Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
Consideration
Continuing to believe means when something irrevocable happens, still being connected to God. We see this when Jesus took the girl’s hand. The girl stood up immediately. We too are invited to remain ‘in the Covenant with God’.
FIRST READING Hos. 2, 16.17b-18.21-22
I take you as my bride, forever.
From the Prophet Hosea
Thus speaks the Lord :
“My unfaithful bride ,
soon I will draw her to Me again,
I will take her to the desert
and speak to her heart.
“There she will become willing again ,
as in the days of her youth
when she went up from Egypt.
“On that day – so says the Lord’s divine word –
thou shalt cry unto Me: My husband!
“Never then will ye cry out to Me : My Baal !
“I will take thee as my bride forever,
as my bride in law and justice,
in goodness and mercy,
as my bride, in indissoluble faithfulness:
then thou shalt know the Lord.”
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 145(144), 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9
The Lord is full of love and compassion.
You I want to praise, Lord, every day,
glorifying your Name forever.
The Lord is great and worthy of all praise,
His greatness is unfathomable.
Your deeds are recounted from generation to generation,
your power is proclaimed everywhere.
People speak of your splendour and majesty,
spreads the fame of your miracles.
Your terrifying power is mentioned,
your greatness praised by all.
They sing the praises of your great mildness
and rejoice for your justice.
The Lord is full of love and compassion,
longsuffering and most gracious.
The Lord is concerned for every man,
merciful to all that He made.
ALLELUIA Ps. 25(24), 4c, 5a
Alleluia.
Teach me to know your paths, Lord ;
Lead me according to your word.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mt 9, 18-26
My daughter has just died :
but come and she shall be made alive again.
From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
Once, while Jesus was speaking to the crowd
a superior came to Him,
threw himself down before Him and said :
“My daughter has just died :
but come and lay your hands on her
then she will become alive again”
Jesus got up and went with him,
accompanied by His disciples.
Suddenly a woman approached Him from behind
who had been suffering from haemorrhages for 12 years,
and touched the hem of His cloak.
For she said to herself :
“If I can only touch His mantle
will I be healed.”
But Jesus turned around,
and when He saw her He spoke :
“Have good courage daughter ,
your faith has healed you.”
And from then on, the woman was healthy.
When Jesus came into the house of the superior
and saw the flute players and the people making a noise
He spoke:
“Go away!
for the girl has not died but sleeps.”
Yet they laughed at Him.
When all those people had been put out,
He drew near,
took her hand
and the girl stood up.
The story of this spread throughout that region.
