Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every morning from 7 a.m.

Consideration
Again, the author quotes masterfully from the Old Testament, namely from Psalm 95: ‘Listen today to his voice’. He adds: speak courage to one another, every day, as long as that ‘present’ lasts. This is a wonderful reference to the liturgical ‘present’ , the ‘hodie’ of the liturgy. It is always ‘now’ in the liturgy. the Word of God was spoken, but is also always spoken again ‘now’ to us, every time we read it. We need to become more aware of this in order to open up to God’s word ‘now’.

FIRST READING       Hebrews 3, 7-14

Speak courage to one another, every day, as long as the “present” lasts.

From the letter to the Hebrews

Brothers and sisters,

Listen to what the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, when ye hear his voice ,
be not obstinate
as in the days of rebellion,
on the day of the challenge in the desert,
where your fathers challenged me
and put me to the test
even though they had seen My work for forty years.
“Therefore I became wrathful against that generation
and I said : Always their heart errs ;
my ways they have not wanted to know.
“And I swore in my wrath :
Never shall they enter into my rest.”
Take care, brothers and sisters,
that no one among you has such an evil and faithless disposition,
that leads to apostasy from the living God.
Encourage one another
every day, as long as that ‘present’ lasts,
so that no one through sin
be tempted to such obstinacy.
For we have become Christ’s partakers,
provided we keep our initial trust
unshaken to the end.

INTERLUDIUM            Ps. 95(94), 6-7, 8-9, 10-11

Listen today to the voice of the Lord,
and be not obstinate.

Come, let us fall to the earth worshiping,
kneel down before Him who created us.
He is our God and we are his people,
He is the shepherd and we his flock.

So listen to his voice this day :
Be not obstinate as once in Meriba,
as at Mass in the desert;
where your fathers wanted to defy Me
although they had seen my deeds.

Forty years this people opposed Me:
I said : Surely they are a wandering people,
they know not my ways.
Therefore I have sworn in wrath :
Never will they find rest with Me.

ALLELUIA            Ps. 27(26), 11

Alleluia.
Show me your way, Lord, in the face of opposition,
lead me along smooth paths.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL              Mk. 1, 40-45

Immediately the leprosy disappeared and the man was cleansed.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Mark

Once a leper came to Jesus
who fell on his knees and begged Him :
“If Thou wilt, Thou canst cleanse me.”
Moved by compassion, He reached out his hand,
touched him and spoke to him :
“I will, become clean.”
Immediately the leprosy disappeared and he was cleansed.
As He sent him away, He admonished him emphatically :
“Take care not to say anything to anyone ,
but go and show yourself to the priest
and offer for your cleansing what Moses has prescribed,
to give them proof.”

Once he left
the man began telling his story everywhere in public
and publicised it,
with the result
that Jesus could no longer enter the city openly ,
but stayed outside in lonely places.
Still, people came to Him from all sides.

Laudato Si

Encyclic by

POPE FRANCIS

On caring for the common home

48. The human and natural environment are deteriorating together, and we will not be able to cope adequately with environmental degradation if we do not pay attention to the causes related to human and societal decline. Environmental and social degradation particularly affects the weakest of the planet: “Both the common experience of ordinary life and scientific research show that the poorest people suffer the most severe effects of all environmental attacks.” For example, the depletion of fish reserves mainly punishes those who live off professional fishing and have nothing to replace it, water pollution particularly affects the poorest, who do not have the ability to buy bottled water, sea level rise mainly affects impoverished coastal populations, who have nowhere to move. The effect of the current imbalance is also evident in the premature deaths of many poor people, in the conflicts caused by the lack of resources, and so many other problems that do not find adequate space in the world’s agendas.
