Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
De lezing van vandaag is zo belangrijk omdat God zijn naam bekend maakt aan Mozes. Deze naam, Jahweh, komt in het Oude Testament meer dan 6800 keer voor, maar wordt alleen hier verklaard. God is degene die er is, die er altijd zal zijn voor zijn volk. De verklaring staat aan het begin van de uittocht, het grote heilsfeit van het volk van Israël. Telkens opnieuw wordt in de boeken van het Oud Testament naar de uittocht verwezen als een daad van God waardoor de geschiedenis van Israël begint en waarop alle religieuze verplichtingen van het volk van Israël tegenover God gebaseerd zijn.
EERSTE LEZING Ex. 3, 13-20
Ik ben die is.
Hij-is zendt mij tot u.
Uit het boek Exodus
Toen Mozes de stem van God had gehoord
in het vuur dat opvlamde uit een doornstruik,
sprak hij opnieuw tot God:
“Als ik nu bij de Israëlieten kom en hun zeg:
De God van uw vaderen zendt mij tot u, en zij vragen:
Hoe is zijn naam?, wat moet ik dan antwoorden?”
Toen sprak God tot Mozes:
“Ik ben die is.”
En ook:
“Dit moet gij de Israëlieten zeggen:
Hij – is, zendt mij tot u.”
Bovendien zei God tot Mozes:
“Dit moet ge de Israëlieten zeggen:
De HEER, de God van uw vaderen, de God van Abraham,
de God van Isaäk en de God van Jakob, zendt mij tot u.
Dit is mijn naam voor altijd.
Zo moet men Mij aanspreken, alle geslachten door.
Ga nu op weg, roep de oudsten van Israël bijeen
en zeg hun: de HEER, de God van uw vaderen, is mij verschenen,
de God van Abraham, Isaäk en Jakob, met deze boodschap:
Ik draag zorg voor u,
want Ik zie wat men u in Egypte aandoet.
Daarom heb Ik besloten:
Ik zal u uit de ellende van Egypte wegvoeren
naar het land van de Kanaänieten, Hethieten, Amorieten,
Perizzieten en Jebusieten, een land van melk en honing.
Zij zullen luisteren naar wat gij zegt.
Dan moet ge met de oudsten van Israël
naar de koning van Egypte gaan en hem zeggen:
De HEER, de God van de Hebreeën, vraagt ons
een maaltijd voor Hem te houden.
Laat ons daarom drie dagreizen ver de woestijn ingaan
om offers op te dragen aan de HEER onze God.
Ik weet dat de koning van Egypte u niet zal laten vertrekken,
als geen sterke hand hem dwingt.
Daarom zal Ik mijn hand opheffen en Egypte treffen
met allerlei wondertekenen die Ik er zal verrichten.
Dan zal hij u wel laten gaan.”

Voor eeuwig blijft Gods verbond van kracht.

Verheerlijkt de Heer en aanbidt zijn Naam,
verkondigt de volken zijn daden.

zijn tekenen en zijn beloften.
Voor eeuwig blijft zijn verbond van kracht,
wat Hij beloofd heeft voor duizend geslachten.
De bond die Hij vroeger met Abraham sloot,
de eed die Hij Isaäk eens heeft gezworen.
De Heer vormde zich een talrijk volk
dat sterker werd dan zijn verdrukkers.
Hij liet hun gastvrijheid omslaan in haat,
zodat zij zijn volk bedrogen.
Toen zond Hij zijn dienaar Mozes naar hen
met Aäron die Hij had uitverkoren.
Zij lieten de tekenen zien van de Heer,

Ik ben zachtmoedig en nederig van hart.
In die tijd nam Jezus het woord en sprak:
“Komt allen tot Mij die uitgeput zijt en onder lasten gebukt,
en Ik zal u rust en verlichting schenken.
Neemt mijn juk op uw schouders en leert van Mij:
Ik ben zachtmoedig en nederig van hart;
en gij zult rust vinden voor uw zielen,
want mijn juk is zacht en mijn last is licht.”

