Invitation

May I draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel

The purpose of this invitation is to share the joy of the Gospel with you.
Everyone, without exception
can experience this joy by opening his or her heart to the healing
effect of the Word of God.

Available every day

CONSIDERATION
A prophet speaks because he must speak on behalf of God. This is the solid foundation on which he stands, and it is the legitimisation of his speaking as a prophet: I cannot do otherwise, God compels me. When do we stand up for others and speak on behalf of God? Jesus teaches us that we need not be afraid. We can trust God, no matter how dire the situation. Do I dare?

FIRST READING                Amos 3:1-8; 4:11-12
God, the Lord, has spoken: who would not prophesy?

From the prophet Amos

Hear the word
that the Lord speaks
To you, O children of Israel
to the whole generation
Whom He has brought out of Egypt:
“You alone have I chosen
out of all the generations of the earth;
Therefore I also call you to account
For all your iniquities!
“Do two people leave together
Without having met?
“Does a lion roar in the forest
without prey?
“Or does a lion cub growl in its den
Without having obtained anything?
“Or shoots a bird to the clicker on the ground
Without a decoy?
“Or does the snapper rise from the ground
Without grabbing anything?
“Is the trumpet blown in a city
Without its inhabitants trembling?
“Does disaster ever happen in a city
Without the Lord having anything to do with it?
“Similarly, does the Lord God never do anything without revealing His decree
without revealing His decree
to His servants, the prophets.
“The lion roared:
Who would not fear?
“God the Lord spoke,
Who would not prophesy?”

And further, the Lord speaks:
“I have turned you upside down,
as great as Sodom and Gomorrah;
Already art thou become a piece of charred wood
which is torn out of the fire ,
but ye have not repented before Me.
“Therefore will I so do with thee, O Israel.
“And because I will do so with you ,
Israel, must prepare yourself
to appear before your God.

INTERLUDIUM              Ps. 5, 5-6, 7, 8

Lead me, O Lord, in the paths of safety.

You hear my voice early in the morning,
You hear my voice early in the morning, my hope and my desire.
Surely You are not a God who endures injustice,
With You no evildoer can dwell.

No sinner can look into Thy eyes,
Thou lovest those who do injustice.
Thou destroys those who speak lies,
Thou lovest bloodlust and cruelty.

But I, because of Thy rich mercy,
may I enter Thy house.
I bow before Thy temple
In reverence to Thee, my Lord.

Alleluia               Ps. 130(129), 5

Alleluia.
In the Lord I put my hope,
on his word I trust.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                              Mt 8, 23-27

Jesus spoke an urgent word to the winds and the sea
to the winds and the sea, and the waters became still.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew

As Jesus got into the boat, his disciples followed him.
Suddenly the sea became wild
so that the waves beat against the boat;
However, he was asleep.
They came to him
and woke him up, saying:
“Lord, save us, for we are perishing!”.
He spoke to them:
“Why are you afraid, little believers?”.
Then he stood up,
he addressed the winds and the sea with an urgent word,
and the waters became still.
The people were amazed and said:
“What kind of person is that ,
that even the winds and the sea obey him”?
