proclaim salvation,
who says to Zion, Thy God reigns!
Hear!
Thy tower-guards lift up their voice,
they rejoice at the same time
for they see, face to face,
the return of the Lord to Zion.
Break forth into jubilation, all together,
the ruins of Jerusalem,
for the Lord has comforted his people;
He has redeemed Jerusalem.

God has spoken to us through the Son.
From the letter to the Hebrews
Brothers and sisters,
After God had spoken
many times and in many different ways
to our fathers through the prophets,
He has now spoken, at the end of the age
to us through the Son,
whom He has made heir of all that exists
and through whom He created the universe.
He is the radiance of God’s glory
and the image of his being.
He sustains everything by his mighty word,
and having accomplished the cleansing of sins
He has set himself down
at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
exalted far above the angels,
as He also surpasses them
in the dignity which has become his portion.
Has God ever said to an angel :
“Thou art my Son;
I have begotten thee this day?” Or :
“I will be a father to Him, and He shall be My son?”
However, when He
leads the Firstborn into the world again, He says :
“All the angels of God must pay homage to Him.”

GOSPEL John 1, 1-18
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
Beginning of the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John
In the beginning was the Word
and the Word was with God
and the Word was God.
This was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through Him
and without Him nothing has become
of what has become.
In Him was life
and that life was the light of men.
And the light shines in the darkness
but the darkness did not accept it.
There arose a man, a sent from God ;
his name was John.
He came to testify,
to bear witness of the light
that all might come to faith through him.
Not he was the light
but he was to be a witness of the Light.
The true Light,
which enlightens every man,
came into the world.
He was in the world ;
the world had become through Him
and yet the world did not recognise Him.
He came into his own, but his own people did not accept him.
To all, however, who did accept Him,
those who believe in his name
He gave the ability
to become children of God;
they are not of blood
nor of the lust of the flesh
or the will of man,
but born of God.
The Word became flesh
and dwelt among us.
We have beheld his glory,
such glory
as the Only Begotten receives from the Father,
full of grace and truth.
We have John’s testimony concerning Him when he exclaimed :
“It was He of whom I said:
He who comes after me is before me,
for He was before me.”
Of his fullness we have all received ;
grace upon grace.
If the Law was given through Moses,
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God ;
the Only Begotten God
who is in the bosom of the Father,
He has made Him known.

30. As the quality of available water continues to deteriorate, there is a growing tendency in some places to privatise this scarce resource, turning it into a commodity subject to the laws of the market. In reality, access to safe drinking water is an essential, fundamental and universal human right because it determines human survival and is thus a prerequisite for the exercise of other human rights. This world owes a heavy social debt to the poor who do not have access to drinking water because it means denying them the right to live in accordance with their inalienable dignity. This debt is partially repaid by increased economic contributions to provide clean water and treatment facilities to the poorest. But there is a waste of water in developed countries as well as in developing countries with large reserves. This shows that the water problem is partly a matter of education and culture, as people are not aware of the seriousness of this behaviour in a context of great inequality.
