Pentecost commemorates the descending or outpouring of the Holy Spirit on earth.
Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day
Opening word
For fifty days we celebrated
to our wonder, our hope and joy
that Jesus has conquered death
and is alive among us.
Today too, Easter joy reverberates after.
There is no reason to feel lonely and lost.
On the contrary, the Spirit permeates all that lives
and ignites in the heart of every human being
the spark of his warm love.
FIRST READING Acts 2:1-11
They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they began to speak.
From the Acts of the Apostles
When the day of Pentecost dawned,
all were gathered in the same place.
Suddenly from heaven came
a rumbling as if a violent wind had started up
and all the house where they were seated was full of it.
Something resembling fire appeared to them
and, divided into tongues, settled on each of them.
They were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and they began to speak in foreign languages,
according to what the Spirit gave them to interpret.
Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem,
pious men
who came from every nation under heaven.
When that sound arose, these ran in haste
and to their amazement
everyone heard them speaking in their language.
They were beside themselves and said in amazement:
“But then are all those speaking there not Galileans?
“Then how is it
that every one of us hears them speaking
in his own mother tongue ?
“Parten, Medes and Elamites,
inhabitants of Mesopotamia, of Judea and Cappadocia,
of Pontus and Asia,
of Phrygia and Pamphylia,
Egypt and the area of Libya near Cyrene,
the Romans residing here,
Jews as well as proselytes,
Cretans and Arabs,
we hear them speaking in our own language of God’s great deeds.”
Responsorial Ps 104(103), 1ab and 24ac, 29bc-30, 31 and 34
Refrain
Send your spirit
And make your creation new again.
Glorify, my soul, the Lord,
How great art Thou, Lord my God!
How much is it that Thou hast done, Lord,
the earth is full of Thy creatures.
Do Thou take away their spirit, they perish,
And return to the earth.
But send Thou Thy spirit, then life comes again,
then Thou wilt make Thy creation new again.
The glory of the Lord abides forever,
He finds His joy in all His creatures.
May my words be pleasing to Him,
then I will rejoice in the Lord.
SECOND READING 1 Cor. 12, 3b-7.12-13
In one and the same Spirit, we have become one single body through baptism.
From the holy apostle Paul’s first letter to the
Christians of Corinth
Brothers and sisters,
No one can say:
“Jesus is Lord”
unless by the Holy Spirit.
There are several gifts but only one Spirit.
There are many forms of service
but only one Lord.
There are all kinds of work
but there is only one God
Who brings about everything in all.
But to each of us
is communicated the revelation of the Spirit
for the good of all.
The human body, with its many limbs, forms one whole;
all the limbs, however many, together form one body.
So it is also with Christ.
All of us, Jews and Greeks, slaves and free,
in the power of one and the same Spirit
became one body through baptism
and all of us were watered with one Spirit.
Sequence
Come, O Spirit of the Lord, come
from the heavenly sanctuary,
where thou standest before God’s face.
Come comfort the poor, descend,
come and bestow thy gifts, Lord,
come, be light in hearts.
Come, O comforter, Holy Spirit,
softness that heals the soul,
come, refreshment sweet and mild.
Come, O peace in battle,
Relief for the heart that suffers,
Peace that stills all unrest.
Light that is full of blessing,
shine in our darkness,
take the hearts before Thee.
Without Your secret glow
there is no good in man,
the soul is not pure in sense.
Wash what is dirty and unclean,
flood our barren domain,
heal the soul that is wounded,
soften again what has hardened,
cherish the chilled heart,
lead those who have not found their own way.
Give your gifts sevenfold
every one who trusts in Thee,
rely completely on You.
Assist us with Your love,
that our end may be blessed,
give us joy that will not perish.
Verse for the Gospel
Alleluia
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your believers
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Jn 20:19-23
As the Father has sent Me, so I send you: receive the Holy Spirit.
From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John
In the evening of the first day of the week ,
when the doors of the disciples’ abode
were closed for fear of the Jews,
Jesus entered,
stood in their midst and said:
“Peace be with you.”
Having said this
He showed them His hands and His side.
The disciples
were filled with joy when they saw the Lord.
Once again Jesus said to them:
“Peace be unto you.
“As the Father has sent Me ,
so I send you.”
After these words, He blew on them and said:
“Receive the Holy Spirit.
“If ye forgive any man sins ,
then they are forgiven,
and if ye forgive them not
they are not forgiven.”

APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION LAUDATE DEUM
FROM THE HOLY FATHER
POPE FRANCISCUS
TO ALL PEOPLE
OF GOOD WILL
43. All this presupposes the development of a new procedure for decision-making and
legitimising those decisions, since the procedure introduced several decades ago
introduced is neither sufficient nor seems effective. In this context, there would
necessarily require spaces for conversation, consultation, arbitration, conflict resolution and
monitoring, and ultimately some kind of increased ‘democratisation’ in the global context,
so that different situations can be expressed and can be
incorporated. It is no longer useful for us to support institutions that uphold the rights of
the powerful without caring for the rights of all.
