Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one except,
can experience this joy by opening his heart to the healing effect of God’s word.
Available every day
Consideration
In this way, Paul continues to give an appropriate response to God’s grace. Thus he imitates Jesus, who responds to evil with an excess of goodness and generosity. This attitude speaks of trust in God and faith in His powerful assistance. Gratitude is its source, for: His benefits the Lord made us know. (Ps 98.2)
FIRST READING 2 Cor. 8, 1-9
For your sake Jesus Christ became poor.
From the Second Letter of the Apostle Paul to the Christians of Corinth
Brothers and sisters,
We want to tell you now of the grace of God
which has been bestowed upon the churches of Macedonia.
sorely tried by tribulations
They rejoiced exceedingly
and their bitter poverty was overflowing in meekness.
For they gave according to their ability;
I should really say: Beyond their means.
Of their own accord and with great urgency
they begged us for the favor,
they gave more than we could hope for;
they gave themselves, first of all, to the Lord,
but also, by God’s will, to us.
Encouraged by this, we urged Titus
to complete also this work of love which he had begun before,
and bring it to a successful conclusion with you.
Well, you already excel in so many respects:
In faith, eloquence, science,
in diligence in all fields,
in your love for us,
then let this work of love also succeed excellently!
I do not say this by way of command,
but to test the genuineness of your love
by the devotion shown to others.
For the act of love of our Lord Jesus Christ
I do not need to remind you:
How He became poor for your sake, whereas He was rich,
that ye might be made rich through his poverty.
Interludium Ps. 146(145), 2, 5-6, 7, 8-9a
I will praise the Lord all my life.
Alleluia.
I will praise the Lord all my life,
my God will I sing all my days.
Blessed is he that seeketh help of Jacob’s God,
puts his hope in God the Lord ;
In Him who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that lives in it.
The Lord always keeps his word,
He gives justice to the oppressed.
The Lord gives bread to the hungry,
He gives freedom to captives.
The Lord opens the eyes of the blind,
He raises up those who are broken.
The Lord loves the righteous,
the Lord preserves the displaced.
ALLELUIA John 10,27
Alleluia.
My sheep listen to my voice, says the Lord ;
and I know them, and they follow me.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mt 5, 43-48
Love your enemies.
From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
At that time Jesus said to his disciples :
“You have heard that it was said :
You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
“But I say to you :
Love your enemies and pray for them who persecute you,
that ye may be children of your Father in heaven,
who causeth the sun to rise on the evil and on the good
and causeth it to rain on the just and unjust.”
“For if ye love those who love you,
what right have ye to wages?
“Do not the tax collectors do the same?
“And if thou greetest only thy brother,
what is it that ye do?
“Do not the heathen do the same?
“Be ye therefore perfect,
as your Father in heaven is perfect.”

On Care of the Common Home
206. A change in lifestyle could bring healthy pressure to bear on those who wield political,
economic and social power. This is what consumer movements accomplish by boycotting certain products. They prove successful in changing the way businesses operate, forcing them to consider their environmental footprint and their patterns of production. When social pressure affects their earnings, businesses clearly have to find ways to produce differently. This shows us the great need for a sense of social responsibility on the part of consumers. “Purchasing is always a moral – and not simply economic – act”. Today, in a word, “the issue of environmental degradation challenges us to examine our lifestyle”.
