Saturday – Our Lady on Saturday

Invitation

May I draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants you to share in the joy
of the gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening his heart
for the healing effect of God’s word.

Available every morning from 7 a.m.

Consideration
We heard already this week that the word of God is not only spoken in this time, but over and over again, today, now comes to us. It presents us with a decision. It challenges us.  It penetrates to the meeting point of soul and spirit, i.e. to the deepest hiding places of our being.
Are we listening? Do we answer? What do we do with it today? The answer psalm inspires us: “Let us speak and think acceptable to You.

FIRST READING        Hebr. 4, 12-16

Let us approach boldly to the throne of God’s grace.

From the letter to the Hebrews

Brothers and sisters,

The word of God is alive and powerful.
It is sharper than a double-edged sword,
and it penetrates to the intersection of soul and spirit,
of joints and marrow.
It dissects man’s intentions and thoughts.
No creature is hidden from Him,
everything lies open and naked before his eyes.
To Him we have to account.
Now that we have an exalted high priest,
one that has passed through the heavens,
Jesus, the Son of God,
now we must hold on to our confession.
For we have a high priest
Who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses.
He himself was put to the test in all sorts of ways,
exactly like us, apart from sin.
Let us therefore approach boldly
to the throne of God’s grace,
to obtain mercy and grace
and timely help.

INTERLUDIUM        Ps. 19(18), 8, 9, 10, 15

Your words, Lord, his spirit and life (Jn. 6, 64b).

The law of the Lord is perfect,
it strengthens the uncertain mind.
Its prescriptions are reliable,
they make sense to ignorant people.

All his commands are lawful,
Satisfying for the mind.
crystal clear are his commandments,
they are a light to the eye.

The word of the Lord is honest,
It remains true forever.
His statements are true,
fair in every case.

Let all my speaking and thinking
are acceptable to you, Lord,
for You, my rock and savior.

ALLELUIA             Ps. 111(110), 8ab

Alleluia.
The work of the Lord is good and reliable,
All that He decides is indisputable.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                  Mc. 2, 13-17

I have not come to justify
but to call sinners.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Marcus

Once Jesus went to the shore of the lake.
All the people came to Him and He taught them.
In passing He saw Levi,
the son of Alfeus, sitting at the tollhouse and spoke to him :
“Follow me.”
The man stood up and followed him.

While Jesus was once a guest in the house of Levi
and many of them joined him at the table
also a large number of tax collectors and sinners,
for there were many who followed Him.
The Pharisee scribes saw
that he ate with sinners and tax collectors,
and they said to his students:
“How can He eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
Jesus heard this and answered them:
“It is not the healthy people who need a doctor but the sick.
“I have not come to call the righteous
but to call sinners.

Encyclics of

POPE FRANCISCUS

About caring for the common house

50. Instead of solving the problems of the poor and thinking of a different world, some limit themselves to proposing a reduction in the birth rate. There is no lack of international pressure on developing countries that makes economic aid depend on a certain policy of “reproductive health”. But, “if it is true that the unequal distribution of population and available resources is an obstacle to development and manageable use of the environment, it must be recognised that demographic growth is fully compatible with inclusive and inclusive development”. Blaming demographic growth and not the extreme and selective consumerism of a few is a way of not facing the problems. One thus wants to legitimise the current distributive model, where a minority thinks it is entitled to consume in a proportion that it would be impossible to generalise, because the planet could not even contain the waste from such consumption. Moreover, we know that people waste about a third of the food they produce and “food that one throws away is like robbing it from the table of the poor”. In any case, it is certain that attention must be paid to the uneven balance in the distribution of population across territories, both nationally and globally, because the increase in consumption would lead to complex regional problems through a combination of problems related to environmental pollution, transport, waste disposal, loss of resources, quality of life.
