Wednesday for revelation

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every morning from 7 a.m.

Consideration

The most important phrase in today’s gospel is: ‘and he brought him to Jesus’. That simple addition is today’s message. If we have met Jesus, we should also show Him to others, also bring others to Him, because we also grant these others found happiness. That is the joy of this special time, the Christmas season. We commemorate the incarnation of God’s Son, and we can also make others curious about the source of joy we have discovered in Christ.

FIRST READING       I  John 3, 7-10

A child of God cannot sin because he is born of God.

From the first letter of the holy apostle John

Children,
do not be deceived :
He who does good is holy like the Son of God ;
he who sins is a child of the devil
for the devil sins from the beginning,
and the Son of God has come precisely
to undo the devil’s work.
A child of God does not sin
for the divine germ of life remains active in him ;
he cannot even sin
for he is born of God.
By this one can distinguish the children of God
and the children of the devil :
He who does not do good
is not God’s child,
least of all he who does not love his brother.

INTERLUDIUM           Ps. 98(97), 1, 7-8, 9

Sing to the Lord a new song
because He did wonders.

Sing to the Lord a new song
because He did wonders.
His hand asserted itself mightily,
the power of his holy arm.

The sea agrees with all its beasts,
the earth with all that lives there;
the streams gurgle with acclaim,
the mountains rejoice.

They salute the Lord, who comes near.
Who approaches as king of the earth.
Righteously He rules the world,
the nations with equity.

ALLELUIA

Alleluia.
The splendour of this day is a light around us ;
come all worship the Lord, ye peoples and nations,
for today a great light appeared on earth.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL         Jn 1:35-42

We have found the Messiah.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

At that time John stood there,
with two of his disciples.
He turned his eye to Jesus who was passing by and spoke:
“Behold the Lamb of God.”
The two disciples heard him say this
and went after Jesus.
Jesus turned around
and when He saw that they were following Him, He asked them:
“What do ye desire?”
They said to Him:
“Rabbi!
– translated this means: Master –
where dost Thou reside?”
He said to them:
“Go along to see.”
Thereupon they went along
and saw where He resided.
That day they stayed with Him.
It was about the tenth hour.

Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of those two
who had heard John’s saying
and had gone after Jesus.
The first one he met was his brother Simon
to whom he said:
“We have the Messiah found”,
– which translated means: the Anointed One –
and he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said:
“Thou art Simon the son of John ;
thou shalt be called Cephas,
which means Rock.”

Laudato Si

Encyclic by

POPE FRANCIS

On caring for the common home

40. The oceans contain not only most of the planet’s water, but also most of the wide variety of living creatures, many of which are still unknown to us and threatened by various causes. On the other hand, one can see that life in rivers lakes, seas and oceans, which feed a large portion of the world’s population, is threatened by an uncontrolled extraction from them of fish resources, causing a drastic reduction in some species. People continue to develop selective methods of fishing that discard a large proportion of the species caught. Particularly endangered are marine organisms that we do not take into account, such as certain species of plankton that are a very important link in the marine food chain and on which ultimately depend the species used for human nutrition.
