Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
Consideration
In this gospel, the disciples’ false self-confidence is exposed – perhaps ours too? Their love and faith still leave much to be desired. The gospel’s readers and we too can learn from it. There is a clear allusion to their flight, and to their abandoning Jesus. Between the lines, we also read that they will be gathered again after that dark hour. Have good courage. I have overcome the world. This exhortation echoes through all the ages.
First Reading Acts 19:1-8
Did ye receive the Holy Spirit when ye accepted faith?
From the Acts of the Apostles
While Apóllos was in Corinth
Paul came
after his journey through the interior
in Ephesus.
There he met some disciples
to whom he asked:
“Did ye receive the Holy Spirit
when ye accepted faith?”
They replied:
“We have not even heard
that there is a Holy Spirit.”
Then he said:
“Then how were you baptised?”
They replied:
“With the baptism of John.”
Paul resumed:
“John administered a baptism in token of conversion ,
but he told the people
that they should believe in Who came after him,
which is Jesus.”
When they had heard this
they allowed themselves to be baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus.
After Paul had laid hands on them
the Holy Spirit came upon them;
they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
Altogether they were about 12 men.
He went to the synagogue,
where he acted boldly for three months
and taught them by his discourses
about the Kingdom of God
sought to convince them.
Interludium Ps. 68(67), 2-3, 4-5ac, 6-7ab
Sing now to God, kingdoms of the earth.
Alleluia.
When God raises up the enemy dashes apart,
Where He shows Himself, those who hate Him flee.
As smoke blows away, so sinners disappear,
As wax before the fire, so they perish before God.
But all the righteous rejoice for joy
and stand unconcerned before the face of God.
So sing to God, glorify His Name,
He is the Lord, rejoice to Him!
To orphans a father, to widows support
God is in His holy dwelling.
For the neglected He gives a home of their own,
prisoners freedom and prosperity.
Alleluia Jn 14:26
Alleluia.
The Holy Spirit will teach you everything
and will remind you of everything
what I have said to you.
Alleluia.
Gospel Jn 16:29-33
Have good courage : I have overcome the world.
From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John
At that time the disciples said to Jesus:
“Look, now Thou art speaking plainly and using no image.
Now we see that Thou knowest everything.
It is not necessary for Thee that anyone should question Thee.
We therefore believe that Thou art from God.”
Jesus answered them:
“Believest thou now?
Behold, there cometh an hour, yea it is already here,
that thou wilt be scattered to all sides and leave Me alone.
Yet I am not alone because the Father is with Me.
This I have told you, that ye may possess peace in Me.
It is true that in the world ye live in tribulation,
but have courage:
I have overcome the world.”

Reconfiguring multilateralism
37.The current challenge seems to be not so much to save the old multilateralism, but to
reconfigure and recreate it, taking into account the new situation in the
world. I invite you to recognise that “many groups and organisations within
civil society are helping to address the shortcomings of the international community,
its lack of coordination in complex situations, and its lack of attention to
fundamental human rights” to compensate. [30] The Ottawa process against the use
production and manufacture of anti-personnel mines, for example, is an example that
shows how civil society and its organisations are capable of creating an effective
dynamics that the United Nations is incapable of creating. In this way, the
subsidiarity principle also applies to the global-local relationship.
