Invitation
May I hereby call your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one except,
can experience that joy by opening his heart
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
Opening Word
Many people are tired today, physically or emotionally.
It’s too much: our overflowing schedules, the high workload,
the worries about people who are dear to us,
the problems in this world and society.
To them and to us, Jesus says today:
“Come to me, I want to give you peace, I want to help carry your burden.
At the same time, Jesus invites us to bear his yoke,
the gentle yoke and light burden of love.
Let us come to Him in this hour
To entrust Him with our burdens
and apprentice with Him.
FIRST READING Zech. 9, 9-10
Behold, your king comes to you; he is humble.
From the prophet Zechariah
Thus speaks the Lord:
“Rejoice loudly, ye daughter Zion,
rejoice, ye daughter Jerusalem!
“Behold, thy king cometh unto thee,
righteous and victorious;
he is humble, he rides on a donkey,
on a colt, the young of a donkey.
“I sweep the chariots out of Ephraim,
the horses from Jerusalem;
the bow of battle is broken.
“Then he proclaims peace among the nations,
then his dominion shall go from sea to sea,
from the River to the borders of the earth.”
Responsorial Ps. 145(144) Ps. 1-2, 8-9, 10-11, 13cd-14
Refrain
Thy name will I glorify,
my God and King.
You I want to praise, my God and King,
glorifying Your Name forever.
You I want to praise every day,
glorifying your name forever.
The Lord is full of love and compassion,
longsuffering and most gracious.
The Lord is concerned for every person,
merciful to all that He made.
Your works will praise You, Lord,
thy pious ones shall praise thee.
They praise the glory of Your rule,
thy power they proclaim.
The Lord is true in all His words
and holy in all that He does.
The Lord sustains those who are in danger of falling,
raises up all who are troubled.
SECOND READING Rom. 8:9,11-13
If by the Spirit you mortify the practices of selfishness, you will live.
From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of
Rome
Brothers and sisters,
Your existence is not governed by selfishness
but by the Spirit,
because the Spirit of God dwells in you.
Should anyone not have the Spirit of Christ,
then he does not belong to Him.
If the Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead ,
dwells in you,
He
who raised Christ Jesus from the dead ,
will one day quicken your mortal body also
by the power of His Spirit,
who abides in you.
Brothers and sisters,
we have obligations
but not to ourselves, to live selfishly.
If ye live selfishly ,
ye shall surely die.
But if ye by the Spirit
Mortify the practices of selfishness,
ye shall live.
Verse for the Gospel Cf. Mt. 11:25
Alleluia.
Blessed art thou, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
because you have revealed the secrets of the kingdom to children.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mt. 11, 25-30
I am meek and humble of heart.
From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
At that time Jesus spoke :
“I praise Thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
because You have hidden these things
From the wise and understanding,
but revealed them to children.
“Yes, Father, so it has pleased Thee.
“All things have been given to Me by My Father.
“No one knows the Son unless the Father,
and no one knows the Father unless the Son
and he to whom the Son will reveal Him.
“Come to Me all
who are exhausted and burdened,
and I will give you rest and relief.
“Take My yoke on your shoulders and learn from Me:
I am meek and lowly in heart;
and ye shall find rest for your souls,
for My yoke is gentle and My burden is light.”

Encyclic of
POPE FRANCIS
On the care of the common home
225. On the other hand, no one can cultivate a sober and satisfying life without being at peace with him or herself. An adequate understanding of spirituality consists in filling out what we mean by peace, which is much more than the absence of war. Inner peace is closely related to care for ecology and for the common good because, lived out authentically, it is reflected in a balanced lifestyle together with a capacity for wonder which takes us to a deeper understanding of life. Nature is filled with words of love, but how can we listen to them amid constant noise, interminable and nerve-wracking distractions, or the cult of appearances? Many people today sense a profound imbalance which drives them to frenetic activity and makes them feel busy, in a constant hurry which in turn leads them to ride rough-shod over everything around them. This too affects how they treat the environment. An integral ecology includes taking time to recover a serene harmony with creation, reflecting on our lifestyle and our ideals, and contemplating the Creator who lives among us and surrounds us, whose presence “must not be contrived but found, uncovered”.
