Seventh sunday of Easter

The Lord has truly risen

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one except,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Opening word
As in those days the apostles with Mary and the women
were united in prayer together,
so we too are here together to pray,
but also to be carried and glorified
by the prayer of Jesus Christ for us.
Even more than us, He prays to the Father that we may be glorious like Him.
Open our hearts that God’s glory may find and heal us.

FIRST READING        Acts 1:12-14

They persisted in prayer in unison.

From the Acts of the Apostles

After Jesus was taken up to heaven,
the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives.
This mountain is close to Jerusalem within Sabbath distance.
Once there, they went to the upper room
where they were staying :
Peter and John, James and Andrew,
Philip and Tomas, Bartholomew and Matthew,
James, son of Alphaeus,
Simon the Zealot and Judas, the brother of James.
They all persisted in prayer in unison
together with the women,
with Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Answer Psalm        Ps. 27(26), 1, 4, 7-8

Refrain
I count on being in the land of the living
to behold the salvation of the Lord.

The Lord is my light and my guide,
whom should I fear;
the Lord is the brace of my life,
whom should I fear?

One thing only I ask the Lord, more I shall not wish:
That I may dwell in God’s house as long as I live.
That I may experience the loveliness of the Lord,
may see his temple again with my own eyes.

Will listen, Lord, to my crying voice,
have mercy and will hear me.
To You my heart speaks, to You I look up,
Your face, Lord, I seek to see.

SECOND READING                1 Peter 4:13-16

If one jests at thee for the name of Christ thou shalt be blessed.

From the first letter of the holy apostle Peter

Dearly beloved,

Rejoice to the extent that ye have part in the sufferings of Christ;
then shall ye rejoice for joy,
when his glory is revealed.
Rejoice when people jeer at you for the name of Christ:
It is a sign that the spirit of glory,
which is the Spirit of God,
rests on you.
See to it that none of you suffer
as a murderer or thief or evildoer or harasser.
But those who suffer as Christians should not be ashamed,
but honour God with that name.

Verse for the gospel       John 4, 18

Alleluia. I will not leave you orphaned, says the Lord,
I will go and I will return to you,
and your heart will rejoice.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL        John 17, 1-11a

Father, glorify your Son.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

At that time Jesus lifted up his eyes to heaven and said:
“Father, the hour has come.
“Glorify thy Son, that the Son may glorify Thee.
“For Thou hast given Him power over all men
to give eternal life to all whom Thou hast given Him.
“And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee,
the only true God, and Him whom Thou hast sent: Jesus Christ.

“I have glorified Thee on earth
by accomplishing the work
Which Thou hast instructed Me to do.
“Thou, Father, now glorify Me with Thyself
and give Me the glory,
which I had with Thee before the world existed.

“I have revealed Thy Name to those
whom Thou hast given Me out of the world.
“To Thee they belonged.
Me thou hast given them, and they have kept thy word.
“Now they know that all that Thou hast given Me comes from Thee.
“For the message which Thou hast communicated to Me,
have I communicated to them,
and they have accepted them and acknowledged truthfully
that I came forth from Thee,
and they have believed that Thou hast sent Me.

“I pray for them.
“Not for the world do I pray,
but for those whom Thou hast given Me, because they belong to Thee.
“All Mine is Thine and Thine is Mine.
“Thus I am glorified in them.
“I remain no longer in the world; they, however, remain in the world,
while I come to Thee.”

Dialogue towards a new national and local politics

176. Not only are there victors and losers among countries, but also within poor countries where different responsibilities need to be identified. Therefore, issues related to the environment and economic development cannot just be raised on the basis of differences between countries, but call for attention in national and international politics.
