Tuesday in Good Week

Invitation

May I hereby call your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.

Available every day.

Consideration

After the unmasking of Judas, the traitor, the fourth gospel says: Judas left at once. “It was night.” This is not lateral casual information in the sense of “it had become dark in the meantime.” The sentence is deeply charged. Judas is entering the realm of darkness. Just then the words fall, ” “Now the Son of Man is glorified.” The fourth gospel sees suffering, death and resurrection as one. Jesus enters the final phase in which God finally triumphs.

FIRST READING   Isa. 49, 1-6

I will make you a light to the Gentiles, so that my salvation will go to the borders of the earth.

From the Prophet Isaiah

You islands, listen to me!
Prick up your ears, distant peoples!
From my mother’s womb the Lord has called me,
He has called my name from my mother’s womb.
He has made my mouth a sharp-edged sword
and sheltered me with the shadow of his hand.
He has made me a pointed arrow
and secured me in his quiver.
He has said to me :
“My servant art thou,
Israel, through whom I am going to find My glory.”
But I said :
“Fruitless have I toiled,
my strength perished in emptiness and wind,
yet the Lord upholds my right,
and my reward is from God.”
Now, however, the Lord has spoken,
who formed me into his servant from my mother’s womb
to bring Jacob back to Him
and to save Israel from destruction.
I stand with the Lord in honor
and my God is my strength.
He has said to me :
“Thou art not only my servant
to raise up Jacob’s tribes
and to bring back the spared of Israel.
“I now make thee also a light unto the Gentiles,
so that my salvation may go to the borders of the earth.”

INTERLUDIUM              Ps. 71(70), 1-2, 3-4a, 5-6ab, 15, 17

I will praise your righteousness.

To You, Lord, I take refuge,
yet never fail me.
Thou art just, save and deliver me,
listen and come to my aid.

Be to me a refuge, a safe place ;
Thou hast been my rock and my fortress.
Deliver me, my God, from the hands of sinners.

For thou, my God, art my hope,
Thou, Lord, art my hope from my earliest youth.
From the mother’s womb I have leaned on Thee,
Thou hast been my protector since my birth.

I will praise thy righteousness,
Thy assistance all the day long.
From childhood I have experienced it,
and even now I praise your deeds.

VERSE FOR THE GOSPEL

Do we pay homage to our King.
Obedient to the Father
He was carried off to the cross
like an unsuspecting lamb led to the slaughter.

GOSPEL    John 13, 21-33.36-38

One of you will hand Me over. Before the cock crows you will have denied Me three times.

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

At that time when Jesus was at table with his disciples
He was moved and affirmed :
“Verily, verily, I say unto you :
One of you shall deliver Me up.”
The disciples looked at each other,
unsure who He meant.
One of the disciples,
the one Jesus loved,
lay close to Jesus.
Simon Peter gave him a sign and asked him :
“Who does He mean?”
Then this one leaned against Jesus’ chest and said :
“Lord, who is it?”
Jesus answered :
“It is he
to whom I will give the piece of bread that I am going to baptize.”
After having baptized the piece of bread
He reached out to Judas Iscariot.
And when Judas had accepted it
Satan entered into him.
Jesus said to him :
“What ye have to do
do it quickly.”
But none of those lying down
understood why He said this to him.
Because Judas held the purse strings,
some thought Jesus was telling him to :
Buy what we need for the feast ,
or that he should give something to the poor.
When he had taken the piece of bread
he left immediately.
It was night time.

After he left, Jesus said :
“Now the Son of Man is glorified
and God is glorified in Him.
“If God is glorified in Him
God will also glorify Him in Himself ,
yes, He will soon glorify Him.
“Little children, yet for a short time I will be with you.
“Ye shall seek Me, and as I said unto the Jews :
Where I go ye cannot come ,
I now say it to you.
Simon Peter said to Him :
“Lord, where art Thou going?”
Jesus answered him :
“Where I am going ye cannot follow Me now,
You can later.”
Peter asked Him :
“Lord, why can I not follow Thee at once?
“My life I will give for Thee.”
Jesus replied:
“Thy life wilt thou give for Me?
“Verily, verily, I say unto thee :
Before the cock crows
thou shalt deny me thrice.”

Biological innovation from research

130.In the philosophical and theological view of man and creation that I have tried to present, it is clear that the human person with the special characteristic of his reason and his science is not an external factor that must be completely excluded. Although the human being can intervene in the plant and animal world and make use of it, when necessary for his life, the Catechism nevertheless teaches that experiments on animals are only legitimate, if “they remain within reasonable limits and help to care for human beings or save human lives.” He forcefully reminds us that man’s power has limits and that ” to make animals suffer uselessly or waste their lives is contrary to human dignity.” Every use and experiment “requires a religious reverence for the wholeness of creation.”
