Twenty-sixth Sunday through the year

Boek met kaars 40

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one except,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Opening word

Today, too, God’s Word takes us on a journey
that the mind of Christ may dwell among us.
It is the way of righteousness, of love, of unity.
Sometimes our path of life goes against that direction
or not straight to that goal.
Sometimes our path deviates from the given word:
We say ‘yes’, we do ‘no’.
On this Sunday, God’s Word reminds us
that God does not turn away from us even then.
God invites, again and again,
to the reversal and repentance
that will lead our lives anew along his paths.

FIRST READING.             18, 25-28
If the wicked turn from his evil deeds, he will remain alive.

From the prophet Ezekiel

This saith the Lord:

“Ye claim, The way of the Lord is not straight!
“House of Israel, do listen!
“Would it really be my way that is not straight?
“Are not rather thy own ways not straight?
“If a righteous person turns away from his righteousness
and goes about doing evil ,
then he will die to it,
die because of the evil he has done.

“And if the evildoer
turns away from his evil deeds
and starts acting according to righteousness and virtue,
then he will live.
“If he comes to understanding
and turns away from his evil deeds,
then he will surely remain alive,
then he will not die.”

Responsorial    Ps. 25(24), 4bc-5, 6-7, 8-9

Refrain
Remember your mercy, Lord.

Teach me to know your paths.
Guide me according to Your Word,
For Thou art my God and Redeemer.
In Thee do I always put my hope.

Remember Your mercy, Lord,
Thy ever bestowed mercy.
Remember not the evil of my youth,
but remember me with mercy.

The Lord is good and righteous,
therefore He shows sinners the way.
He leads the humble along honourable paths,
He teaches the simple what to do.

SECOND READING                  Phil. 2:1-11 or 1-5
That mind must reign among you which inspired Christ Jesus.

From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of Philippi

Brothers and sisters,

If exhortation in Christ and loving encouragement
something ability,
if fellowship in Spirit,
if cordiality and compassion say something to you,
then make my joy complete
by your unity of thought,
your unity in love,
your togetherness and unanimity.
Do not indulge in partisanship and vanity,
but in humility consider the other higher than yourself.
Let no one promote only his own interests,
but rather that of his neighbour.
This attitude must reign among you
that also animated Christ Jesus.

He who existed in divine majesty,
did not want to cling
to equality with God.
He stripped himself
and took on the existence of a slave.
He became equal to men.
And appearing as man
He humbled Himself
by becoming obedient to death,
to death on a cross.
Therefore God exalted Him on high
and granted Him the name
which is above all names.
So that at the mention of His name
every knee would bow
in heaven, on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue would confess
to the glory of God, the Father:
Jesus Christ is Lord.

Verse for the gospel        John 10, 27

Alleluia.
My sheep listen to My voice, says the Lord,
and I know them and they follow Me.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                 Mt 21:28-32

He was sorry and went anyway. Toll collectors and fornicating women enter the kingdom of God before you do.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew

At that time Jesus said
to the high priests and the elders of the people:

“What think ye of the following?
“A man had two sons.
“He went to the first one and said:
My son, go and work in my vineyard today.
“Good father – replied this one – but he did not do it.
“Then he went to the second and said the same thing.
“This one replied: nay, I will not;
but later he regretted it and went anyway.
“Now which of the two did his father’s will?”

They answered:
“The latter”.

Then Jesus said to them:
“Verily, I say to you:
The tax collectors and fornicators will enter before you
enter the kingdom of God.
“John came to you and practised righteousness;
yet ye gave him no faith,
while the tax collectors and fornicators
did give him faith.
“But even after thou hadst seen this,
yet you did not repent
and did not give him faith.”

Second chapter  The Gospel of Creation

62. Why do we include a chapter on beliefs in this document, which is addressed to all people of good will? I am aware that in the field of politics and thought, some people vigorously reject the idea of a Creator or hold it for irrelevance, relegating to the realm of the irrational the wealth that religions can offer for an integral ecology and the full development of the human race. Other times, they presume these constitute a subculture that must simply be tolerated. However, science and religion, which offer different approaches to reality, can engage in an intensive and mutually productive dialogue.
