Consideration
The brothers Cyril and Methodius (9th century) are at the basis of the faith of the Slavic peoples. Their proclamation shows us how the Good News can unite people across all borders and cultural differences. Today, so many centuries later, the mission remains relevant. The European Church is facing a new evangelisation. God wants to use us now to re-Christianise society from its very foundations, as the first Christians did and then as many generations have continued to do. Without giving up our place in the profession and the family! How much good we can do! To this end, we must live a life of living faith, scrupulously making time for prayer every day, interacting personally with Him whom we know loves us. This is a task that concerns us all: let us facilitate for others the way that leads to the encounter with Christ. (John Paul II)
FIRST READING Acts 13, 46-49
Henceforth we address ourselves to the Gentiles.
From the Acts of the Apostles
In those days Paul and Barnabas said to the Jews:
“To you the word of God must be spoken first,
but because you reject it
and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life,
we now turn to the Gentiles.
“For thus saith the commandment of the Lord unto us:
I have set you up as a light unto the Gentiles,
that you may be a saving grace
to the ends of the earth.”
When the Gentiles heard this,
they rejoiced and glorified the word of God,
and all who were destined to eternal life,
accepted the faith.
The word of the Lord spread through all that region.

At that time the Lord appointed seventy-two disciples
and sent them out two by two
to all the cities and places
to which He Himself intended to go.
He spoke to them:
“The harvest is great, but labourers are few.
Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest
to send out labourers to harvest.”
“Go ye therefore,
but behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
“Take no purse, no bag, no shoes
and greet no one on the way.
“Whatever house you enter, let your first word be :
Peace to this house!
“If a man of peace lives there,
then your peace shall be upon him ;
if not, it will return to you.
“Stay in that house and eat and drink what they offer you ;
for the labourer is worth his wages.
“Do not go from one house to another.
“In every town where you enter and are received,
eat what is set before you, heal the sick who are there
and say unto them, the kingdom of God is nigh unto you.”

81. Even though humans presuppose processes of evolution, the human being brings with it a novelty that cannot be fully explained by the evolution of other open systems. Each of us possesses in himself a personal identity, capable of dialogue with the other and with God himself. Ability for reflection, reasoning, creativity, interpretation, artistic elaboration and other new skills show an exceptionality beyond the physical and biological level. The qualitative newness implied by the emergence of a personal being within material creation presupposes a direct action of God, a special calling to life and to a relationship of a You to another You. Starting from the biblical texts, we consider the person as a subject that can never be reduced to the category of an object.
