Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
Considerations
Timothy and Titus, co-workers and companions of Paul, represent the second generation of believers. They are the link to the gentile Christians. After 14 years, Paul went to Jerusalem a second time. The mission among the Gentiles took off, but aroused great turmoil. Paul took Titus with him to Jerusalem to show them an example of such a pagan Christian. His question was: are we going to continue with it? And they went ahead with it. Lucky for us.
FIRST READING Tit. 1, 1-5:
Paul to Titus, his legitimate child in the common faith.
From the holy apostle Paul’s letter to Titus
From Paul,
servant of God and apostle of Jesus Christ,
to bring God’s elect to the faith
and the knowledge of the true religion,
in the hope of eternal life.
Long ago, God who does not lie promised eternal life
and now, in due time, He has made His word public
in the proclamation entrusted to me
by a commission from God our Saviour . . .
Paul to Titus,
his legitimate child in the common faith :
Grace and peace to you
because of God our Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour !
I left thee in Crete with the intention
that you would complete the organisation of the church
by appointing presbyters in every city
according to the directives I have given you.
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 96(95), 1-2a, 2b-3, 7-8a, 10
Report to the nations God’s glory,
His wondrous deeds to all nations.
Sing to the Lord a new song,
sing to the Lord, all nations.
Sing to the Lord and glorify his Name.
Proclaims his salvation all days,
reports to the nations his glory,
His wondrous deeds to all nations.
Homage the Lord, all tribes and nations,
hail the Lord for his glory and power,
honour the Lord for the glory of his Name.
Say to one another: the Lord reigns!
Unwaveringly He created the earth,
governed the peoples with equity.
ALLELUIA Lk 4:18-19
Alleluia.
The Lord has sent Me
To bring to the poor the Good News,
to make known to prisoners their release.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Lk. 10, 1-9
The harvest is great, but labourers are few.
From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke
In those days the Lord appointed seventy-two disciples
and sent them before him two by two
to all the cities and places
whither He Himself intended to go.
He spoke to them :
“The harvest is great, but labourers are few.
“Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest
send labourers to reap.
“Go then,
but behold, I send you as lambs among wolves.
“Take with you no purse, no travelling bag, no footwear
and greet no one on the way.
“Into whatever house ye enter let your first word be :
Peace to this house !
“Dwell there a peaceable man ,
then your peace shall be upon him;
if not, it shall return upon thee.
“Stay in that house and eat and drink what they offer you ;
For the labourer is worth his wages.
“Do not go from one house to another.
“In every city you enter and are received,
eat what is set before you, heal the sick who are there
and say to them : The kingdom of God is near to you.”

POPE FRANCIS
On caring for the common home
178. The drama of politics focused on immediate results and also supported by consumerist populations makes it necessary to produce short-term growth. Because they respond to electoral interests, governments do not easily venture to irritate the population with measures that may affect consumption levels or jeopardise foreign investment. A short-sighted power structure inhibits the inclusion of a forward-looking environmental agenda within governments’ public agenda. It thus forgets that “time over space”, 1 that we are increasingly fruitful when we care about generating processes rather than occupying positions of power. Political grandeur manifests itself, when in difficult moments one acts on grand principles and thinking of the long-term common good. Political power has great difficulty in incorporating this duty into a project of the nation.
