Thursday in the second week of Easter

Boek met kaars 40

Invitation

May I hereby call your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.

Available every day.

Consideration
The apostles are accused by the high priests. They fail to comply with the prohibition against proclaiming, and in substance they continue to accuse the authorities of having carried out the murder of Jesus. Peter answers the accusations, but formally affirms that they will not obey except to God.  Faith in Jesus, in his death and resurrection will require sacrifices, also from us : The prosecution will end on a climax.

FIRST READING    Acts 5:27-33

Of all this we are witnesses, but also the Holy Spirit.

From the Acts of the Apostles

In those days, the servants of the Commander-in-Chief
were taken away the apostles and brought them before the Sanhedrin.
The high priest began to question them :
“Have we not expressly forbidden you
teaching in that Name?
“By your doing all Jerusalem is full of your teaching.
“Moreover, you want to charge us with the blood of that man.”
But Peter and the other apostles replied :
“One must obey God more than men.
“The God of our fathers raised Jesus to life,
on whom you have offended
by beating Him on the cross.

“God has exalted him as Guide and Savior
at his right hand
to bring repentance
and remission of sins.
“Of all this we are witnesses,
but also the Holy Spirit
whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
When they heard this, they flew into a rage
and decided to kill them.

INTERLUDIUM   Ps. 34(33), 2, 9, 17-18, 19-20

Those who cry out in distress, to them the Lord listens.
or : Alleluia.

The Lord I will praise every day,
his praise is always on my lips.
Pay attention and notice how gracious the Lord is,
happy is he who seeks his salvation in Him.

From evildoers He turns away his face,
they are forgotten on earth.
To the pious who cry the Lord listens
and rescues them from every need.

The Lord is near to sorrowful hearts,
He helps those who acknowledge their guilt.
Many disasters will threaten the pious,
from each of them the Lord rescues him.

ALLELUIA

Alleluia.
He who called everything into existence
and has mercy on us, his people,
He is risen, Christ the Lord!
Alleluia.

GOSPEL        John 3, 31-36

The Father loves the Son and has given Him everything.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

At that time Jesus said to Nicodemus :
“He who comes from above
is above all.
“He who is of the earth
belongs to the earth and speaks the language of the earth.
“He who comes from heaven is above all.
“He bears witness to what He saw and heard,
yet no one accepts his testimony.
“Those who do accept his testimony
seals that God is true.
“For He Who is sent by God
speaks God’s own words :
So immoderately does God bestow his Spirit.
“The Father loves the Son
and has given Him everything in his hands.
“He who believes in the Son has eternal life.
“Whoever refuses to believe in the Son will not see life,
on the contrary, the wrath of God remains on him.”

Laudato Si

Encyclic of

POPE FRANCIS

On the care of the common home

145. Many forms of intense exploitation and environmental degradation can deplete not only local livelihoods, but also social resources that have allowed a way of life that has long supported a cultural identity and a sense of existence and coexistence. The disappearance of a culture can be as serious or more serious than the disappearance of an animal or plant species. The imposition of a hegemonic lifestyle linked to a mode of production can be as harmful as the degradation of ecosystems.
