Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
Consideration
Israel is clearly inculcated that the causes of all misery are sin and idolatry. Now the idols prove powerless. The second part promises Israel’s restoration. The time of the unruly rulers is over. Out of their midst comes a new ruler, who is an intermediary between God and the people.
FIRST READING Num. 12, 1-13
Moses is my confidant.
How hast thou dared to turn against my servant?
From the Book of Numbers
In those days, Miriam and Aaron turned against Moses,
because he had taken a Kusite woman:
indeed, he had married a Kusite.
They said :
“Did the Lord speak only through Moses?
” Did He not also speak through us?”
The Lord heard that
and because Moses was a very humble man,
the humblest of all men on earth,
the Lord immediately said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam:
“Go with you three to the tent of meeting”.
The three of them went there.
Now the Lord descended in a column of cloud,
sat down at the entrance of the tent
and called Aaron and Miriam, both of whom stepped forward.
He said :
“Listen to what I have to say.
“To your prophets I make Me known in visions
and I speak to them in dreams.
“With My servant Moses I do not.
“He is My confidant, in all My house.
“With him I speak from mouth to mouth,
clearly and not in riddles.
“He beholds the stature of the Lord.
“How did ye dare to turn against My servant Moses?”
Wrathfully, the Lord departed from them.
The cloud had not yet departed from the tent of meeting,
or Miriam was full of a rash ; it looked like snow.
When Aaron turned to Miriam, there stood a leper.
Aaron said to Moses :
“Ah lord, let us not suffer
for the sin we committed in our folly.
“Let not Miriam be like a stillborn child
that comes half-dead from its mother’s womb.
” Moses cried out to the Lord :
“O God, make her well again!”
INTERLUDIUM Ps 51 (50), 3-4, 5-6a, 6bc-7, 12-13
God, have mercy on me in your mercy,
deliver my sinfulness in your mercy.
Wash my guilt utterly from me,
cleanse me from all my sins.
I acknowledge my wrongdoing,
always I have my offence before me.
Towards Thee alone have I sinned,
what opposes Thee I have done.
So art Thou righteous in Thy judgement,
the sentence which Thou dost pronounce is just.
Ah, laden with guilt was I born,
guilty was it that my mother received me.
Create in me a pure heart, my God
give me again a resolute spirit.
Will not cast me away from Your Face,
do not take away your Holy Spirit from me.
ALLELUIA John 10.27
Alleluia My sheep listen to My voice, says the Lord;
and I know them and they follow Me.
Alleluia
GOSPEL Mt 14:22-36
If it is You, Lord, tell me to come to You by water.
From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew
After the multiplication of bread, Jesus forced his disciples
to get into the boat and sail to the other side already,
while He would send the people home.
When He had sent the people away
He went up the mountain to pray in solitude.
Night was falling and He was there alone.
The boat was already many stadia from the shore
and was ravaged by the waves,
for they had headwinds.
On the fourth watch of the night
He came on foot across the lake to them.
But when the disciples saw Him going this way across the lake,
they became upset because they thought they saw a ghost
and they began to cry out in fear.
But Jesus immediately said to them :
“Rest assured, it is I. Do not fear.”
“Lord – answered Peter –
if it is You ,
then tell me to come to Thee by water.”
To which Jesus spoke :
“Come!”
Peter got out of the boat and walked across the water towards Jesus.
But when he noticed how fierce the wind was he became afraid ;
he began to sink and cried out :
“Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus reached out His hand
and took hold of him, saying to him :
“Little believer, why have you doubted ?
” After they got into the boat, the wind died down.
The occupants threw themselves down before Him and said :
“Truly, Thou art the Son of God.”
When they had crossed over
they reached the shore at Gennésaret.
When the men of that region recognised Him,
they spread the news of His coming throughout the region
and brought Him all their sick.
They begged Him
if they could at least touch the hem of His robe.
And all who did so became healthy.

Encyclic of
POPE FRANCIS
On caring for the common home
8. Patriarch Bartholomew has particularly stressed the need for each person to repent of the way he mistreats the planet, because “to the extent that we all cause small ecological damage”, we are called to recognise “our small or large contribution to the disruption and destruction of the environment”. On this point, he has repeatedly expressed himself in a forceful and thought-provoking manner by inviting us to acknowledge our sins against creation: “That human beings destroy the biological diversity in God’s creation; that human beings compromise the integrity of the earth and contribute to climate change by robbing the earth of its natural forests or by destroying its wetlands; that human beings pollute the water, the soil, the air: these are all sins”. Because “a crime against nature is a crime against ourselves and a sin against God “.
