May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day
Consideration
Today’s gospel tells us nothing about the depth of faith of the young man Jesus heals. This gospel is about the little faith of the disciples, about those who should heal the sick boy and cannot. Their lack of faith stands in the way of change. But that doesn’t mean that persistent faith can solve everything: The impossible must also always become or will become possible. It is about the attitude we adopt, our mindset. Are we looking in the right direction or are we indifferent spectators?
FIRST READING Deut. 6, 4-13
Thou must love the Lord thy God with all thy heart.
From the book of Deuteronomy
In those days, Moses spoke to the people :
“Listen, Israel,
the Lord is our God, the Lord alone!
“Thou must love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
with all your soul and with all your strength.
“The commandments which I command thee this day,
thou must impress them on thy heart.
“You must speak to your children
over and over again,
when you are at home and when you are out and about,
when you go to bed and when you get up.
“Bind them as a sign on your hand
and as a band on thy forehead.
“Grif them in the doorposts of thy house
and on the gates of thy city.
“When the Lord your God has brought you into the land,
which He has promised your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
promised on oath,
a land with great and beautiful cities
which ye have not built,
with houses full of precious things which ye have not filled,
with hewn troughs of rain which thou hast not cut down,
with vineyards and olive trees which ye have not planted,
and when then ye have food in abundance,
take care not to forget the Lord,
who led thee out of Egypt, that land of bondage.
“Thou must fear the Lord thy God,
worship Him and swear by His name.
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 18(17), 2-3a, 3bc-4, 47, 51ab
Lord, Thee I love, my strength be Thou,
Lord, You I love, my strength art Thou,
my refuge, my fortress, my deliverer.
My God, the rock where I find refuge,
my shield, my preservation, and protection.
When I call on the Lord, He is praised,
then no enemy harms me.
Praised be the Lord, blessed be my rock,
glorified by God my redeemer.
For thou hast given victory to thy king,
thy favors to thy anointed one.
ALLELUIA John 17, 17b, a
Alleluia.
Your word is truth, Lord,
consecrate us to Thee in truth.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mt 17, 14-20
When ye possess faith nothing shall be impossible to you.
From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
In those days,
when Jesus and the disciples had come to the people,
a man came to Him,
threw himself down on his knees before Him and spoke :
“Lord, have mercy on my son,
for he suffers from falling sickness and is in bad shape.
“Often he falls into fire and water.
“I brought him to your disciples
but they were unable to cure him.”
Jesus replied in reply :
“O unbelieving and degenerate generation,
how long must I be with you,
how long will I have to bear with you?
“Bring him here to Me.”
And under the compulsion of Jesus’ word
the evil spirit went out of him ;
at that same moment, the boy was healed.
When the disciples were alone with Jesus
they asked Him :
“Why have we not been able to drive him out ?”
Jesus told them :
“Because of your lack of faith.
“Verily, I say unto you :
When ye possess faith,
though it is small as a mustard seed,
then thou canst say to this mountain :
Move thyself from here to there
and it will move.
“Nothing shall be impossible to thee.

Encyclic of
POPE FRANCIS
On caring for the common home
12. On the other hand, St Francis, in fidelity to Scripture, holds us to recognize nature as a marvelous book in which God speaks to us and transmits to us something of his beauty and goodness, “for from the greatness and beauty of the creatures one perceives by comparison their Creator” (Wis. 13:5), and “from the creation of the world his invisible being is beheld by reason in his works” (Rom. 1:20). That is why he asked that in the monastery a part of the garden always be left uncultivated so that wild herbs could grow there so that all those who would admire them could raise their thoughts to God, the Creator of so much beauty. The world is more than a problem to be solved, it is a joyful mystery that we contemplate with joyful praise.
