Invitation
May I draw your attention to
the daily Gospel reading?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
of the gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day
Consideration
In Scripture, a wedding is a messianic image. A wedding feast is refreshing, rejuvenating and renewing. It is full of future. It is a new beginning. This is also what the Lord wants to achieve with his people. Always starting anew, receiving joy, giving joy. This is what we can participate in.
FIRST READING Am. 9, 11-15
I will restore my people Israel
and plant them in their own land.
From the prophet Amos
Thus speaks the Lord
“On that day I will restore the ruined hut of David,
I will close his tears,
I will raise up what has been cast down
and I will build it up again as before.
“What remains of Edom
and of all the nations over which My Name has been proclaimed ,
shall they then take possession of”.
– so says the word of the Lord of God, who accomplishes this.
“Behold, the days are coming – says the Lord – that the ploughman will follow the farmer.
That the ploughman will follow closely the reaper
and the grape gatherer the sower,
when the mountains shall flow with the new wine
and all the hills shall drip with it.
“Then I will restore my people Israel
restored to their ancient state,
then they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them again,
then they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine,
then they will plant orchards and eat their fruit.
“I will plant them in their own land
and they shall no longer be uprooted
from the land I have given them.
Thus speaks the Lord your God.
INTERLUDIUM Ps 85(84), 9, 11-12, 13-14
I will listen to what God says to me
a word of reconciliation.
I will hear what God says to me,
surely a word of reconciliation.
A word for his people, for all who serve him,
for all who open their hearts to him.
When faithfulness and mercy meet
When peace and justice embrace each other;
then faithfulness will spring from the earth
and justice will descend from heaven.
Then the Lord will give us his blessing
And our land will bring forth rich fruit.
Then through Him shall justice go forth
And prosperity will follow in His footsteps.
HALLELUYA Ps. 19(18), 9
Alleluia.
Your precepts, O Lord, are trustworthy,
they make the ignorant wise.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mt 9, 14-17
Surely the friends of the bridegroom cannot be grieved
as long as the bridegroom is with them?
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
One day
John’s disciples came to Jesus and asked Him:
“Why do we and the Pharisees fast ,
and not your disciples.
Jesus spoke to them:
“The friends of the bridegroom
cannot grieve
as long as the bridegroom is with them?
“The days will come
when the bridegroom will be taken away from them;
Then they will fast.
“No one wears for an old garment
An unfolded piece of cloth that has not been mended;
for the put-in piece pulls at the garment
And multiplies the tearing.
“Nor do they put young wine into old handkerchiefs ,
lest the sacks should burst,
the wine runs out and the sacks are lost.
“But young wine is put into new sacks ;
then both are preserved.
