 Invitation

May I draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation is intended to share with you the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception,
can experience that joy by opening their heart
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Consideration

Why is it so difficult for us to forgive? Could it have something to do with the fact that we strive for perfection? We are expected to use the Lord’s measure in our interactions with one another. That is the measure of love. God does not weigh things up first; He knows that we need time to learn. Do we allow each other that time?

FIRST READING                 Dan. 9, 4b-10

We have sinned and done wrong.

From the Prophet Daniel

O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant and shows mercy to those who love him and keep his commandments:
We have sinned and done wrong,
we have acted wickedly and been rebellious,
we have strayed from your commandments and laws;
we have not listened to your servants, the prophets,
who spoke in your name to our kings,
dignitaries, heads of families,
and to all the settled population of the land.
Lord, You are in Your right,
but we have reason to be ashamed,
and we are now ashamed,
we, the men of Judah,
the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel,
both those who live near and those who live far away
in the countries where you have cast them out
because they were unfaithful to you.
Lord, we must be ashamed, we, our kings,
our dignitaries and our family heads,
because we have sinned against you.
May the Lord our God be merciful and forgiving,
for we have been rebellious against him
and have not listened to the Lord our God
and have not lived according to the commandments he gave us
through his servants, the prophets.

INTERLUDIUM                  Ps. 79(78), 8, 9, 11, 13

Lord, do not deal with us as we deserve,
do not repay us for our sins. (Ps. 103(102), 10a)

Do not make us pay for our past sins,
meet us with your mercy,
for we are but weak human beings.

Oh help us, God of our salvation, for your Name’s sake,
free us, forgive our sins;
let no one say: Where is their God now?

May the groans of the imprisoned rise up to You,
free with Your power those who are devoted to death.
But we are Your people, Lord, Your own flock,
we will praise You forever,
singing Your praise from generation to generation.

VERSE BEFORE THE GOSPEL                 2  Cor. 6, 2b

Now is the favourable time,
today is the day of salvation.

GOSPEL                     Lk. 6, 36-38

Speak freely and you will be acquitted.

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
“Do not judge,
and you will not be judged.
“Do not condemn,
and you will not be judged.
“Speak freely
and you will be acquitted.
“Give
and you will be given:
A good, pressed, shaken and overflowing measure
will be poured into your lap.
“The measure you use
will also be used for you.”

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCIS

On Care for Our Common Home

44. Today, for example, we see the excessive and disorderly growth of many cities, which have become unliveable from a health perspective, not only because of the pollution caused by the emission of toxic substances, but also because of the chaos in the cities, the problems with transport and the visual and acoustic pollution.
Many cities are large, inefficient structures that consume excessive amounts of water and energy. There are neighbourhoods that, although recently built, have become congested and disorderly, without any sense of community. Many cities are large, inefficient structures that consume excessive amounts of water and energy. There are neighbourhoods that, although recently built, have become congested and disorderly, without sufficient green space.
It is not right that the inhabitants of this planet should increasingly live surrounded by concrete, asphalt, glass and metal, without physical contact with nature.
