Tenth Sunday of the year

Boek met kaars 40

Invitation

May I hereby call your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with you the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one except,
can experience that joy by opening his heart
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

OPENING WORD
‘Everyone is welcome
especially those who are cast aside by others.’
That is the message Jesus wants to bring to us today.
No matter how worthy or unworthy we think we are,
Jesus says to each of us:
“Follow Me.
Do we open our hearts
that God’s words may penetrate us,
so that we can gratefully celebrate together
and direct our actions to Jesus’ example.

FIRST READING           Hos. 6, 3-6
Piety I desire, not sacrifices.

From the prophet Hosea

We want to love the Lord and make an effort to know Him.
As surely as the dawn He shows Himself,
He comes upon us as the rain,
like the spring rain that waters the earth.

“What must I begin with thee, Ephraim?
“What shall I begin with thee, Judah?
“Your piety is like the morning mist,
like the dew that disappears early in the morning.
“Therefore I have struck at you through the prophets,
I brought death by the words of my mouth:
My judgment broke through like the light.
“For piety, I desire, not sacrifices,
and love of God, more than burnt offerings.”

RESPONSORIAL           Ps. 50(49), 1 and 8, 12-13, 14-15
Refrain
He who walks straight paths, he finds the salvation of God

The Lord, the God of gods, speaks,
He calls the earth from east to west.
“I do not reproach you about sacrifices:
Your sacrificial animals I see burning all the time.

I would not tell you if I were hungry,
I can dispose of all that lives on earth.
Would I eat the flesh of bulls
or consume the blood of goats for a drink?

Rather bring God the sacrifice of your praise,
and fulfill your vows to the Highest.
Then you may cry out to Me in tribulation:
I will save you if you worship Me.”

SECOND READING        Rom. 4:18-23
Abraham did not doubt but honored God by the power of his faith.

From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of
Rome

Brothers and sisters,

Against all hope, Abraham hoped
and believed that he would become the father of many nations,
as it was said to him:
“So numerous shall thy posterity be.”

His faith did not fade,
when he, the centenarian,
thought of his own decrepit body
and of the barren womb of Sarah.
Not for a moment did he doubt God’s promise.
On the contrary,
he honored God with the power of his faith,
by his firm conviction
that God can accomplish
what He has promised.
Therefore, it was imputed to him as righteousness.

These words were not only written down
for his sake,
but also for us
who believing will likewise be imputed,
since we believe in Him
Who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead:
Jesus who was delivered up for our failures
and was raised for our justification.

These words were not only written down
for his sake,
but also for us
who believing will likewise be charged,
since we believe in Him
Who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead:
Jesus who was delivered up for our failures
and was raised for our justification.

Verse for the Gospel Lk. 4-18

Alleluia.
The Lord has sent me
To bring to the poor the Good News
and to the captives their deliverance.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL              Mt. 9, 9-13

I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew

In those days Jesus went on
and He saw someone sitting at the toll booth
whose name was Matthew?
He said to him :
“Follow Me.”
The man got up and followed Jesus

Now while He was sitting at the table in Matthew’s dwelling,
many tax collectors and sinners
lay down with Jesus and His disciples.
When the Pharisees saw this,
they said to his disciples:
“Why does your Master eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

Jesus heard this and said :
“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
“Go and learn what it means :
I prefer mercy to sacrifice.
“I have not come to call the righteous,
but sinners.”

Laudato Si

Encyclic of

POPE FRANCIS

On the care of the common home

197. We need a politics that has a broad vision and develops a new integral approach by including in an interdisciplinary dialogue the different aspects of the crisis. Often politics itself is responsible for its own discredit on the grounds of corruption and lack of proper overt politics. If the state in a region is not fulfilling its own role, some economic groups may appear as benefactors and have real power because they feel empowered not to adhere to certain norms and, in the process, even enable various forms of organized crime, human trafficking, drug trafficking and violence that are difficult to eradicate. If politics is unable to break a depraved logic and, moreover, remains stuck in incoherent narratives, we will continue to fail to address humanity’s major problems. A strategy of real change requires rethinking the totality of processes, as it is not enough to include superficial reflections on the environment while not questioning the underlying logic of the current culture. Sound politics should be able to meet this challenge.
