Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Consideration
In the Church, we do not proclaim on our own, but together. When we celebrate Eucharist together, the Church is born anew each time. For Mark, the proclaimer of faith is not an advertiser touting a product that will sell well if it works: he is someone who leaves combative, convinced that he can overcome anything. He is called to make the world a better, more just, fraternal place. He must make sense of human existence, he must convert and heal: for are these not the signs par excellence that the kingdom is coming ? Where are we on that road ?

FIRST READING                         I Kings 2:1-4. 10-12
I go the way of all that is earthly.
Be strong, Solomon, and show that you are a man.

From the first Book of Kings

As David’s end approached,
he committed the following to his son Solomon’s heart :
“I will go the way of all that is earthly.
“Be strong and show that you are a man.
Walk his ways and keep his laws,
commandments, precepts and ordinances,
as is written in the law of Moses.
“Then you will succeed in everything you do and undertake.
“Then the Lord will fulfil the word
That He has spoken to me :
If your sons are faithful ,
with all their heart and all their soul, walk in my ways,
then you will never lack descendants
on the throne of Israel.”

Then David went to rest with his ancestors
and was buried in the city of David.
Forty years David had reigned over Israel ;
At Hebron he had reigned seven years
and at Jerusalem thirty-three years.
Solomon sat on his father’s throne
and his kingship became more and more firmly established.

INTERLUDIUM                  Chron. 29, 10, 11ab, 11cd, 12ab, 12cd

All that exists, Lord, turn to your command.

Thou art praised, Lord, in all ages,
Thou God of our father Israel.

Great art Thou in Thy deeds, supreme,
exalted, glorious and highly honoured.

For all things in heaven and on earth are Thine,
Thou art the King, Lord, who art above all things.

From Thee come prestige and possession,
all that exists turns to Thy command.

Thou canst dispose of skill and powers,
what is great and strong Thou hast made so.

ALLELUIA                 Ps. 119(118), 34

Alleluia.
Give me understanding to observe Your law, Lord,
to follow it with all my heart.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                   Mk. 6, 7-13
Jesus began sending out the 12 two by two.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark

At that time
Jesus called the twelve to himself
and began to send them out two by two.
He gave them power over the unclean spirits
and forbade them
to carry anything for the journey other than just a stick :
no food, no travelling bag, no copper money in their belts.
“Well may you wear sandals ,
but do not put on double clothing.”
He further said :
“If you enter a house somewhere ,
stay there until you leave again.
“And if there is a place where you are not received
and does not listen to you,
leave there
and shake the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.”
They left to preach repentance.
They drove out many devils,
anointed many sick with oil and healed them.

Laudato Si

Encyclic of

POPE FRANCIS

On caring for the common home

184. When possible risks to the environment affecting the present and future common good appear, this situation “demands that decisions be based on a comparison between foreseeable risks and benefits for each possible alternative choice”. 1 This is especially true, if a project may mean an increase in natural resource exploitation, emissions and discharges, in waste generation, either a significant change in the landscape, in the habitat of protected species or in a public space. Some projects, unsupported by accurate analysis, can deeply affect the quality of life of a place through interrelated issues such as, for example, unforeseen acoustic pollution, impairment of visibility, loss of cultural values, the effects of the use of nuclear energy. The consumerist culture, which prefers the short term and private interest, may promote too quick procedures or allow the withholding of information.
