Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Consideration
It is a curious question, the threefold question to Peter. It clearly recalls his threefold denial. Even more curious is the threefold answer: Peter has given up all self-confidence. Finally, he is given the task that Jesus himself had taken up: to be shepherd of the sheep. He takes over that task, and if we understand the Good Shepherd analogy, we know that this is not a task to rule, but to shepherd, to lead, to care, to know by name. Isn’t that the task of every human being ? How do I fulfil this task, in my daily life ?

FIRST READING        Acts 25:13-21
Jesus is dead, says Festus, but Paul claims He is alive.

From the Acts of the Apostles

In those days King Agrippa and Bernike came to Caesarea
and made their appearance before Festus.
During their stay there, which lasted several days
festus presented the case of Paul to the king
with the words :
“Felix has left a prisoner here
against whom the high priests and the elders of the Jews
brought charges against him
when I was in Jerusalem,
asking them to condemn him.
“I gave them to understand,
that the Romans are not in the habit
to extradite someone by way of favour,
before the accused has faced his accusers
and has had an opportunity
to defend himself against the charge.
“So they came here
and without delay I held court the next day
and I had the man arraigned.
“When the prosecutors stood around him ,
they brought no charges of crimes
that I had counted on.
“However, they did have certain issues against him
concerning their own faith
and about a certain Jesus,
who is dead,
but whom Paul claimed was alive.
“Since I did not know any way with the examination of these things ,
i asked him to go to Jerusalem
to stand trial there in this matter.
“But Paul appealed
and therefore wanted until His Majesty’s verdict
be kept in custody.
“Therefore I have given orders to keep him in custody
until I can send him to the emperor.”

INTERLUDIO          Ps. 10(102), 1-2, 11-12, 19-20ab

The Lord has established his throne in heaven.

Glorify, my soul, the Lord,
his holy Name from the depths of thy being !
Glorify, my soul, the Lord,
forget not his benefits !

As wide as heaven spans the earth,
so all-encompassing is His mercy.
As far as the distance from east to west,
so far from us He drives sin.

The Lord has established His throne in heaven,
He rules the universe.
Glorify the Lord, all His heavenly messengers,
mighty executors of His command.

ALLELUIA           Mt 28:1 and 20

Alleluia.
Go and make all nations my disciples ;
I am with you all the days until the consummation of the world.
Alleluia.

EVANGELY              Jn 21:15-19
Pasture my lambs, shepherd my sheep.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

When Jesus had appeared to His disciples ,
after breakfast, He said to Simon Peter :
“Simon, son of John,
do you love Me more than these love Me?”
He replied :
“Yes Lord, Thou knowest that I love Thee.”
Jesus told him :
“Pasture My lambs.”
A second time He said to him :
“Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”
And this one answered :
“Yes Lord, Thou knowest that I love Thee.”
Jesus resumed :
“Shepherd My sheep.”
For the third time He asked :
“Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”
Now Peter was grieved,
because for the third time He asked him :
Do you love Me?” and he said to Him :
“Lord, Thou knowest all things ; Thou knowest that I love Thee.”
Thereupon Jesus told him :
“Pasture My sheep.
“Verily, verily, I say unto thee :
When thou wast young,
thou didst put thy girdle upon thyself and went whithersoever thou wouldest,
but when thou art old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands,
another shall girdle thee and take thee whither thou wilt not.”
With this He alluded to death
through which he would glorify God.
And after these words, He told him :
“Follow Me.”

Laudato Si

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

About care for the common house

My appeal
13. The urgent challenge to protect our common home
includes the concern to unite the whole human family in the
search for sustainable and integral development, as we know
that things can change. The Creator does not abandon us,
He does not take a step back in His plan of love. He does not regret
that He created us. Humanity still has the ability to work together
to work together to build our common home. I want to express my appreciation
expression, encourage and thank all those who work in the
most diverse sectors of human activity to work for the
protection of the home we share. A special
gratitude deserves all those who fight vigorously to prevent the dramatic
consequences of environmental degradation in the lives of the poorest
in the world. Young people are demanding change from us. They
wonder how it is possible to pretend to build a better
future without thinking about the environmental crisis and the suffering of
those who are left out.
