Philip was one of the first disciples of Jesus, as was James the Lesser, son of Alphaeus.
According to tradition, they were martyred in 62 and 80 respectively.
Invitation
May I draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
of the gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
Consideration
Philip’s question, “Lord, show us the Father, that is enough for us” can give the impression of being demanding and overconfident. But at the same time, it expresses a certain confidence in Jesus. In his answer, Jesus “reveals” himself as the image of the Father: in his speaking and acting, the Love of God is made visible. He also makes his disciples partakers of this Love. At the end of the passage, reference is already made to Jesus’ priestly role: the disciples will continue to learn to pray in Jesus’ name, trusting that through his death and resurrection on the cross he has opened the way to the Father.
FIRST READING Cor. 15, 1-8
The Lord appeared to James and then to all the apostles.
From the holy apostle Paul’s first letter to the Christians in Corinth
My brothers and sisters,
I call your attention to the gospel I have preached to you,
which you have received,
upon which you are founded
and by which you have also been saved:
With what words have I proclaimed it to you?
I assume you have memorised them;
Otherwise, you would have accepted faith without question.
In the first place, therefore, I have passed on to you
what I myself received as tradition,
namely, that Christ died for our sins,
according to the Scriptures
and that he was buried
and that he rose on the third day,
according to the scriptures,
and that He appeared to Cephas and then to the Twelve.
After that He appeared
to more than five hundred brethren at once,
most of whom are still alive,
though some had died.
Then He appeared to James,
then to all the apostles.
And finally, he also appeared to me,
the evildoer.
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 19(18), 2-3, 4-5
His call echoes over the whole earth.
The heavens proclaim the glory of God,
the firmament shows us the work of his hands.
The day calls him to the next day
the night sends him to the night.
No word is uttered, no voice echoes,
no sound is heard;
yet his call echoes over the whole earth,
his message penetrates to the ends of the earth.
HALLELUJAH John 14:6b and 9c
Alleluia.
I am the way, the truth and the life
says the Lord;
Whoever sees Me, Philip, sees the Father.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL John 14, 6-14
Have I been with you for so long and yet you do not know Me?
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
“I am the way, the truth and the life.
“No one comes to the Father but through me.
“If you would know me
you would also know my Father.
“Now you know him and see him.
Hearing this, Philip said:
“Lord, show us the Father;
That is enough for us.
And Jesus said again:
“I have been with you for so long
and you still don’t know Me, Philip?
“Whoever sees Me, sees the Father.
“Then how can you say :
Show us the Father.
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in Me?
“The words I say to you, I do not speak of Myself,
but it is the Father who,
abides in Me,
accomplishes His work.
“Believe Me:
I am in the Father and the Father is in Me.
“Or believe it by works.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you :
Whoever believes in Me
“Verily, verily, I say unto you : He that believeth in Me shall himself do the works that I do.
“And greater works than these shall he do
For I go to the Father.
“And whatever you ask in My Name, I will do it,
I will do it
So that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
“If you ask anything in My Name, I will do it.
I will do it.

27. A healthy ecology is therefore also the result of the interaction between humans and the environment
as it occurs in indigenous cultures and has taken place for centuries in different parts of the world of the earth. Human groups have often “created” an environment by reshaping it in some way without destroying or endangering it. The big contemporary problem is that the technocratic paradigm has destroyed this healthy and harmonious relationship. Anyway, the indispensable need to transcend that paradigm, which is so damaging and destructive, will not be found in a denial of man, but in the interaction of natural systems “with social systems’.”
