Consideration
We endure the difficulties we face in communion with Christ. He too was not spared suffering. Christ is a source of comfort for us. After all, in him God shows how much he is on the side of the vulnerable. Jesus also proclaims this in the Beatitudes: true and deepest comfort comes from God. Whoever trusts in him may be called blessed. In turn, he can care for his neighbour as God cares for people: He makes sure your foot does not stumble, He does not sleep, He watches over you.
FIRST READING 1 Kings 17, 1-6
Elijah in the service of the Lord, the God of Israel.
From the first book of Kings
In those days, Elijah, the Tishbite of Gilead, said to Ahab:
“Behold, the Lord, the God of Israel, lives ,
in whose service I stand:
Neither dew nor rain shall come in the years to come
than by my word.
And the word of the Lord came to Elijah:
“Go away from here, go to the east
and hide in the valley of Kerith
which flows into the Jordan River.
“From the brook you can drink, and I have instructed the ravens to feed you there .
And the ravens I have ordered to feed you there.
Elijah did as the LORD had told him
and went to dwell in the valley of Kerit
which flows into the river Jordan.
The ravens brought him morning and evening
bread and meat,
and he drank from the brook.

When Jesus saw the crowd, He went up the mountain.
And when He had come down, His disciples joined Him.
He spoke to them and taught them as follows:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit ,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are those who mourn
for they shall be comforted.
“Blessed are the meek
for they shall possess the earth.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
