Invitation

May I hereby call your attention
for the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with you
the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one except, can experience that joy
by opening his heart to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Opening Word
We are all searching for what ultimately makes us happy.
While searching, we have discovered the treasure that is Jesus:
He promises immense joy and life fulfillment,
but that does not come without taking up our responsibility.
We must set aside a lot and consistently commit ourselves
to what He expects of us.
Let us celebrate this Eucharist with humble and hopeful hearts,
expecting the Lord to strengthen us and give us courage.

FIRST READING                     I Kings 3:5,7-12

Thou hast asked for wisdom.

From the first book of Kings

In those days the Lord appeared
by night in a dream to Solomon and said:
“What do you want me to give you?

Solomon answered:
“Lord my God, thou hast exalted thy servant to be king ,
though I am but a young man
and do not yet know what I should do or not do.
“Thus thy servant stands in the midst of the people
which Thou hast chosen,
a great people,
so great that it cannot be counted or estimated.
“Give therefore to thy servant an observant spirit ,
to be able to speak rightly before thy people
and to be able to distinguish between good and evil.
“For who is able to speak justice to this great people of Thine?”

This request of Solomon pleased the Lord.
And God said to him:
“Because thou hast asked for this very thing
and have not asked for long life ,
nor for riches,
nor for the death of your enemies,
but because you have asked for understanding to be able to speak justice,
therefore I will grant your request
and give you a mind full of wisdom and understanding,
such as no one before you has ever had
nor will anyone have after thee.”

Responsorial        Ps. 119(118), 57 and 72, 76-77, 127-128, 129-130

Keervers
How much is your law dear to me, Lord

This I set myself always, Lord,
to be true to your word.
The law from your mouth is worth more to me
than treasures of silver and gold.

But let Your mercy comfort me now,
as Thou hast once promised Thy servant.
Through thy mercy may I live,
because I find my joy in Thy law.

I desire what Thou hast commanded
above the finest gold.
Therefore have I chosen Thy commands,
I reject the law of evil.

Excellent is all that Thou hast ordained,
therefore my spirit holds fast to it.
The interpretation of Thy words gives clarity,
giving wisdom to the inexperienced.

SECOND READING          Rom 8:28-30

He has predestined us to be conformed to the image of His Son.

From the holy apostle Paul’s first letter to the Christians
of Rome

Brothers and sisters,

We know
that God promotes in all things the salvation
of those who love him,
of those who are called according to His decree.
For those whom He has known beforehand,
He has also destined in advance
to be conformed to the image of his Son,
that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Whom He predestined, He also called.
Whom He called, He justified,
and whom He justified, He glorified.

Verse for the Gospel            Cf. Mt. 11:25

Alleluia.

Blessed art Thou, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
because Thou hast revealed the secrets of the kingdom
to children.

Alleluia.

GOSPEL             Mt. 13, 44-52 or 44-46

He sold everything he owned and bought that field.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew

At that time Jesus said to the crowd:

“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure ,
hidden in a field.
“When someone found it, he hid it again,
and in his joy
he went and sold everything he owned
and bought that field.

“Also, the kingdom of heaven resembles a merchant,
seeking beautiful pearls.
“When he had found a pearl of great value,
he went and sold everything he owned and bought it.

“Also, the kingdom of heaven resembles a dragnet
which cast into the sea,
bringing together fish of all kinds.
“When it was full, one pulled it onto the beach;
one sat down to pick out the good fish
and put them into baskets;
the bad ones, however, were thrown away.
“So shall it be at the end of the world:
The angels shall go forth
to seek out the wicked among the righteous
and to cast them into the furnace of fire.
“There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

“Have ye understood all this?”
They answered him, “Yes.”
He said to them:
“Therefore every scribe
who is taught in the kingdom of heaven ,
is like a householder
who brings out of his treasure new and old.”

Seventh chapter Prayers

246. After this long joyful and at the same time dramatic reflection, I propose two prayers, one that all of us who believe in a creative, omnipotent God may share, and another, that we Christians may assume the obligations to creation that the Gospel of Jesus holds out to us.

246a Prayer for our earth

Almighty God
who are present in all the universe
And in the smallest of Your creatures,
You who surround all that exists with tenderness,
pour out on us the power of Thy love that
we would protect life and beauty.
Immerse us in peace that we may
live as brothers and sisters
without harming anyone.
O God of the poor,
help us to come to the aid of the neglected
and those who are forgotten on this earth
and have so much value in Your eyes.
Heal our lives,
that we may be protectors of the world
and not predators,
that we may sow beauty
And neither pollution nor destruction.
Touch the hearts
of those who seek only profit
at the expense of the earth and the poor.
Teach us to discover the value of every thing
to discover, to contemplate with admiration,
to recognize that we are deeply one
with all creatures
on our way to Thy infinite light.
Thank Thee for being with us all days.
Support us, we pray Thee,
in our struggle for justice, love and peace.

246b Christian prayer with creation

We praise You, Father, with all creatures ,
who have come forth from Your mighty hand.
They are Yours and are filled with Your presence
as well as of Your tenderness.
Praised be Thou.

Son of God, Jesus,
all things were created by Thee.
Thou didst form in the womb of Mary,
thou hast been part of this earth
and Thou hast looked upon this world with human eyes.
Today Thou dost live in every creature
with Thy glory of Risen One.
Praised be Thou.

Holy Spirit, who by Thy light
Directs this world to the love of the Father
And accompanies the sighing of creation,
Thou dost also live in our hearts
To stir us up to goodness.
Praised be Thou.

O God, Triune One,
exalted communion of infinite love,
teach us to behold Thee
in the beauty of the universe,
where everything speaks to us of Thee.
Awaken our praise and gratitude
For every creature Thou hast created.
Give us the grace
To feel intimately one with all that exists.

God of love, show us
our place in this world
as an instrument of Thy affection
for all beings of this earth,
because none are forgotten by You.
Enlighten the rulers and money holders
That they may guard against the sin of indifference,
love the common good, favor the weak,
and care for this world on which we live.
The poor and the earth beg:
Lord, seize us
by Thy power and Thy light
To protect every life,
to prepare a better future,
that Thy kingdom of justice, peace, love and beauty may come.
Praised be Thou.
Amen.
