Fourth Sunday of Easter

De Heer is waarlijk verrezen

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one except

can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Opening word
The fourth Sunday of Easter is traditionally
called the Sunday of the Good Shepherd’.
The risen Lord wants to make it clear to us
that He always cares for us.
May today also be an invitation to follow in Jesus’ footsteps
ourselves to become shepherds for one another.
We also celebrate vocations Sunday.
Do we pray that all of us and again and again
learn to listen to where God needs us.
Open our hearts to his voice.

FIRST READING      Acts 2, 14a.36-41

God has made Him Lord and Christ.

From the Acts of the Apostles

On the day of Pentecost, Peter stepped forward with the eleven
and raised his voice to address the word to the crowd :
“For all the house of Israel must be established beyond doubt ,
that God has made that Jesus whom you crucified,
made Lord and Christ.”

When they heard this, they were deeply affected
and said to Peter and the other apostles :
“What should we do, men, brothers?”

Peter answered them in reply :
“Repent
and let every one of you be baptised
in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.
“Then you will receive as a gift the Holy Spirit.
“For this promise is to you,
your children and all men everywhere,
as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

With many more words he bore witness,
and he admonished them:
“Save yourselves from this degenerate generation.”

Those who accepted his word were baptised,
so that on that day
about three thousand joined.

Responsorial       Ps 23 (22), 1-3a, 3b-4, 5, 6

Refrain
The Lord is my shepherd,
nothing do I lack.

The Lord is my shepherd, nothing do I lack ;
He makes me graze on green fields.
He brings me to water, where I can rest,
He restores my courage.

He guides my steps along straight paths
For his Name’s sake.
Though my way leads through dark gorges,
I fear no evil wherever You lead me.
Thy rod and Thy staff
Give me courage and confidence

You invite me to your Table
to the annoyance of my adversaries.
With oil Thou anointest my head,
my cup is overflowing.

Prosperity and blessing never leave me
every day of my life.
The house of the Lord shall be my dwelling
for all times to come.

SECOND READING      1 Peter 2, 20b-25

Thou art converted to the shepherd of thy souls.

From the first letter of the holy apostle Peter

Dear ones,

Bear with patience what ye have to suffer
because of thy good deeds,
that is what pleases God.
It is also your calling,
for Christ has suffered for you
and left you an example;
ye must follow in his footsteps.

He has done no sin
and in His mouth no guile was found.
When He was scolded ,
He did not scold back.
If one inflicted suffering on Him,
He made no threats.
He left his case
to Him who judges justly.
In his own body
He bore our sins on the cross wood,
so that we might die to sin
and go to live for righteousness.
By Hhis wounds ye are healed.

For ye were lost as sheep,
but now ye are converted
to the shepherd and keeper of thy souls.

Verse for the Gospel John 10.14

Alleluia.
I am the good Shepherd, says the Lord,
I know mine and mine know Me.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL   Jn 10,1-10

I am the door of the sheep.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

At that time Jesus said:

“Verily, verily, I say unto you:
Whoever does not pass through the door ,
but by another way enters the sheepfold,
he is a thief and a robber.
“But he who enters by the door ,
is the shepherd of the sheep.
“Him the doorkeeper opens.
“The sheep listen to his voice;
he calls his sheep by their names and leads them out.
“And when he has brought out his sheep ,
he goes out before them,
while they follow him, because they know his voice.
“A stranger, however, they will not follow ;
on the contrary, they will flee from him,
because they do not know the voice of strangers.”

This parable Jesus told them,
but they did not understand what He wanted to tell them.

On another occasion, Jesus said to them:
“Verily, verily, I say to you:
I am the door of the sheep.
“All who have come before Me are thieves and robbers ,
but the sheep have not listened to them.
“I am the door.
“If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved;
he will enter and go out and find pasture.
“The thief comes only to steal,
slaughter and destroy.
“I have come that they may possess life ,
and abundantly so.”

Laudato Si

Encyclic by

POPE FRANCIS

On caring for the common home

155. The ecology of man also involves a very profound aspect: the necessary relationship of man’s life to the moral law inscribed in his own nature. This relationship is essential to constitute a dignified environment. Pope Benedict XVI spoke of an “ecology of man” based on the fact “that man has a nature which he must respect and cannot manipulate at will.” It is enough to recognise that our bodies establish themselves in a direct relationship with the environment and with other living beings. Accepting our bodies as a gift from God is vital to welcoming and accepting the whole world as a gift from the Father and as our common home. Thinking we have absolute power over our bodies turns, often subtly, into thinking we have absolute power over creation. Learning to accept our bodies, care for them and respect their full meaning is an essential element for any authentic human ecology. Likewise, appreciating the femininity or masculinity of one’s own body is necessary for recognising myself in an encounter with another who differs from me. In this way, we can joyfully accept the various gifts of another man or woman – the work of God the Creator – to become mutually enriched as a result. It is not a healthy attitude to “erase the gender difference because we no longer know how to deal with it.”
