Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
Consideration
The number of healings is rising – so is the faith growth of Jesus’ disciples, who witness the miracles. Jesus truly overcomes all forces: He is stronger than the elements of nature (the storm on the water), stronger than evil spirits (the healing of the possessed man), than sickness and suffering (the unclean woman), and even over death He has power (the raising of the daughter of Jairus). What we remember is: just as Jesus absolutely wants the woman with bloodshed to come out of anonymity, He also wants us to make ourselves known to Him. That is the core of our faith: That we come into relationship with Jesus Christ.
FIRST READING 2 Sam. 18, 9-10.14b. 24-25a. 30-19,3
Ah if only I had died in your place,
Absalon, my son!
From the second Book of Samuel
In those days Absalom was
was found by the servants of David.
For when the mule on which Absalom was riding
passed under a great oak tree,
Absalom’s head became trapped between the branches,
and as his mule walked on
he found himself suspended between heaven and earth.
A soldier saw this and reported it to Joab :
“I have found Absalom! He is hanging in an oak tree.”
Joab took three sticks and hit Absalom with them,
who was still hanging alive in the middle of the oak tree,
against his chest.
David was between the two gatehouses.
A guard climbed onto the roof of the gatehouse,
on top of the wall,
and as he looked around,
he saw someone coming running very alone.
The guard had it reported to the king, who said :
“Wait here aside.”
The messenger Achimaäs did so.
Now a second messenger, a Kusite also arrived. He said :
“I have good news for my lord the king.
“The Lord has given you justice
towards all those who had rebelled against you.”
But the king asked the Kusite :
“Is all well with the boy, with Absalom?”
Then the Kusite said :
“It was to be wished
that it should be all the enemies of my lord the king,
all those who plot evil against you,
fared the same way
as it happened to that young man.”
Deeply shocked, the king retreated
into the upper chamber of the gatehouse ;
weeping, he walked up and down,
while he kept calling out :
“My son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom!
“Ah if only I had died in your place,
Absalom, my son, my son !”
To Joab was reported :
“The king weeps and grieves over Absalom”.
And to all who heard
that the king grieved for his son,
the victory frenzy was at once mourning.
INTERMEDIUM Ps. 86(85), 1-2, 3-4, 5-6
Hear my prayer, Lord, and will hear me.
Hear my prayer, Lord, and will hear me,
I am unhappy and poor.
Protect me, for You I am devoted,
Take care of Your servant, he counts on You.
My God be Thou, have mercy on me,
I call upon Thee continually.
Delight the heart of Your servant, Lord,
I turn to Thee with confidence.
For Thou art good and merciful, Lord,
merciful to all who call upon Thee.
Listen then, Lord, to my prayer,
heed my pleading voice.
ALLELUIA John 6, 64b, 69b
Alleluia.
Your words, Lord, are spirit and life ;
Your words are words of eternal life.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mk. 5, 21-43
Girl, I say to you, stand up.
From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Mark
At that time, when Jesus had crossed again by boat,
many people flocked to Him.
While He was on the shore of the lake ,
there came a certain Jairus, the ruler of the synagogue.
When he saw Jesus, he fell at His feet
and begged Him urgently:
“My little daughter may die at any moment,
come and lay your hands on her
that she may be healed and live.”
Jesus went with Him.
A dense crowd accompanied Him, pressing in from all sides.
Among them was a woman who had been suffering from haemorrhage for 12 years.
She had had much to endure from a host of doctors
and spent her entire fortune,
but to no avail;
on the contrary, things had got worse with her.
Because she had heard about Jesus ,
she pressed forward in the crowd
and touched his cloak.
For she said to herself:
“If I can only touch his clothes ,
I will be healed.”
Immediately the bleeding stopped
and she became aware from her body
that she was cured of her ailment.
At the same moment, Jesus was aware
that a power had gone out from Him;
He turned around in the midst of the crowd and asked:
“Who touched my clothes?”
His disciples said to Him:
“Thou seest the crowd pressing in from all sides, and Thou askest:
Who touched Me?”
But He let His gaze wander around to see who had done so.
Knowing what had happened to her,
the woman came and threw herself down before Him, anxious and trembling
and confessed to Him the whole truth.
Then Jesus spoke to her:
“Daughter, your faith has healed you.
“Go in peace and be delivered from your affliction.”
He had not yet spoken or one came
from the house of the superior of the synagogue with the message:
“Your daughter has died.
“Wherefore wouldst thou trouble the Master any longer?”
Jesus caught what was being reported
and said to the superior of the synagogue:
“Do not be afraid but keep believing.”
He let no one go with him
except Peter, James and John, the brother of James.
When they arrived at the house of the superior ,
He saw the mourning mass
of people weeping loudly and lamenting.
He went in and said to them:
“Why this mourning and weeping?
“The child has not died but is sleeping.”
Yet they laughed at Him.
But Jesus sent them all out and went
with His companions and the child’s father and mother
into the room where the child lay.
He took the child’s hand and said to her:
“Talita koemi”;
which translated means:
Girl, get up.
Immediately the girl got up and walked around
for it was twelve years old.
And they stood dumbfounded.
He emphatically imposed on them
that no one was to find out, and added
That they should feed her.

Dialogue and transparency in decision-making processes

Anticipating the environmental impact of corporate and project initiatives requires political processes that are transparent and subject to dialogue, while corruption that hides the real environmental impact in exchange for favours often leads to ambiguous agreements that escape the duty to inform and in-depth debate.
