Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
Opening word
After Jesus speaks to his disciples
about the suffering that awaits Him,
on top of a high mountain
He changed shape.
He comforts his frightened disciples and touches them.
He also speaks words of hope to us today.
Death does not have the last word.
The Easter light shines over every shadow.
Let us joyfully and with grateful hearts
celebrate the paschal mystery.
FIRST READING Gen. 12, 1-4a
Calling of Abram, the father of God’s people.
From the Book of Genesis
In those days the Lord said to Abram:
“Depart from your land, your tribe and your family ,
to the land I will appoint for you.
“I will make of you a great people.
“I will bless you and make your name great ,
so that he will be a blessing.
“I will bless those who bless you,
but those who curse you I will curse.
“Through you will come blessing over all the generations of the earth.”
Then Abram set out ,
as the Lord had instructed him to do.
Responsorial Ps. 33(32), 4-5, 18-19, 20 and 22
Refrain
Give us, Lord, your mercy,
as we trust in Thee.
For upright is the word of the Lord,
and all that He does is trustworthy.
Law and justice He loves,
the earth is full of His mercy.
The eye of the Lord rests on those who fear Him,
who count on his mercy,
that He will snatch them from death,
feed them in times of famine.
We put all our hope in the Lord,
He is our help and our shield.
Let your mercy, Lord, descend upon us
as our trust goes out to You.
SECOND READING 2 Tim. 1, 8b-10
God calls us and gives us light.
From the holy apostle Paul’s second letter to Timothy
Dear one,
Bear your part in suffering for the gospel,
through the power of God,
Who has saved us
and called us with a holy calling,
not by virtue of our merits,
but according to the free decree of his grace,
from all eternity granted to us in Christ Jesus.
Now his grace has been made manifest
through the appearance of our Saviour, Christ Jesus,
who destroyed death
and lit up imperishable life through the gospel.
Verse for the gospel
Praise and honour be to You, Lord Jesus.
From a shining cloud
the voice of the Father was heard:
This is my well-loved Son,
listen to Him.
Praise and honour be to You, Lord Jesus.
GOSPEL Mt 17:1-9
His countenance began to shine like the sun.
From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew
At that time Jesus took
Peter, James and his brother John with him
and brought them to the top of a high mountain
where they were alone.
He was transformed before their eyes:
His countenance began to shine like the sun
and his garment became shining like the light.
Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
who were conversing with Him.
Peter took the floor and said to Jesus:
“Lord, it is good that we are here.
“If You will, I will pitch three tents here,
one for Thee,
one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
Still he had not spoken
or a luminous cloud overshadowed them
and from the cloud a voice sounded:
“This is My Son, the Well-Beloved ,
in whom I have set My pleasure;
listen to Him.”
On hearing this
the disciples threw themselves down to earth,
seized by a fierce fear.
But Jesus came to them,
touched them and said:
“Stand up, and do not be afraid.”
When they lifted up their eyes ,
they saw no one but Jesus.
While descending the mountain, Jesus enjoined them:
“Speak to no one about what you have beheld
before the Son of Man rose from the dead.”

POPE FRANCIS
On caring for the common home
100. The New Testament speaks to us not only of the earthly Jesus and his so concrete and loving relationship with the world. It also shows us this as the Resurrected and Glorified One, present in all creation with his universal dominion: “For in him God has willed to dwell in all his fullness, that through him the universe might be reconciled to himself, and peace established through the blood shed on the cross, that all things in the heavens and on earth might be reconciled, through him alone” (Col 1:19-20) . This points us to the end of time, when the Son will hand over everything to the Father, so that “God is all in all” (1 Cor. 15, 28) . Thus, the creatures of this world no longer present themselves to us as a purely natural reality, because the Risen One mysteriously surrounds and directs them towards a destiny of fullness. The same flowers in the field and the birds that He beheld with wonder with His human eyes are now full of His luminous presence.
