Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
In het visioen van gisteren en vandaag ziet men heel duidelijk het apocalyptische genre dat verschilt van het profetisch genre. Profeten spreken van Godswege op de boze mensen in, opdat ze zich zouden bekeren en daardoor een verandering ten goede zou optreden. Ze dreigen en waarschuwen voor hetgeen zal gebeuren indien men zich niet bekeert. Apocalyps verwacht niets meer van menselijke bekering. De tijd is rijp, de maat is vol. God zelf grijpt in en vestigt zijn Rijk. Het is de Hoogbejaarde die tussenkomt. Mysterieus is de figuur van de Mensenzoon die op de wolken aankomt (gisteren) en aan wie de Hoogbejaarde heerschappij geeft. Het is juist deze titel die Jezus telkens in de mond neemt wat niet zonder betekenis is voor zijn zending en zijn persoon.
EERSTE LEZING Dan. 7, 15-27
Het koningschap, de heerschappij en de luister
zal gegeven worden
aan het volk van de heiligen van de Allerhoogste.
Uit de Profeet Daniël
In die dagen sprak Daniël :
“Bij het visioen dat ik zag verkeerde ik inwendig in verwarring
en de beelden die door mijn hoofd gingen, verontrustten mij.
“Ik trad op een der aanwezigen toe
en vroeg hem naar de juiste betekenis van dat alles.
“Hij gaf mij de volgende verklaring.
“De vier grote dieren zijn vier koningen
die op aarde zullen regeren ;
daarna zullen de heiligen van de Allerhoogste
het koningschap ontvangen
en ze zullen het voor altijd,
van eeuwigheid tot eeuwigheid bezitten.”
Toen wilde ik de betekenis weten van het vierde beest,
dat van alle andere verschilde,
buitengewoon vreeswekkend was,
tanden van ijzer had en klauwen van brons,
dat vrat en vermaalde,
en wat het overliet met zijn poten vertrapte;
en wat de tien horens op zijn kop beduidden
en de elfde, die opschoot en waardoor er drie uitvielen ;
die horen had ogen en een mond vol grootspraak
en zag er groter uit dan de andere.
In mijn visioen zag ik dat die horen strijd voerde
met de heiligen en hen overweldigde,
zodat de Hoogbejaarde kwam
en recht verschaft werd aan de heiligen van de Allerhoogste
en de tijd aanbrak
dat de heiligen het koningschap in bezit namen.
Toen zei mij iemand het volgende :
“Het vierde beest is een vierde koninkrijk,
dat op aarde zal bestaan ;
het zal van alle andere rijken verschillen ;
heel de aarde zal het verslinden, vertrappen en verpletteren.
“De tien horens zijn tien koningen,
die uit dat rijk zullen voortkomen
en na hen komt er nog een elfde,
die van de vorigen zal verschillen
en drie koningen ten val zal brengen.
“Hij zal zich tegen de Allerhoogste richten,
de heiligen van de Allerhoogste mishandelen
en er op uit zijn feesttijden en wet te veranderen.
“En de heiligen van de Allerhoogste
zullen aan zijn macht zijn overgeleverd.
“Het gerechtshof zal plaats nemen
en men zal hem de heerschappij ontnemen
en hem voor goed te gronde richten en vernietigen.
“Dan zal het koningschap,
de heerschappij en de luister van al de rijken onder de hemel
gegeven worden
aan het volk van de heiligen van de Allerhoogste.
“Zijn koningschap is een eeuwig koningschap
en alle machten zullen Hem dienen en gehoorzamen.”

want die dag zal komen over allen, waar ook ter wereld.
“Weest dus te allen tijde waakzaam en bidt
dat ge in staat moogt zijn te ontkomen
aan al die dingen die zich gaan voltrekken,
en dat ge stand moogt houden
voor het aangezicht van de Mensenzoon.”

CONSIDERATION
In the vision of yesterday and today we see very clearly the apocalyptic genre as distinct from the prophetic genre. Prophets speak from God’s side to the evil people, so that they will repent and a change for the better will occur. They threaten and warn of what will happen if people do not repent. Apocalypse expects nothing more of human conversion. The time is ripe, the measure is full. God himself intervenes and establishes his Kingdom. It is the High Elder who intervenes. Mysterious is the figure of the Son of Man who arrives on the clouds (yesterday) and to whom the Senior Citizen gives dominion. It is precisely this title that Jesus repeatedly uses, which is not without significance for his mission and his person.
FIRST READING Dan. 7, 15-27
The kingship, the dominion and the glory
shall be given
to the people of the saints of the Most High.
From the Prophet Daniel
In those days Daniel spoke :
“At the vision that I saw, I was inwardly confused, and the images
that passed through my mind troubled me.
“I went up to one of those present
and asked him the true meaning of it all.
“He gave me the following explanation.
“The four great animals are four kings
who will reign on earth ;
afterwards, the saints of the Most High
will receive the kingship
and they shall possess it for ever,
from eternity to eternity.”
Then I wanted to know the meaning of the fourth beast,
which was different from all the others,
was extraordinarily fearsome,
had teeth of iron and claws of bronze,
which ate and crushed,
and trampled down what was left with its feet;
and what were the ten horns upon its head?
And the eleventh, which sprang up and caused three to fall out ;
that horn had eyes and a mouth full of boastfulness
and was taller than the others.
In my vision I saw that the horn waged war
with the saints and overwhelmed them,
so that the High Elder came
and justice was done to the saints of the Most High
and the time came
when the saints took the kingship.
Then someone said to me the following :
“The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom ,
which will exist on the earth ;
it will be different from all other kingdoms ;
it will devour, trample and crush all the earth.
“The ten horns are ten kings ,
who shall come forth of that kingdom
and after them shall come an eleventh,
who shall differ from the former
and shall overthrow three kings.
“He shall set himself against the Most High,
abusing the saints of the Most High
and shall set about to change his times and his law.
“And the saints of the Most High
shall be delivered unto his power.
“The tribunal shall sit
and they will take away his dominion
and bring him to ruin and destroy him.
“Then the kingship,
the dominion and the glory of all the empires under heaven
be given
to the people of the saints of the Most High.
“His kingship is an everlasting kingship
and all the powers shall serve and obey Him.”
