Consideration
The brothers Cyril and Methodius (9th century) laid the foundations of the faith of the Slavic peoples. Their preaching shows us how the Good News can unite people across all borders and cultural differences. Today, so many centuries later, this mission remains relevant. The European Church is facing a new evangelisation. God now wants to use us to re-Christianise society from its very foundations, as the first Christians did and as so many generations have continued to do since then. Without giving up our place in our profession and family! How much good we can do! To this end, we must lead a life of living faith, taking care every day to make time for prayer, in which we personally interact with Him whom we know loves us. This is a task that concerns us all: let us make it easier for others to find the path that leads to an encounter with Christ. (John Paul II)
FIRST READING Acts 13, 46-49
From now on we will address the Gentiles.
From the Acts of the Apostles
In those days Paul and Barnabas said to the Jews:
“It was necessary that the word of God be spokentoyou first,
but since you reject it
and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life,
we will now turn to the Gentiles.
“For thus says the Lord to us:
I have set you as a light to the Gentiles,
that you may bring salvation
to the ends of the earth.”
When the Gentiles heard this,
they rejoiced and glorified the word of God,
and all who were destined for eternal life
accepted the faith.
The word of the Lord spread throughout that region.
INTERLUDIO Ps . 117(116), 1, 2
Go out into the whole world
and proclaim the gospel to all creation.
(Mk 16:15)
or: Alleluia.
Praise the Lord, all nations of the earth,
honour the Lord, all peoples around.
For He has shown us His goodness;
the Lord’s faithfulness endures forever.
ALLELUIA Lk. 4, 18-19
Alleluia.
The Lord has sent me
to bring the Good News to the poor,
to proclaim liberty to captives.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Lk. 10, 1-9
The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few;
From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke
At that time, the Lord appointed seventy-two disciples
and sent them out two by two ahead of him
to every town and place
where he himself intended to go.
He said to them:
“The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few.
“Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore,
to send out labourers into his harvest.
“Go, then,
but see, I send you out as lambs among wolves.
“Carry no purse, no bag, no shoes,
and greet no one on the road.
“Whatever house you enter, let your first words be:
‘Peace be to this house!’
“If a peaceful person lives there,
your peace will rest on him;
if not, it will return to you.
“Stay in that house and eat and drink what they offer you,
for the labourer is worthy of his wages.
“Do not go from house to house.
“In every town where you enter and are welcomed,
eat what is set before you, heal the sick who are there,
and say to them: The Kingdom of God is near you.”

Laudato Si
Encyclical of
POPE FRANCIS
On Care for Our Common Home
28. Clean drinking water is a matter of primary importance, because it is
indispensable for human life and for maintaining land and water ecosystems.
Freshwater sources supply the sectors of
health care, agriculture and industry. The availability of water has remained relatively constant for a long time, but now in many places demand exceeds sustainable supply, with serious short- and long-term consequences. Large cities, which depend on significant water reserves, suffer from periods of scarcity of this resource, which is not always managed adequately and impartially at critical moments.
The lack of public water for everyone is particularly evident in Africa,
where large sections of the population have no access to safe drinking water
or suffer from periods of drought that hamper food production. In some countries, there are regions with an
abundance of water, while others suffer from a severe shortage.
