Invitation
May I draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants you to share in the joy
of the gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening his heart
for the healing effect of God’s word.

Opening word
Jesus calls us here.
He invites us to follow him
and see where he lives.
In this celebration, we meet the Lord.
We recognise him in his Word
and in the breaking of bread.
Let us open our hearts
and ask for God’s grace.
FIRST READING 1 Sam. 3, 3b-10.19
Speak, Lord, your servant listens.
From the first book of Samuel
The lamp of God was not yet extinguished
and Samuel was sleeping in the sanctuary of the Lord
where the Ark of God stood.
Then the Lord called out:
“Samuel!”
Samuel answered :
“Here I am.”
He rushed to Eli and said :
“Here I am.
“You called me, didn’t you?”
but Eli answered:
“I didn’t call.
go back to sleep.”
Then the Lord called again:
“Samuel!”
Samuel got up, went to Eli and said :
“Here I am.
“You have called me, haven’t you?”
Eli answered:
“I didn’t call, my boy.
go back to sleep.”
Samuel did not know the Lord yet:
a word of the Lord had never been revealed to him.
And again the Lord called Samuel, this time for the third time.
Samuel got up, went to Eli and said:
“Here I am.
“You have called me, haven’t you?”
Then Eli understood that it was the Lord who called the boy.
And he said to Samuel:
“Go to sleep
and if He calls you, you have to say:
Speak, Lord, your servant listens.”
So Samuel went back to sleep in his usual place.
Then the Lord came to him and called out
as well as the previous times:
“Samuel, Samuel!”
And Samuel answered:
“Speak Lord, your servant listens!”
Samuel grew up;
the Lord was with him and did not leave any of his words unfulfilled.

Yes, God, I come to do your will.
With great confidence I have hoped for the Lord
and he paid attention to me.
He put a new song in my mouth,
a song for our God.
Thou hast not wanted any sacrifice or gift,

Thou ask no burnt sacrifice, no peace offering from me;
so I said, “Yes, I’m coming!”
For in the scroll is written of me
that I will accomplish your will.
My God, that is what I want,
your law is written in my heart.
To many I have made known your justice ,
I didn’t keep my lips closed, Lord, You know.
SECOND READING 1 Cor. 6, 13c-15a.17-20
Your bodies are limbs of Christ.
From the first letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians
of Corinth
Brothers and sisters,
The body is not there for lewdness but for the Lord,
and the Lord for the body.
God has not only raised the Lord from the dead,
He will also raise us up by his power.
Surely you know that your bodies are the limbs of Christ?
But he who unites himself with the Lord,
is one spirit with Him .
Every other sin a human being commits,
goes outside the body,
but the lecherous sins against his own body.
Thou knowest it:
your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit
who dwells in you, whom you have received from God.
Thou art not of thyself.
Thou hast bought and the price has been paid.
Then honor God with your body.
Verse for the gospel John 1, 41.17b

We have found the Messiah called Christ.
Grace and truth came through Him.

GOSPEL John 1, 35-42
They saw where He was and stayed with Him.
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Johannes
At that time Johannes was standing there,
with two of his disciples.
He turned his eye to Jesus who passed by and spoke:
“Behold the Lamb of God.”
The two disciples heard him saying that
and went after Jesus.
Jesus turned around
And when He saw that they were following Him, He asked them:
“What do you desire?”
They said to Him:
“Rabbi,
– translated means this: Master –
where do YOU remain?”
He told them:
“Come along to see it.”
Then they went with Him
and saw where He remained.
That day they stayed with Him.
It was about the tenth hour.
Andreas, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of those two
who had heard the saying of John
and had gone after Jesus.
The first person he met was his brother Simon
to whom he said:
“We have the Messiah
– which translated means: the Anointed One –
found”,
and he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said:
“Thou art Simon, the son of John.
thou shalt be called Kefas,
that means: Rock.”

About caring for the common house
166. Worldwide, the ecological movement has made significant advances, thanks also to the efforts of many organizations of civil society. It is impossible here to mention them all, or to review the history of their contributions. But thanks to their efforts, environmental questions have increasingly found a place on public agendas and encouraged more far-sighted approaches. This notwithstanding, recent World Summits on the environment have not lived up to expectations because, due to lack of political will, they were unable to reach truly meaningful and effective global agreements on the environment.