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis
235. Op een bevoorrechte wijze wordt in de sacramenten de natuur door God aangenomen en veranderd om het bovennatuurlijke leven te bemiddelen. Door de eredienst worden wij uitgenodigd de wereld op een ander niveau te omarmen. Water, olie, vuur en kleuren worden met heel hun symbolische kracht aanvaard en opgenomen in de lofprijzing. De zegenende hand is een instrument van de liefde van God en weerspiegeling van de nabijheid van Christus, die is gekomen om ons te begeleiden op onze levensweg. Het water dat bij het doopsel over het lichaam van het kind wordt uitgegoten, is teken van nieuw leven. Wij ontvluchten de wereld niet, noch negeren wij de natuur, wanneer wij God willen ontmoeten. Dit kan men in het bijzonder ontdekken in de spiritualiteit van het christelijke Oosten: “De schoonheid, een van de meest geliefde termen in het Oosten om de goddelijke harmonie en het model van de verheerlijkte mensheid te verwoorden, wordt overal zichtbaar: in de vormgeving van kerkgebouwen, in klanken, kleuren, lichten en geuren”. Naar christelijke overtuiging vinden alle schepselen van het heelal hun ware zin in het vleesgeworden Woord, omdat Gods Zoon in zijn persoon een deel van het heelal heeft opgenomen, doordat Hij in het heelal een kiem van definitieve omkering heeft gelegd: “Het christendom staat niet afwijzend tegenover de materie, de lichamelijkheid, het laat deze integendeel geheel tot haar recht komen in het liturgisch handelen waarin het menselijk lichaam toont ten diepste tempel van de Heilige Geest te zijn en waarin het zich verenigt met Jezus de Heer, die ook een lichaam heeft aangenomen voor het heil van de wereld”.

Consideration
Today’s reading is so important because God makes his name known to Moses. This name, Yahweh, appears over 6800 times in the Old Testament, but is only explained here. God is the one who is there, who will always be there for his people. The declaration stands at the beginning of the exodus, the great salvation event of the people of Israel. Again and again, the Old Testament books refer to the exodus as an act of God through which Israel’s history begins and on which all the religious obligations of the people of Israel towards God are based.
FIRST READING Ex. 3, 13-20
I am who am.
He-is sending me to you.
From the Book of Exodus
When Moses had heard the voice of God
in the fire that flamed up from a thorn bush,
he spoke again to God:
“Now when I come to the Israelites and say to them:
The God of your fathers sends me to you, and they ask:
What is his name, what shall I answer?”
Then God spoke to Moses:
“I am that am.”
And also:
“This you must say to the Israelites:
He – is, send me to you.”
Moreover, God said to Moses:
“This you must say to the Israelites:
The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham,
the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, send me to you.
This is my name for ever.
This is how I am to be called throughout all generations.
Now go and call the elders of Israel together,
and say unto them: The LORD the God of your fathers hath appeared unto me,
the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, with this message:
I will take care of you,
for I see what they do to you in Egypt.

On Care of the Common Home
235. In a privileged way, in the sacraments, nature is accepted and changed by God to mediate the supernatural life. Through worship we are invited to embrace the world on another level. Water, oil, fire and colours are accepted with all their symbolic power and included in the praise. The hand of blessing is an instrument of God’s love and a reflection of the nearness of Christ, who has come to accompany us on our life’s journey. The water poured over the body of the child at baptism is a sign of new life. We do not flee the world, nor do we ignore nature, when we want to meet God. This can be discovered in particular in the spirituality of the Christian East: “Beauty, one of the most popular terms in the East to express divine harmony and the model of glorified humanity, is visible everywhere: in the design of church buildings, in sounds, colours, lights and scents”. According to Christian conviction, all the creatures of the universe find their true meaning in the incarnate Word, because the Son of God, in his person, has taken up a part of the universe, by planting in the universe a seed of definitive inversion: “Christianity does not reject matter, corporeality; on the contrary, it allows it to come fully into its own in the liturgical act in which the human body shows itself to be at its most profoundly the temple of the Holy Spirit and in which it unites itself with Jesus the Lord, who also took on a body for the salvation of the world”.
