Easter Sunday – Resurrection of the Lord

Easter is the most important Christian feast. Christians celebrate
from their faith that Jesus rose from the dead

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Opening word

‘Christ is risen. Yes, truly risen, alleluia’
In the first centuries
the sisters and brothers greeted each other
on Easter with these words.
Today, we too greet each other in this way,
for our lives have been completely changed in Him, the Whole Other.
The Lord died and rose to give us,
freed of sins, to give us new life.
Let us praise and thank Him
and pray for His mercy.

FIRST READING               Acts. 10, 34a.37-43

We ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead.

From the Acts of the Apostles

At that time Peter took the floor and spoke:

“Thou knowest what happened all over Judea ;
how Jesus of Nazareth began his action in Galilee
after the baptism which John preached,
and how God anointed Him
with the Holy Spirit and with power.
“He went about beneficently
and healed all
who were under the compulsion of the devil ,
for God was with Him.

“And we bear witness to all
that He did in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem.
“Him they struck on the cross and murdered.
“However, God raised Him up on the third day
and made Him appear,
not to all the people
but to the witnesses chosen beforehand by God,
to us who ate and drank with Him
after He had risen from the dead.

“He commissioned us to preach to the people ,
and to testify
That He is the judge appointed by God
over the living and the dead.
“Of Him all the prophets bear witness,
that everyone who believes in Him
obtains forgiveness of sins through His Name.”

Responsorial                 Ps 118(117), 1-2, 16ab-17, 22-23

Refrain
This is the day the Lord has made.
We will celebrate it in joy.

or
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Bring thanks to the Lord, for He is merciful,
endless is his mercy!
Repeat it, tribes of Israel:
Endless is His mercy!

The Lord intervened with a powerful hand,
the hand of the Lord has set me up.
I will not die but live on
and all around narrate the work of the Lord.

The stone which the builders despised ,
that has become the cornerstone.
It is the Lord who has done this,
a miracle before our eyes.

SECOND READING                     Col. 3, 1-4

Seek what is above, where Christ sits.

From the holy apostle Paul’s letter to the Christians of
Colossae

Brothers and sisters,

If ye have been raised to life with Christ,
seek what is above,
where Christ sits at the right hand of God.
Seek the heavenly, not the earthly.
For thou hast died
and thy life is now hid with Christ in God.
Christ is thy life,
and when He appears,
you too will appear with Him in glory.

Sequence

Let us praise the Lamb of Easter,
Honour the Lamb of God with sacrifices.
Yes the Lamb saves the sheep,
Christ by his innocence
Us poor sinners to the Father.
Death and life, O miracle,
must fight together.
Who died, He lives, He is
our king.
Tell us, Mary,
what is it that thou hast seen?
The tomb of Christ that was empty,
the glory of Him who is risen,
angels as witnesses,
the sweatcloth and the shroud.
My hope, my Christ alive!
Behold He goes before you to Galilee.
Truly Christ is risen: rose from the dead;
O King, our Hero, give us peace.

Verse for the Gospel                1 Cor. 5, 7b-8a

Alleluia.
Our Paschal Lamb has been slaughtered: Christ Himself.
We must celebrate our feast in the Lord.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                      John 20, 1-9

For he had to rise from the dead.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came
early in the morning – it was dark – came to the tomb
and saw that the stone of the tomb had been rolled away.
She ran quickly to Simon Peter
and to the other, the disciple loved by Jesus,
and said to them:
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb
and we do not know where they have put Him.”

Thereupon Peter and the other disciple made their way to the tomb.
They walked on together quickly,
but the other disciple rushed ahead of Peter
and arrived at the tomb first.
Bending down he saw the bandages lying there
but he did not enter.

Simon Peter, who followed him, also came to the tomb
and did enter.
He saw that the bandages were there,
but that the sweatcloth that had covered his head
was not lying with the bandages,
but somewhere rolled up separately in another place.
Then the other disciple too went
who had arrived at the tomb first, went in;
he saw and believed
for they had not yet understood
what was written,
namely, that He had to rise from the dead.

Laudato Si

Encyclic by

POPE FRANCIS

On the care of the common home

242. Along with her, the figure of St Joseph emerges in the holy family of Nazareth. He cared for and protected Mary and Jesus with his work and his generous presence. and he freed them from the violence of the unrighteous by taking them to Egypt. In the Gospel, he appears as a righteous, hard-working, strong man. But from his figure also emanates a great tenderness, not peculiar to those who are weak, but truly strong, mindful of the reality to love and humbly serve. This is why he has been proclaimed guardian of the universal Church. He too can teach us to care, he can motivate us to work with generosity and tenderness to protect this world that God has entrusted to us.
