‘Unfathomable depth, eternal God, Thou art a fire that burns always and does not run out. Thou dost consume with Thy warmth every self-love of the soul. Thou art the fire that takes away every cold, and Thou enlightenest the spirits with Thy light, with that light by which Thou hast made me know Thy truth. Lord, You call me to come to You, and I come to You, certainly not on account of my merits, but only thanks to Your mercy.
(Catherine of Siena, Dialogue on Divine Providence)
FIRST READING 1 Jn 1:5-2:2
Christ’s blood cleanses us from every sin.
From the first letter of the holy apostle John
Friends,
This is the message we have heard from Christ
and pass on to you :
God is light ,
and there is no trace of darkness in Him.
If we claim to be partakers of His life
while our ways are dark
we lie in word and deed.
But if we walk in the light ,
– as He Himself is in the light –
then we share in each other’s life,
while the blood of His Son Jesus cleanses us from every sin.
If we claim to be without sin
we deceive ourselves
and the truth does not dwell in us.
If we confess our sins,
He is so faithful and merciful
that He forgives our sins
and cleanses us from all evil.
But if we say that we have committed no sin
we make Him a liar ;
then His word does not dwell in us.
Children,
I write to you
with the intention that ye should not sin.
But even if someone were to sin :
We have an advocate with the Father,
Jesus Christ,
who is totally sinless,
who makes up for all our sins
and not only ours but those of the whole world.
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 103(102), 1-2, 3-4, 8-9, 13-14, 17-18a
Glorify, my soul, the Lord.
Glorify, my soul, the Lord,
His holy Name from the depths of your being!
Glorify, my soul, the Lord,
forget not his benefits !
It is He who forgives you your debts,
who heals thee from thy afflictions.
It is He who saves thee from destruction,
who surrounds you with his favour and mercy.
The Lord is merciful and benevolent,
longsuffering and kind.
He does not constantly keep reproaching,
He is not forever wroth.
As much as a father loves his children ,
so much does the Lord love His servants.
Surely He knows what He made man from,
He remembers that we are but dust.
But God’s mercy endures forever and ever,
righteous is He to generation after generation,
for all who faithfully keep His covenant.
GOSPEL Mt 11:25-30
These things hast Thou hidden from the wise and prudent,
but revealed to children.
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
At that time Jesus spoke :
“I praise Thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
because Thou hast hidden these things
From the wise and prudent ,
but have revealed them to children.
“Yes, Father, so it has pleased Thee.
“All things have been given to Me by My Father.
“No one knows the Son unless the Father,
and no one knows the Father unless the Son
and he to whom the Son will reveal Him.
“Come to Me all
who are exhausted and burdened,
and I will give you rest and relief.
“Take My yoke on your shoulders and learn from Me :
I am meek and lowly in heart;
and ye shall find rest for your souls,
for My yoke is gentle and My burden is light.”

TO ALL PEOPLE
OF GOOD WILL
23. It is frightening to realise that the vast possibilities of technology have been given
to “those who have the knowledge and especially the economic means to use them ,
have been given impressive dominance over all of humanity and the entire world.
Never before has humanity had such power over itself, but nothing guarantees that this
power will be used wisely, especially considering how this power is currently
is being used… In whose hands is all this power, or will it eventually end up?
It is extremely risky that it will end up in the hands of a small part of humanity”.
