Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one except,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Considerations
In today’s reading, Paul describes God’s secret, which enables man to draw an indestructible joy from the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. The secret is that of the cross that brought salvation and reconciliation: a mission that we may continue. Thus, Paul’s suffering in turn will not deter him, but will lead him to encounter the Christ and participate in his suffering. How would not our sufferings too, our way of the cross, the burdens and pain we carry, change if we experienced them as a participation in the passion of Jesus Christ ? When we realise that we are not alone to bear our cross, but that Jesus suffers with us ?

FIRST READING            Col 1:24-2:3

I have become a servant of the church
to proclaim the secret
which was hidden from all ages.

From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of
Colossae

Brothers and sisters,

At this moment I rejoice
that I may suffer for you, and complete in my suffering body
what is still lacking in the trials of the Christ,
for the good of His body which is the Church.
I have become her servant
by virtue of the commission God gave me.
To bring you the word of God in all its fullness :
To proclaim the secret
that was hidden from all ages and all generations
but which has now been revealed to His saints.
To them God wanted to make known
how powerful and how wonderful
this secret is among the heathen nations.
And so it reads :
‘Christ is in you’,
and also :
’the hope of eternal glory’.
Thus we proclaim him
when we all, without distinction
exhort and teach with all the wisdom given to us
in order also to bring all, without distinction,
to perfection in Christ.
For this I exert myself,
contending with his power that works mightily in me.
For you must know
what a hard battle I have to fight
for you and for the faithful in Laodicea
and for so many who have never seen me.
All my toil is aimed at
that they keep their courage
and remain intimately united in love,
and so come
to the full riches of understanding God’s secret
wherein lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

INTERLUDIUM             Ps. 62(61), 6-7, 9

With God lies my salvation and my honour.

With God alone I must rest,
from Him comes all that I hope.
Only He is my rock and my salvation,
my stronghold, He will not let me go.

Abide in Him always,
my people, pour out your hearts to Him;
He is our only refuge.

ALLELUIA            Ps 119(118), 105

Alleluia.
Your word is a lamp to my feet, Lord,
it is a light in my path.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL               Lk. 6, 6-11

One kept an eye on Jesus
Whether He would perform a healing on Sabbath.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke

It happened on a Sabbath,
when Jesus went into the synagogue to teach there,
that a man was present
with a shriveled right hand.
The scribes and Pharisees were keeping an eye on Jesus
whether He would perform a healing on the Sabbath,
to find something they might accuse Him of.
But He knew what they were thinking
and said to the man with the shriveled hand :
“Arise and come into the midst.”
The man stood up and approached.
Thereupon Jesus spoke to the Pharisees :
“I ask you :
is it not lawful on the Sabbath to do good rather than evil ,
to save someone rather than let them perish?”
Then He circulated His gaze over them all and said to the man :
“Hold out your hand.”
He did so, and his hand was healthy again.
Then they were beside themselves with anger
and they discussed among themselves what they could do against Jesus.

Encyclic by

POPE FRANCIS

On caring for the common home

42. Greater investment needs to be made in research aimed at understanding more fully the functioning of ecosystems and adequately analyzing the different variables associated with any significant modification of the environment. Because all creatures are connected, each must be cherished with love and respect, for all of us as living creatures are dependent on one another. Each area is responsible for the care of this family. This will require undertaking a careful inventory of the species which it hosts, with a view to developing programmes and strategies of protection with particular care for safeguarding species heading towards extinction.
