Fourth Sunday of Easter

Boek met kaars 40

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Opening word
Jesus describes his communion with the disciples.
For this he uses the image of a shepherd and his flock.
A good shepherd loves his sheep dearly,
he calls them and sets out with them.
Jesus is the Shepherd par excellence,
his love for us is infinite.
Today, on vocations Sunday,
we pray for shepherds, men and women,
who, like Jesus, care for the sheep
entrusted to them.
Jesus, the Good Shepherd, calls each of us
to give our lives for others in his wake.

FIRST READING                     Acts 4, 8-12

In no one else is salvation to be found.

From the Acts of the Apostles

At that time Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, spoke:

“Authorities of the people and elders!
“If we are called to account today
for a benefit rendered to a defective person
by which this one is healed ,
then be it known to you all and to all the people of Israel
that through the name of Jesus Christ,
the Nazarene whom you crucified
but whom God raised from the dead,
– that through that Name this man is standing here healthy before you.

“He is the stone
which ye builders thought worth nothing
and yet became the cornerstone.
“With no one else, therefore, is salvation to be found
and no other Name under heaven
has been given to men
in which we are to be saved.”

RESPONSORIAL           Ps 118(117), 1.8.9,21-23, 26 and 28-29

Refrain
The stone which the builders despised ,
that has become the cornerstone.

Bring thanks to the Lord, for He is merciful,
endless is his mercy!
For better is it to go to the Lord,
than to trust in any man;
And better is it to go to the Lord,
Than to trust in princes.

I thank Thee that Thou hast heard me
And that Thou hast saved me.
The stone which the builders despised ,
that has become the cornerstone.
It is the Lord who has done this,
a miracle before our eyes.

Blessed who comes in the name of the Lord;
we bless thee from the house of the Lord;
My God be Thou and I thank Thee,
my God, I proclaim thy glory.
Bring thanks to the Lord, for He is merciful,
endless is His mercy.

SECOND READING                     1 John 3, 1-2

We will see God as He is.

From the first letter of the holy apostle John

Friends,

How great is the love the Father has shown us!
We are called children of God
and we are.
The world does not understand us
and it does not know us
because it has not recognised Him.

Friends,
already now we are children of God
and what we shall be has not yet been revealed;
but we know
that when it is revealed ,
we will be like Him
because we shall see Him as He is.

Verse for the gospel           John 10, 14

Alleluia.
I am the good Shepherd, says the Lord;
I know mine, and mine know Me.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                          Jn 10, 11-18

The good Shepherd gives his life for his sheep.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

At that time, Jesus spoke to his disciples:

“I am the good Shepherd.
“The good Shepherd gives his life for his sheep.
But the hireling who is not a shepherd
and does not own the sheep,
sees the wolf coming,
abandons the sheep and flees;
the wolf robs them and scatters them.
“He is therefore only a mercenary
and has no heart for the sheep.

“I am the good Shepherd.
“I know Mine and Mine know Me,
as the Father knows Me and I know the Father.
“I give my life for the sheep.
“I have other sheep
who are not from this sheepfold.
“These too I must lead
and they will listen to My voice
and it will become: one flock, one shepherd.

“For this reason the Father loves Me,
because I give My life
to take it back later.
“No one takes it away from Me
but I give it of Myself.
“Power I have to give it:
that is the mission I have received from My Father.”

APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION LAUDATE DEUM

FROM THE HOLY FATHER
POPE FRANCISCUS

TO ALL PEOPLE
OF GOOD WILL

Damages and risks
15. Some consequences of the climate crisis are already irreversible for at least several hundred years, such as the rise in global ocean temperatures, their acidification and the decline in oxygen. Ocean waters have thermal inertia and it takes centuries for temperature and salinity to normalise, affecting the survival of many species. This is one of the many signs that the other creatures of this world are no longer our companions, but have instead become our victims.
