Friday – Sacred Heart of Jesus

H. Heart of Jesus, source of divine life.

Invitation

May I draw your attention to
The daily reading of the Gospel

This invitation wishes to convey the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s Word.

Available every day

Consideration
Even when his love is misunderstood, God remains faithful. For even after his death, Jesus remains the source of divine life: blood and water flow from his side. In the sacraments of Baptism (water) and Eucharist (blood), this flow of life reaches us: Jesus wants to take up residence in our hearts to make them like his own. To remain rooted in love: this is also Paul’s prayer. Let us look at the Crucified One with gratitude. For for us, too, the day is coming when you will draw water from the well of salvation with a pure heart (Isa 12:3).

FIRST READING             Hos. 11, 1.3-4.8c-9

My heart turns

From the prophet Hosea

Thus speaks the Lord
“While Israel was still young, I loved him
And out of Egypt I called my son.
“It is I
who taught Ephraim to walk
who took him by the arms.
“Yet he did not want to know
That it was I who kept him.
“With gentle reins I bound him,
with reins of love.
“I was to him as those
who lift the yoke when it presses against the jaws.
“I held out his food to him.

“My heart turned over,
all my insides soften.
“No, I will certainly not cool my burning anger,
“I will not destroy Ephraim again,
for I am God, I am not man,
I am the Holy One in the midst of you.
“I will not let my wrath be carried away.”

Responsorial Psalm          Isa 12:2-3, 4bcd, 5-6

Refrain
You will draw water with joy
From the springs of salvation.

Yes, He is the God of my salvation,
He gives me confidence, I need not fear;
The Lord is my strength, Him I praise,
He has brought me salvation.
Rejoicing you will draw water
From the springs of salvation.

Glorify the Lord, call on His name;
Make His deeds known to the nations,
Remember how exalted His name is.

Praise the Lord for His matchless deeds,
Let all the earth know.
Be glad and rejoice, ye who dwell in Zion,
for the Holy One of Israel is great in your midst.

SECOND READING           Ephesians 3:8-12,14-19

The love of Christ that surpasses knowledge.

From the holy apostle Paul’s letter to the Christians of
Ephesus

Brothers and sisters,

to me, the least of all the saints,
grace has been given to me,
to the Gentiles
the unfathomable riches of Christ
the fulfilment of the secret.
He was from eternity hidden in God,
the Creator of the universe,
so that through the Church
now to the dominions and powers in the heavens
the manifold wisdom of God would be made known.
That was His eternal purpose
which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.
In Him we have,
through faith in Him,
free access to God.

Therefore I bow my knees before the Father
Who appoints all fatherhood in heaven and on earth:
May He give you in His immeasurable glory
That your innermost being may be powerfully strengthened by His Spirit
that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith
and that you remain rooted and grounded in love.
May you be able to understand with all the saints
what is the breadth, length, height and depth
and know the love of Christ
which surpasses all knowledge.
May you reach the fullness that is the fullness of God Himself.

Gospel verse          1 John 4:10b

Alleluia.
God has loved us
and sent his Son
as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                            Jn 19:31-37

They pierced his side and immediately blood and water came out.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

Because it was the day of preparation
and the Jews did not want
that the bodies should remain on the cross on the Sabbath day
-it was, moreover, a great Sabbath
they asked Pilate for permission
to break the legs of the crucified and take them away.
Then the soldiers came
and beat
those crucified with Him ,
and broke their legs.
But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs,
they didn’t break His legs,
but one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear;
Immediately blood and water came out.

The one who saw it testifies to this;
his testimony is true
and he knows that he speaks the truth
so that you also believe.
This happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled:
“Of his bones nothing shall be broken”,
while another scripture says:
“They shall behold Him whom they have pierced”.

APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION LAUDATE DEUM

OF THE HOLY FATHER
PAUS FRANCIS

TO ALL PEOPLE
OF GOOD WILL

In the light of faith
62. The Bible tells us, “God saw everything He had made, and it was very good” (Genesis 1:31).
(Genesis 1:31). To Him belongs “the earth with everything on it” (Deuteronomy 10:14).
This is why He tells us that “the earth will not be sold for eternity, for the earth is mine, you are mine” (Deuteronomy 10:14).
The land is mine, you are strangers and tenants of mine” (Lev 25:23). Therefore
“responsibility for God’s land means that people, endowed with intelligence, must understand the laws of nature and the delicate balance that
natural laws and the delicate balance that exists between the creatures of this world and those of the earth.
which they must respect”.
