Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wishes to share with you the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every morning from 7 a.m.

Consideration

It is not two well-defined types of people that the first reading is talking about. The boundary between the children of God and others runs through our own hearts. There are times in our lives when we are children of God, just as there are situations when we seem to be more children of evil. For the former, we thank the Lord; for the latter, we ask for his forgiveness. We are children of God when we meet two criteria: love and righteousness. Jesus asks us to live by these two simple words: love and righteousness.

FIRST READING         Jn 5:14-21

God listens to us when we ask him for something.

From the first letter of the holy apostle John

Friends,

Our trust in God gives us the assurance
that He listens to us
if we ask Him anything in accordance with His will.
And if we know that He listens to all our questions
we can also be sure
that our prayers have already been answered.
If anyone sees his brother commit a sin
that does not lead to death
he should pray for his brother
and God will keep him alive, that is,
if his sin does not kill him.
For there is a sin that leads to death;
for this my exhortation to pray does not apply.
But though every wrong deed is sin
not every sin brings death.
We know that a child of God does not sin ;
the Son of God preserves him
and the evil one has no hold over him.
We know that we belong to God
while the whole world is in the power of the evil one.
We know that the Son of God has come
and that He has given us insight
to know the true God,
and we are in the true God
for we are in Jesus Christ, his Son.
This is the true God, this is eternal life !
Children, beware of false gods.

INTERLUDIUM           Ps. 149, 1-2, 3-4, 5, 6a, 9b

Our Lord, who loves his people,
wreathes the oppressed with wreaths of victory.

Or : Alleluia.

Sing to the Lord a new song,
His praise resounds in the midst of His people.
Israel cheers its Creator,
let Zion’s sons salute their King.

Praise His Name in a holy dance,
play harp and zither before Him.
For our Lord, who loves His people,
wreathes the oppressed with wreaths of victory.

So rejoice, saints, for your triumph,
celebrate in your army places.
Complete to them the judgment of God,
the task that honours his pious ones.

ALLELUIA

Alleluia.
The splendour of this day is a light around us ;
come all worship the Lord, ye peoples and nations,
for today a great light appeared on earth.
Alleluia

GOSPEL                 John 2, 1-12

Jesus begins the signs at Cana and reveals his glory.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee,
at which the mother of Jesus was present.
Jesus and his disciples
were also invited to that wedding.
When the wine ran out
Jesus’ mother said to Him :
“They have no more wine.”
Jesus said to her :
“Woman, is that perhaps your business?
“Yet my hour has not come.”
His mother spoke to the servants :
“Do whatever He will tell you.”
Now according to the cleansing custom of the Jews, there stood there
six stone jars,
each with a capacity of two or three metrets.
Jesus said to them :
“Fill those jars with water.”
They filled them to the top.
Thereupon He said to them :
“Now scoop out some
and bring it to the table master.”
They did so,
and as soon as the table master tasted the water
which had turned into wine
-he did not know where that wine had come from,
but the servants who had scooped the water
knew –
he called the groom and told him :
“Everyone first put out the good wine
and once one has drunk well the lesser.
“You have kept the good wine until now.”
Thus at Cana in Galilee, Jesus made a beginning of signs
and revealed His glory.
And his disciples believed in Him.
Then He descended to Capernaum,
Himself and his mother,
the brethren and his disciples ;
but they stayed there only a few days;

Encyclic of

POPE FRANCIS

On caring for the common home

Decline in the quality of human life and social decay

43. Taking into account that a human being is a creature of this world, with a right to live and be happy, as well as a special dignity, we cannot fail to consider the effects of environmental degradation, the current development model and disposable culture on life.
